Workshop ‘Food for Inspiration and Innovation’ On the 28th of August the workshop ‘Food for Inspiration and Innovation’ took place in Helmond. A tasteful and inspiring day for companies and designers! This meeting was based on Material Tables and supervised by Materials Sense in collaboration with Happiefood, in assignment of Food 4 Future. This interactive workshop connected networks of Food companies and designers, and facilitate creativity and the sharing of expertise in an open atmosphere. By crossing the borders of your own profession and interaction with other peoples’ insights, you’ll discover new product ideas, challenging applications and new market potential for your materials. Guest speaker Ton Teerling provided new insights with his lecture about ‘recognition’. ‘Good to brainstorm with people from different disciplines, it should happen more often in daily practice’ (Robert Danse, product developer Maison van den Boer). ‘Because of the feedback from designers, you notice more possibilities for your own product and current company ideas’ (Albert de Hollander, marketing-sales manager, Covelt/Ariza. ‘You get to know how a company works, what problems they face in daily practice and where their focus is set on’ (Designer Djenny Brugmans)
Material Sense in the Dutch Design Week: Wrap it! Materials and Packaging: about 20 Chinese and Eindhoven based designers worked together around the theme of packaging. This workshop took place on the 20th of October during the Dutch Design Week and the designers took the challenge to exchange ideas for authentic Chinse food and typical Dutch traditional food. On this day, the deeprooted Chinese tradition of working in paper and natural materials, and the strong Dutch tradition of simple, clear, and graphic design met in this collaboration. The concepts related to packaging, concealing, and presenting as well as the results of hands-on material experiments are shown as film footage in the exhibition ‘Chinese Soul Space’ from the 18th of October till the 11th of January 2009 at the Designhuis Eindhoven and at Drisag in Belgium, together with the exhibition of Chinese designwork. 1 ∙ newsletter autumn 2008 material sense
Material request for our new exhibition Material Sense is creating a new travelling exhibition named Responsive! This presentation will be kicked off at the Hanover CeBIT Fair on the 3rd of March 2009 and is a follow up from last years successful presentation D-compose. CeBIT is the world’s largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments. The theme we have chosen is Responsive and deals with materials that respond to their environment or human body. For the environment you can think of materials reacting on changes of light, temperature, moist and so on. For the human body, its for example materials that react on touch or body changes. In this exhibition it is about the way materials respond to our requests as humans in order to provide comfort, safety and get our attention. As participant of our network we would like to give you first, the opportunity to present your new materials and materials developments! If you would suggest one of your materials developments, that suits the themes and is ready to be shown to a (professional) public, please upload your material and photo before the 10th of December, using this link: www.materialsense.com/content/material-data-sheet. After selection we will send you more details about the conditions and costs. We’re looking forward receiving your reply!
