The Iron Whale, located on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park, is quite a departure from the previous ventures of the McLoone Restaurant Group. It features a rustic, yet still contemporary design in the spirit of seafarers, with prominent reclaimed wood, ropes, and gas lanterns.

By Executive Chef Michael Dolan, in the soon to be completed Fifth Avenue Pavilion redesign includes indoor seating that accommodates 130 people, 34 bar seats, and an outdoor boardwalk dining space that will seat up to 100 guests.

The new eatery is located next to the Tim McLoone’s Supper Club and a redesigned Robinson Ale House. Finishing touches are also in process for the famous exterior bandshell, which will feature 238 ADA compliant stadium seats, a raised stage, dance floor, and a rooftop restaurant and bar offering floor to ceiling windows that lends to an open outdoor feel.

The restaurant’s central dining area accomadates more than 100 guests, in addition to space for nearly 100 guests outside of the restaurant.

With its Asbury Park Boardwalk location, outdoor ocean view dining is a strong feature of the Iron Whale. Indoors features an open kitchen, a fireplace, and a private meeting or party room. The Iron Whale is another exciting addition to the already resurgent Asbury Park scene and is open seven days a week for brunch, lunch and dinner year-round.

When the time came for Tim McLoone to open his newest place of business, the twelfth location in a span of a three decade career, he wanted to do something a little different with the Iron Whale.

“There is no one really emphasizing seafood on the boardwalk,” mentioned Tim McLoone, commenting that the “whale” in the restaurant’s title showcases the restaurant’s focal point. “We wanted people to get something here they can’t get anywhere else.”
