Tradies National Health Month

Every month can be Tradies National Health Month

Every August, the Australian Physiotherapy Association runs the Tradies National Health Month campaign to raise awareness of health and injury risks for people in trade occupations. We think it should be every month! Tradies make up only 35 per cent of the workforce but are involved in nearly 60 per cent of serious workplace injuries. If you are an employer, you are responsible for workplace health and safety. You should ensure your staff and subcontractors have access to the best advice available.

Contact your local physiotherapist and ask about a workplace assessment tailored to your tradies. They can do many things, such as: • provide safe manual handling tips • demonstrate safe stretches for injury prevention • management techniques that can be incorporated into your crew’s daily routine • raise awareness and knowledge about workplace safety and injury prevention • check your workplace for risks and health hazards • highlight the benefits of seeing a physiotherapist for a range of chronic health conditions You can also arrange for a physiotherapist to regularly visit your workplace.
