MBI Members Delivered Record Fundraising Year

MBI MEMBERS DELIVERED

RECORD FUNDRAISING YEAR

BY BEN HAMMES DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS

As we close the books on the 2021 fundraising season for the MBI-PAC, I wanted to provide the membership an update on how we did collectively. If you recall in some of my previous articles, I stated our goal of raising $150,000 for the MBI-PAC this year. I chose that number strategically to address the needed level of support from MBI to our legislative candidates for office. I also picked this lofty number to challenge the membership through our Builders Action Fund campaign to reach deeper into their own companies more than ever before.

2022 marks an unusual year of political activity in Iowa. Not only is it a mid-term election nationally, the legislative boundaries in Iowa are changed. That means competitive primaries, retirements and renewed ambitions for political outsiders. It was important that we raise a substantial amount of money this year heading into the 2022 elections by putting MBI at the forefront.

With the new Builders Action Fund push, we asked for a higher level of contributions, commitment and activity with our PAC program in return for additional recognition and exposure amongst our individuals and companies. At the direction of the Government Affairs Committee, we increased our largest contribution level from $750 to $1,500. That hadn’t been done in over 20 years. We also started our first Legacy Club level that recognizes a company’s collective efforts in contributing to the PAC including getting new team members to contribute, sponsoring a PAC event and direct advocacy to lawmakers.

I’m pleased to report to you that we ended the year with 173 contributors raising $133,736. While we came up a little short of our $150,000 goal, we raised a record amount this year and I’m extremely proud of how you responded. This total represents a 20% increase over 2020 and a 12% increase over 2019. We also saw our first Company Legacy Club member that will be recognized at the Annual Winter Conference for their incredible support of our advocacy efforts.

Sincerely, thank you to all who have contributed this year AND in year’s past. There’s primarily one reason we sit where we do legislatively, and that’s because of you. If you have any questions about our advocacy efforts, or would like me to come address your team of employees, please don’t hesitate to reach out at BHammes@MBI.Build.
