THE FILMS SPINE Over the past five years, a great number of Saudis vloggers, film-makers, and photographers have overwide Internet sensation without support. Therefore, the Media Spine aims to form a home-based for freelancer young film-makers. Located in a very strategic area which connect the old Jeddah with the current and future development, lays the 15,800 square meter site. The Media Spine is aiming to bring the young film makers together to collaborate and share ideas. The hub will fulfill their need through having shooting studios, open spaces, visual connected offices, theatre, retails, art sculptures, playful parks, and a watch tower. The purpose of the project is to introduce a new attitude toward working places through reorienting the users to create, explore, and play.

CULTURAL VILLAGE At the outset of the design process we drew on five key principles as design drivers in which they are to create a vibrant cultural and entertainment focal point for the entire community, to create a public space to spend time, to establish a world class cultural destination, and a scheme that is contemporary yet contextual, as well as an urban definition that is environmentally and economically sustainable.

03 MEDIA FIELDS The project creates series of public spaces that are tied to each other with a public spine. The public spine crosses the existing media boulevard bridging between the two sides of the road. Connection between the parks on the east and west are provided with this pedestrian route. and a permanent shading structure is all along the spine. Where the boulevard and the spine intersect, the media hub will be located. This media hub serves as a high street during the day, has potential to transform into a public plaza on special occasions like New Year’s day, National Day, a movie premier or sports event by temporarily suspending traffic. Taking benefit from this identified use on the boulevard and an auditorium is proposed between the boulevard and the courtyard. The project introduces series of new public spaces for Abu Dhabi adding value to the public realm and enhancing the boulevard’s value.

04 CLIFF WELLNESS CENTER The overall approach for the entire master plan has been to take into account the morphological conditions of the site and its potential to grow produce that Rabat is popular for. This agricultural approach creates identity for each zone and adds value to the experience of the person living here and enhances community feeling. It also becomes an unforgettable experience for the visitors to be part of the rich agrarian lifestyle that this project proposes to offer. The landscape approach would be thick buffer to plantation of grains and vegetables to sparse vegetation as we move closer to the water edge.

JEDDAH CULTURAL HUB In an area of 7,000 SQM overlooking AlArbain Lake stands Jeddah Cultural Hub. The project aims to create cultural, communal, and educational platforms that fulfil all users NEED. The main approach is to recapture the microclimate of AlBalad’s urban fabric by studying its routes, open spaces, masses, and building’s orientation. This has been achieved through improving the microclimate conditions for the buildings and their inhabitants. Over 1600 SQM stands Jeddah Public Library. Jeddah Public Library strives to achieve a connection between all ages of users, and to enlighten the knowledge of both youth and children IN AlBalad heritage. The library is emphasized in the cultural hub through its scale, location, integration with the landscape and fully transparency on the ground floor. The public library consists of variety of functions such as café, lobby, book collections, children library, youth library, silent reading rooms, group studying room, workshop studios, classes, multipurpose hall, auditorium, technology areas, reading steps, a terrace overlooking the plaza, and services.

CONTEXT ANALYSIS

ANALYZING THE ROUTES OF ALBALAD: THE BLACK ROUTES provide a shaded network of narrow streets and small spaces in between as patio-like areas. Cantilevered buildings or building components, membranes and small enclosed courtyards are traditional responses to the climate.

ANALYZING THE OPEN SPACES OF ALBALAD: The public open spaces are being enclosed, inward looking and shaded for most of the day for equal importance of natural lighting and ventilation. Air circulation is improved through wind channeling in shaded narrow streets in the direction of the main wind.

ANALYZING THE COMPACTNESS OF BUILDINGS: The grouping is allowing A proper ventilation or even increase the airflow. Zigzagging narrow alleys receive minimum radiation, and establish shaded spaces throughout the day which provide a cool and comfortable micro-climate.

FORM DEVELOPMENT

The main angle was a response to the south west side of the site plot (where the building is located), to bock the south sun and for easier access from the parking.

To reduce the foot print and to give some fully transparent spaces with integration of the landscape.

For both empathizes and maximize the lake view, the reading area is projected toward the lake.

The main entrance has been cancaved in while integrating the plaza within the indoor space.

34

Young adult and children library is projected toward albalad to enlighten their knowledge of the heritage.

A family terrace on the upper floor has been provided.

08 ALDANA MOSQUE A contemporary mosque should symbolize Islamic monotheism and the unity of the Muslim Community. The design offers a landmark and an icon for the Muslim community to gather, inspire, communicate and interact while allowing the fluid movement of people. The architectural, cultural, social and religious concept of the mosque and its surrounding was the base of the fresh composition of the mosque and public plaza while respecting the movement of people through the site. The traditional sahan that is transformed to vertical plaza invites and conducts pedestrians towards the mosque. The mosque becomes part of the nature and its context rather than an isolated object.

09 WTC MOSQUE While the main purpose of a mosque is to provide a space for Muslims to come together for prayers, the significance of a mosque arises from its role as an urban space that forms the heart of its neighborhood and the community. The ambition of the project is to transform the site into an urban connector and public space that will be used as a part of the urban fabric. The transformation respects the importance of the site with the residential surroundings, creating the place for the public to interact and socialize in. As a result, the holistic design of the mosque makes it operate at the scale of the city, the surroundings, and the individuals.
