UPGRADED CHORE-TRONICS® 3 CONTROLLER IMPROVES BIRD COMFORT AND HEALTH
Chore-Time has updated its CHORE-TRONICS® 3 Controller with features to help poultry producers optimize productivity. The most significant upgrades focus on automatically adjusting the environment of poultry houses to enhance bird comfort and health. These features are standard in new installations and can be added to existing CHORE-TRONICS 3 Systems through a simple software update.

The updated CHORETRONICS 3 System continuously calculates the minimum ventilation time for removing heat and moisture from the house. The system works by keeping track of the actual amount of water going into a house and also taking For many years now EMKA Hatchery Equipment has been helping with the building and designing of commercial sex determination incubators for SOOS, an Israeli start-up active in the poultry sector.
Imagine a factory that throws away half of its production. This is how the egg-production industry works.
Every year, commercial hatcheries around the world produce 15 billion chicks: 7.5 billion are females that can lay eggs, and 7.5 billion are males measurements of temperature and humidity both inside and outside the house. By using the data to modify the minimumventilation run time, the system is able to automatically achieve a desired range of relative humidity to help keep birds more comfortable and floors drier.
Larger birds need higher ventilation rates to stay comfortable. The CHORETRONICS 3 Controller is preloaded with how much air each Chore-Time fan can move and provides automatic control to accurately maintain maximum CFM curves based on bird age. As static pressure changes in the house, the control calculates the required CFM for each fan based on the conditions. that have no commercial use and are therefore exterminated after they hatch.
This practice involves major animal suffering and abuse, and a huge waste of energy, water, incubation space, and production capacity that could be used to ensure better nutritional security globally.
SOOS developed an incubation system that affect the sex development process in poultry embryo and turn genetic males into functional female chicks.
Their system operates an
The PDS system automatically adjusts water supply based on bird age and demand. While PDS isn’t new to the CHORETRONICS 3 Controller, the ability to flush the system at any time using a “Flush Now” button is an additional feature. It gives poultry producers another way to stimulate birds to eat and drink beyond the ability to flush automatically based on water temperature and/or time of day.
Like most CHORE-TRONICS 3 Controls, these new features can be monitored and activated with the CHORE-TRONICS® Mobile App. The App gives poultry producers more options for managing poultry houses by giving them instant access to current conditions and remote

EGGSCARGOSYSTEM® INTRODUCES NEW PALLET
GI-OVO is expanding its EggsCargoSystem® with a new pallet.
This concerns the EC Pallet Closed Deck which GI-OVO sees as a logical addition to the existing pallets with an open top deck. Especially in situations Global cattle prices remain disjointed, with a variety of supply and demand factors influencing sharp price movements throughout the year. The rising number of COVID-19 cases in the US, dry conditions in South America and the shift in seasonal conditions across Australia remain FAO officially launched the LEAP guidelines for assessment of the environmental performance of feed additives in livestock supply chains. By significantly acting on feed efficiency, feed additives influence the environmental footprint of livestock production.
The document, largely grounded on the work of the IFIF-FEFANA Specialty Feed Ingredients Sustainability (SFIS) Project, aims at providing a harmonized approach to the assessment of environmental performance of feed additives, where eggs with a bad shell are transported, this new pallet can be of excellent service. Earlier this year, when rainfall prompted a turn in the season, Australian cattle prices spiked as producers looked to replenish supply levels following the long period of elevated turnoff. This has flowed into restocker categories across Australia remaining elevated over their feeder and processor counterparts to sit at record levels as demand for cattle heats up.
Typically, Australian prices tend to align with Uruguay and remain below US levels, however, Australian cattle prices have been the highest in the taking into consideration the impact of their production and use all along the supply chain for large ruminants, and poultry. While capturing the environmental impact of the production of feed additives, the guidance compares it to the potential benefits from their use: reduction of GHGs, ammonia efficiency and improved feed efficiency.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE WHEN IT COMES TO THE FARMYARD
Prevention may be better than cure but on the farm, prevention also saves you money. On a dairy farm a sick animal not only costs money in veterinary fees but also in lost milk production. A cow can go down very quickly, making it vital to identify infection before it takes hold.
Dairymaster technology has been leading the way in keeping a herd healthy. By installing the right equipment and availing of the best technology, the producer will see a return on investment not only in the near future but for many years down the line.
Josh Goeser, Wisconsin, has a herd of over 1200 cows and knows how important it is to keep that herd healthy. He invested in the Dairymaster MooMonitor+ system, as he saw it as the best way to keep a close eye on his animals. Every animal is fitted with the sealed-unit collar, which monitors the cow’s behaviour and the easy-to-use equipment sends readings and alerts back to his cell. Josh can now see how each cow is performing but more importantly, he can easily see when an individual animal is not quite right.
“With the MooMonitor+ we’ve seen heat detection increase. We have less cows getting vet checked and picking up more cystic cows. Health alerts are very beneficial with detecting sick cows sooner, cutting down on treatment costs.”
Not long after the system was installed Josh noticed an animal’s readings on his cell weren’t what they should be. Rumination was down and her resting rate was way off that of the others. With the size of his herd spotting the sick animal would not have been easy without the MooMonitor+ collar.
Every good business manager knows that protecting your assets is key to ensuring a thriving business. Keeping cows healthy is the only way to protect a herd. It saves money on veterinary bills, cuts the use of antibiotics and keeps the animal doing what she should be doing, producing milk suitable for sale. By taking the worry out of animal health the producer can concentrate on running the farm and enjoying the returns of a well-run farm.

