Exhibition Cure & Care at Taipei, Taiwan How to keep healthcare affordable in a society with rising life expectancy and increasing chronic diseases? Cure & Care at the Design Museum Taipei (Taiwan) showcases innovative games, apps and 3D-prints that support our quality of life. Material Sense co-curated this exhibition. read more>
Material Sense (2002) is an independent organization for materials innovation. The organization plays various roles. They make the world of materials visible and tangible. E.g. in the travelling themed exhibitions, lectures, workshops and through methods by Material Sense directed at experiencing the value of materials. They advise those looking for new materials and technologies, or for the sensorial qualities of products for an optimal experience, within a sustainable society.
Forging the Future during the Dutch Design Week Re-use of existing plastic waste streams and new usage of biomaterials; the importance increases visibly. Within the exhibition Forging the Future by Material Sense, the selected designers, researchers and producers imagine a future through a variety of promising products and experiments. Material Sense LAB 2014 was the start of Material Sense LAB with the successful exhibition Forging the Future. The core team of Material Sense LAB forged the first inspiring follow-up developments and issues. We will give form to these ideas in the upcoming year. Follow Material Sense LAB on facebook.
Material Sense LAB In Material Sense LAB, Material Sense fulfils a catalysing and connecting role based on their materials expertise and design strengths. Working with a selected group of designers, scientists and innovative companies, Material Sense develops and experiments with the materiality of products for the circular economy. In this way, materials are involved in an early stage in the designs of future products. New co-operations and business models are created, and Material Sense offers supports in order to facilitate a successful market

New Material Award 2014 Simone de Waart took part in the nomination committee of the New Material Award 2014. The challenge was for artists and designers to work with new and sustainable technologies and materials to design the future. With two exiting award winners as a result. read more>
Material inspiration: Protective Underwear Worldwide around 200 million woman and men cope with some degree of incontinence. The lack of aesthetics and sustainability of the current disposable materials formed the starting point of the design for the smart and well-made award winning solution by designer Veldhuijzen van Zanten. read more>
Aera Fabrica Heat, air and PLA (100% biodegradable plastic) form the building blocks for a new technique in addition to the existing 3D printing technique. The result of this technique developed by designer Roos Meerman: more efficiency of materials and freedom in the 3D-printed forms. read more>
