Attendees of the 30 Hour Construction Industry class will receive high level safety knowledge from a field leader perspective to understand and implement OSHA regulations and requirements on their jobsites. Instruction will be blended learning with lecture, interactive presentations, group activities and “live” demonstrations that include real life day-to-day scenarios, developing pre-plans the importance of learning and adhering to proper safety procedure, as well as practical understanding of why safety conscious behavior is vital for each and every worker on the job site.
Upon completion of this course, attendees will receive a course completion card.

Brandon Black Director of Education and Training

Brandon began his career as a card-carrying member of the Carpenter’s Local Union#106 and worked his way through the ranks of several Iowa specialty interior contractors. Brandon was previously employed with an ENR Top Specialty Contractor where he worked on the site of Microsoft’s large Data Center project in Des Moines. This opportunity allowed him to look at construction project safety from a different perspective, all while providing him knowledge growth of “whole-project” safety. Brandon now helps to provide a well-rounded safetymentality to job sites and provides the CSSI team with a “field perspective” while delivering a wide array of services related to inspections, site visits and employee education. In addition to being a certified American Red Cross Instructor for First Aid/CPR/AED, Brandon has earned certificates from the National Safety Council that include Specialist in Safety & Health and Advanced Safety as well as being a certified equipment instructor through the IVES Training Group.
Kim Hodne Director of Compliance and Inspection Services

Kim has worked in heavy industry for more than thirty years, transitioning from the trades to full time safety in 1997 as a yard safety specialist. His career continued to grow becoming a Washington State OSHA safety compliance officer and on to Safety Director for Alaska’s largest shipyard. The unique path from deck-plates to board room gives Kim a unique perspective and understanding of how safety is applied and practiced in in the workplace. He knows that for a safety culture to exist and be successful requires “buy-in” from all levels of the company, a shared value in practice. His approach is not “Safety First”, but rather “Safety Always”. He also understands that employees must embrace safety; not because they are told to – but because they believe in it.
Anna Copeland Safety Consultant |Construction Safety Specialists, Inc. | Quad Cities, IA
Anna started her career in safety over a decade ago in the heavy and civil construction environment. After graduating from Black Hawk College and Western Illinois University with degrees in Business, Anna has found a passion for safety and the core belief that safety is fundamental to all aspects of business operations. Having experience in multiple facets of the heavy and civil construction industry such as facility management, program development and implementation, quality control, project management, construction materials production, insurance, and risk management positions Anna to be able to connect the ‘why’ and the ‘how’. Anna is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Associate Safety Professional (ASP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and has earned several technical certifications related to the construction industry. Through working with organizations like the National Safety Council, she has earned the Advanced Safety Certificate and was named to their class of 2021 Rising Stars of Safety. Anna believes in servant leadership and demonstrates this through her work with the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the Moline Second Alarmers Association. With a dedication for continuous improvement, she hopes to inspire others to bridge the gap between safety and operations. As stated on the ASSP challenge coin, Anna truly believes that safety, health, and well-being are the inherent right of all.
Jerry Eslick Owner/Instructor |Professional Rescue Innovations |Adel, IA
Jerry is a thirty-six-year veteran in fire service and recently retired from the West Des Moines Fire Department as Deputy Chief of Training. He is currently a Field Staff Instructor for the Fire Service Training Bureau and owner/instructor for Professional Rescue Innovations. Jerry began his career in the Air Force as an ARFF firefighter. After 4 years of active duty, he and his wife came back to Iowa to raise a family. At that time, he joined the Des Moines Fire Department and within eight years was in charge of the training department. He left the Des Moines Fire Department for the opportunity to be the Chief of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Another career change came with the new position on the West Des Moines Fire Department where he retired after 17 years of service. He retired after twenty-one years of service from the Air National Guard in Des Moines. In 2008, Jerry received the Iowa Society of Fire Service Instructor’s “Instructor of the Year Award”. As a result of developing Professional Rescue Innovations, Jerry has been teaching fire/rescue related programs to fire departments in the Midwest as well as safety programs focused on industry needs for the past 23 years.