EGGXYT LICENSES THE GEIGS™ TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM FROM TROPIC BIOSCIENCES IN A GROUNDBREAKING PROJECT
eggXYt, a biotechnology company revolutionizing the livestock industry, and Tropic Biosciences (“Tropic”), the pioneering agriculturalbiotechnology company, announced a license agreement to apply Tropic’s Gene Editing induced Gene Silencing (GEiGS™) technology to develop genetic resistance in chickens against Avian Influenza virus.
Avian Influenza virus is one of the deadliest and most costly avian diseases. The 2015 outbreak in the U.S., for example, led to the slaughter of 50 million poultry and is estimated to have had an economic cost of $3.2 billion. Outbreaks not only disrupt the protein supply chain, but they also threaten human health as the disease can be transferred from birds to humans and has been documented to lead to severe illness and fatality. eggXYt brings to the collaboration its proven expertise in accelerating gene editing solutions to disrupt the poultry sector. Over the last four years, eggXYt has developed its Almarai Company donated 400,000 SAR to the National Wildlife Support Fund, which comes as part of its social responsibility program, in which preserving the environment is one of its main axes.
In a meeting held at the Saudi Wildlife Authority’s headquarters, Mr. Khalid bin Muhammad Al Basri, the Director of the Wildlife Support Fund, has received the flagship product, an innovative solution to determine the sex of chicks before incubation, which is set to save the 4 billion male chicks in the egg layer industry that are currently culled each year due to their inability to lay eggs and because it is not economical to raise them for meat. Through the application of GEiGS™, eggXYt will expand its poultry portfolio beyond its initial product and into the field of animal health. eggXYt has recently moved to a state of the art R&D facility and is set to launch a fundraising round, which will support its R&D programs and path to commercialization.
Yehuda Elram, CEO & CoFounder of eggXYt commented, “Our primary goal is to improve animal welfare and efficiency within the poultry industry, and we are excited to embark on this project that broadens our platform of gene editing solutions for animal health.” He went on to say “Following the COVID-19 outbreak, we are all very mindful of the threat of zoonotic diseases to human health and so we are donation from Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Otaibi, Almarai’s Head of Corporate Communication and Public. Mr. Al Basri has praised the role of Almarai in supporting preserving the wildlife and the successful partnership between the two parties that extended for more than 10 years.
“Preserving the environment is one of our priorities in Almarai, and therefore we support many especially motivated to embark on a project that may help to prevent further pandemics.”
Tropic Biosciences developed GEiGS™ to support development of its own tropical crops, for example banana plants that are resistant to Panama disease, a devastating fungal disease that is threatening production globally. Recognizing the wider potential of GEiGS™ beyond tropical crops, Tropic has been making the proprietary technology platform commercially available to other innovative companies, including world leaders in the crop and livestock breeding

