Matius Shan Boone short biography: As a one of leading young composer in Indonesia, he received composition education at Universitas Pelita Harapan Conservatory of Music from 2004, studied with Otto Sidharta and Prof. Bernd Asmus which then graduated as best scholar in 2008. During his study, he performed as accompanist, composer, and conductor in many places and studied with many great composers like Slamet Abdul Sjukur, Ben Pasaribu, Dieter Mack, and Roderik de Man. He became composition lecturer and orchestra conductor for his former university in 2008, later became Head of Composition department there from 2009-2011. His works have received many prizes, like finalist of famous competition Gaudeamus Composer Competition Amsterdam 2010, prize-winner of South East Asian Young Composer Competition 2011 and prize winner of Indonesian National Salihara New Music Composition Competition 2011. He has been commissioned and invited to perform his works in many places like Yogyakarta Contemporary Music Festival 2008/2010, Manila Composer Lab 2010, International Gamelan Festival Amsterdam 2010, National University of Singapore Art Festival 2011, Biennale Literary Salihara 2011, Indonesia Composer Week 2012, and 1st Musica AntiquaNova Call for Scores and Commissions 2013 in Argentina. He got grant to attend Kuala Lumpur Composer Music Festival 2009 and scholarship by Goethe Malaysia to attend 45th International Darmstadt New Music Summercourse 2010 where he has masterclasses with living legend composer like Bryan Ferneyhough, Rebecca Saunders, Hans Thomalla, Manos Tsangaris, and analysis studies from Yuval Shaked. His music has been played by famous ensembles like ensemble Mosaik, Ensemble Gendhing, Asian Contemporary Ensemble, and Kyai Fatahillah Ensemble. Besides making new music compositions, he is active as conductor and music arranger in some church orchestras in Jakarta like Jatinegara Youth Ensemble, GKY Pluit Allemonia Orchestra, and Grenvile Chamber Orchestra. He is also teaching composition, counterpoint, music theory and history at Institut Musik Indonesia and Cantata Institute of Art Jakarta recently.
