The viking’s lands
N
ORTHEN PART OF NORWAY. Last February we spent ten wonderfull days in ths place. While we were there we have learnt a lot of things from our exchange partners, Stangnes Skole students, and from the people we had the opportunity to meet, their family members, friends and teachers from the school. However, one of the things surely we will never forget is to have seen with our own eyes how their culture is strongly rooted to the weather they have. It’s fascinating how wonderful and pacific seems to be everything around when the sun comes up illuminating powerfully and reflecting in the white landscapes. The winters there are beautiful, snow covers everything and it seems it doesn’t have any intention to disappear. Their weather is something we unknown. We, Mediterranean people, think innocently that our winters are cold and we couldn’t imagine how freezing they are there, in this Scandinavian lands, near where Santa Claus and his reindeers lives… very far away from our countries with twelve daily hours of sun. The sun never gets up in winter; it sleeps all day somewhere in the near horizon, observing everyone bashfully when it seems to wake up for a while.
HARSTAD
In terms of population this town it’s the second one with more inhabitants of the Tromps country. It is located in the large island of Hinnøya. This one is the fourth-largest island in Norway. These are nice and peaceful places to enjoy quietly the natural environment of the north. .
Words can’t describe this sensation, I just feel strongly attracted to this magic weather.
But Norwegians not only know how to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of their land, they also know how to prevent themselves from the hard conditions of the nature, as the ancient inhabitants of these lands, they are conceit and consequent with the dangers of the weather. Maybe for these reason the Vikings were so strong, maybe if they were able to skip the death fighting against other civilizations was because they were able to survived in this meteorological conditions
THE BIGGEST FEAR OF A MAN It’s getting dark, and clouds are starting to cover this majestic landscape. The man below the mountains observes the majestic scene crossing over a frozen river.