NEW TREATMENT NOW AVAILABLE FOR ALL EUROPEAN VETS
The longer life span of pets goes hand in hand with the increase in geriatric diseases, particularly the number of cancers being diagnosed. Since the beginning of 2020, Virbac have been offering European veterinarians an innovative treatment solution that specifically targets mastocytomas, the most common form of canine skin cancer.
Traditionally, the treatment of canine MCTs can be surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or a combination of all three. There are few targeted treatments designed for the animal available for veterinarians, as the anti-cancer molecules mainly come from human medicine. Surgery is the first therapeutic option (more than half of the cases), but it’s not always possible due to the MCTs’ location. Indeed, the aim of surgery is to remove as many cancer cells as possible by making margins of removal of up to 3 cm all around the tumor, which can be a problem when the tumor is located in areas like paws. Other possible obstacles may be: individual criteria of the animal (anaesthetic risks for example), the grade or extent of the tumor, or the owner’s reluctance when faced with the constraints or costs of hospitalisation and treatment. Our objective was to offer new treatment options combining therapeutic efficacy and ease of administration, when surgery is not possible; And to complement treatments with protocols based on products approved by veterinary oncologists. “On 15 January 2020, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) granted a centralised marketing authorisation for our new antineoplastic agent for dogs. After an official launch in April, with the first Virbac Oncology Summit, our new MCTs treatment was gradually rolled out across Europe, starting with Germany in May and then the UK in July. In September, it was the turn of French and Spanish veterinarians, followed in October by practitioners from Italy, Scandinavia, and Central and Eastern European countries. Thank you to our teams whose commitment made it possible to bring this innovation to European veterinarians despite the complicated present sanitary situation. More than ever, we are committed to drive veterinary medicine forward and work together to improve the health and quality of life of our pets. “
CHICKEN MEAT EXPORTS REMAIN HIGH IN 2020
Shipments to Saudi Arabia and the European Union present the highest increases in October.
Surveys by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) show that Brazilian chicken meat exports remain high in the first 10 months in 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. In all, 3.498 million tons were shipped between January and October this year, against 3.490 million tonnes last year.
In revenue, sales in the sector totaled US $ 5.066 billion, 13% less than in the first ten months of 2019, with US $ 5.820 billion.
In the monthly comparison, 319.7 thousand tons were exported in the tenth month of 2020, a number 9.4% lower than the 353 thousand tons exported in the same period of 2019. The result in dollars of October shipments reached US $ 446.8 million, 21.2% less than in the same month of the previous year, with US $ 567 million.
China remains the main destination for Brazilian chicken meat in 2020. In total, 564 thousand tons were exported between January and October this year, a number 24% higher than that recorded in the same period in 2019. Other highlights of Asia are South Korea, with 109.5 thousand tons (+ 7%), and Singapore, with 106.4 thousand tons (+ 32%).
Considering only the month of October, Saudi Arabia was the main highlight, with 44.9 thousand tons shipped in the period, a number 22% higher than that recorded in the same period of 2019. Other highlights in the month were the European Union, with 21.2 thousand tons (+ 29%) and South Africa, with 23.3 thousand tons (+ 5%).
“Despite the impacts felt by the lack of Mexico and the Philippines in sales this month compared to October 2019, international exports generally remain at levels equivalent to that seen in 2019. The gradual resumption of shipments to Saudi Arabia and the the increase in volumes sent to Europe indicate greater capillarity in the sector’s shipments”, says Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
Among the states, Paraná continues to be the largest exporter, with 1.366 million tons between January and October (+ 0.91%), followed by Santa Catarina, with 808 thousand tons (-26.3%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 559.8 thousand tons (+ 19.9%) and Goiás, with 176.2 thousand tons (+ 37.1%).

Producing the best feed requires specialized processing technology. As a reliable technology partner, FAMSUN has always kept this concept in mind and provided feed producers processing solutions according to the growth demand of the farming species, and as per the operational targets of feed mill owners who want to well-adapt to the merging challenges such as adopting new ingredient, improving operational efficiency, cutting cost, ensuring environmental sustainability, etc.
In close collaboration with customers, FAMSUN recently has accelerated the development progress of its future-proof solutions, and successfully launched a new shrimp feed pelleting line to help producers increase their micro-pellet feed supply during COVID-19 crisis.
The reconfigured pelleting line includes a MYTZ1200X conditioning system, a SZLH650×175X pellet mill, a SWDB24×24B stabilizer, and a SLNF22×22A cooler. MYTZ1200X and SZLH650×175X are specially designed to produce the best production efficiency and the best pellet quality according to the material characteristics of shrimp feed formula and the feeding behaviors of shrimp in different growing phases. The SWDB24×24B stabilizer, on the other hand, creates a fast-preheating, uniform and high-temperature conditioning space to obtain improved starch gelatinization and water durability for feed pellets. While the SLNF22×22A cooler is installed to achieve uniform, thoroughly cooling and reasonable water reduction, avoiding weight loss of product causing by over dewatering. Technically and practically, this is one of the largest micro-pellet shrimp feed pelleting lines in China. The optimized line has proven itself by increasing production capacity from 3-4 t/h to 5-6 t/h when processing pellets as small as 1.0 mm in some feed mills since May 2020.
Through automation and the transformation of FAMSUN’s expertise and the best production practices of shrimp feed mills into digital solutions, all machines on the pelleting line are able to work at their best performance without redundant capabilities. Product moisture is well controlled throughout the whole processing line. While the impact of ring die on pellet quality is eliminated by reasonable linear velocity, proper die hole opening pattern and optimized opening rate.
All of these thoughtful design and considerations finally contribute to high-capacity yet high-performance, costeffective micro-pellet shrimp feed production. Feed pellets are produced to have all the right attributes in terms of density, water durability, pellet appearance, digestibility, etc.
Improved automation level of the whole pelleting line also helps to reduce operation complexity and allows producers to continue their production with less operators in the time of COVID-19 crisis.

