Confined Space Entry and Technical Rescue | 1:30 - 4:30 pm

In this seminar, participants will review proper procedures for making entry into permit required confined spaces and non-permit required confined spaces. The purpose of this seminar is to explain strategies to safeguard employees’ health and safety when dealing with potential dangers associated with confined spaces. Individuals will re-affirm knowledge in proper entry program procedures, facility pre-planning, tying knots, new equipment, and proper patient packaging. Hands-on skills will be conducted in a mobile confined space trailer, a hands-on review of an entry permit required confined space, and all three roles of the entry will be reviewed and practiced. Life-Saving Fire Protection and Prevention Strategies | 1:30 - 3:30 pm

This interactive and life-saving seminar will feature two different perspectives in the area of fire protection and prevention. One perspective is from the safety side of the commercial construction space and will address the OSHA standards as well as overall job site safety. The other perspective will come from the fire services side of the equation, where high-level strategies and best practices will be discussed. This seminar is an excellent opportunity to get multiple perspectives on the many topics, concerns, and issues surrounding fire safety, protection, and prevention that exist on a commercial construction job site. In this seminar, Joe and Kim will discuss how their own unique experiences led them to a passionate safety career; this will be an excellent opportunity for new safety professionals or those who desire to get into the field. We will discuss that some of us end up in safety by accident. Many organizations look to hire from within to provide opportunities to their existing employees. But for many, this is how they were projected into safety. We will share a road map of how others can work towards an enhanced involvement in safety in their own professional careers. We will address some common pitfalls that make the job more difficult and highlight tactics that gain trust and the necessary buy-in from coworkers to build a successful and sustainable culture in your company’s safety program. This seminar is an immersive hands-on experience with the most common life-threatening injuries in the workplace. Students will perform skills such as tourniquet application, wound packing, and chest seals on mannequins with realistic fluid loss. In this seminar the moderator will ask the OSHA Consultants pre-submitted questions from the MBI membership. The consultants will answer the questions and create dialogue on the topics to provide explanation to standards and interpretation. Building a Foundation for Sustainable Employee Engagement & Retention Through Performance Evaluation | 1:30 - 4:30 pm

In this seminar, Ryan will share the performance matrix he and his company custom designed and implemented at Key Cooperative here in Central Iowa. The matrix is a weighted approach for all levels of the organization, and Ryan will explain and discuss how the system has motivated and recognized top performers. The matrix identifies that safety isn’t separate and utilizes leading indicators in determining performance. This seminar will include a workshop component where attendees will start working on their matrix. Attendees are encouraged to bring their leading indicators, KPI’s, and any other information that will be helpful in building the most realistic and effective performance matrix for their company.