NEOGEN LAUNCHES IGENITY® FEEDER, A NEW COMMERCIAL DNA SORTING TOOL
NEOGEN Corporation announced the launch of Igenity® Feeder, a DNA tool designed to assist cattle producers in the stocker and backgrounder phase to rank and manage feeder cattle according to their genetic potential for carcass traits.
After several years of delivery and increasing industry awareness, the Igenity Terminal Index (ITI) is now available in a new format as Igenity Feeder to measure the genetic potential for economically relevant carcass traits.
“With Igenity Feeder we are reaching a critical audience in the beef supply chain by offering a DNA tool they can utilize to Royal DSM, a global sciencebased company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, announced the completion of its acquisition of Erber Group for an
The transaction – which excludes two smaller units in the Erber Group – is expected to be earnings enhancing in the first year upon completion. The acquisition of Erber Group was first announced on 12 June 2020.
DSM acquired Erber Group’s Biomin and Romer Labs. Erber make better decisions in the care, nutrition and marketing of their feeder calves,” said John Adent, NEOGEN’s president and chief executive officer. “By extension, producers will use the genomic information to tell the story of their calves to the feedlot level.”
“The genomics team is united by our commitment to deliver accurate, affordable DNA testing to beef producers,” said Marylinn Munson, NEOGEN’s vice president of genomics. “We truly believe our genomic solutions are a good fit at every step of the beef supply chain by helping producers manage risk and prove value.”
Igenity Feeder leverages the ITI and growth profiling information from thousands of commercial fed cattle into an accurate genomic tool to help producers’ sort lots of cattle and enhance profitability. Using Igenity Feeder Group’s specialty animal nutrition and health business Biomin specializes primarily in mycotoxin risk management and gut health performance management, whereas the Romer Labs business focuses on food and feed safety diagnostic solutions. Both expand DSM’s range of higher value-add specialty solutions.
The acquisition of Erber Group’s Biomin further strengthens DSM’s expertise and reputation as a leading provider of animal health and combined with an animal’s enrollment weight and sex, provides new opportunity for grouping of animals into outcome groups.

WORLD LEADERS JOIN FORCES TO FIGHT THE ACCELERATING CRISIS OF ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE
The heads of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and World Health Organization (WHO) recently launched a new One Health Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
Group members include heads of government, government ministers, leaders from the private sector and civil society. The group is co-chaired by Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, and Sheikh Hasina Wazed, Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The new group will harness the leadership and influence of these world-renowned figures to catalyze global attention and action to preserve antimicrobial medicines and avert the disastrous consequences of antimicrobial resistance.
The Tripartite organizations launched the group during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2020 (18-24 November), as part of their shared call for united action to preserve and protect antimicrobial medicines. The group was created in response to a recommendation from the Interagency Coordination Group on Antimicrobial Resistance and supported by Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The Directors-General of FAO, OIE and WHO described the rapid rise of drug resistance as one of the world’s most urgent threats to human, animal and environmental health - endangering food security, international trade, economic development and undermining progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in humans, animals and agriculture are the main drivers of AMR. Resistant micro-organisms can spread between humans, animals or the environment, and the antimicrobials used to treat various infectious diseases in animals and humans can be the same.
“During the COVID-19 crisis, we must not forget that AMR is a ‘slow motion’ pandemic, with significant long-term threats to global public health and food security, which needs multistakeholders engagement,” FAO Director-General QU Dongyu said at a press conference.

The facility, which will be built in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, will raise Atlantic salmon in all production stages from the hatching of imported eggs to harvesting, processing and distributing fully-grown fish for local consumption. The Norwegian equipment supplier AKVA Group will supply the RAS technology used in the production facility. The total production capability of the facility will be around 8,000 metric tonnes of Atlantic salmon by 2026, with plans to grow further as new markets and customer segments are developed.
Nutreco CEO Rob Koremans comments, “As a global population, we have reached or exceeded sustainable limits of fishing of many species for human consumption and other uses. Aquaculture in RAS provides an additional sustainable and safe way to increase the amount of fish available. For Nutreco, supporting RAS directly supports our mission of Feeding the Future in a way that is better for the planet.
“I’m delighted that we’ll be working together with NAP in China. From the facility in Ningbo we will be able to bring fresh, high-quality, Atlantic salmon to millions of Chinese consumers within hours of harvest, reducing the shipping impact on the environment.”
Nutreco Chief Innovation Officer Viggo Halseth adds, “The collaboration will allow Nutreco to further integrate farming and feed solutions towards optimal fish performance and will help further develop this highly sustainable form of aquaculture. It will also help us expand our learning about RAS and continue Skretting’s development of the best feed tailored for RAS systems.”
