Build your own website The NPA has provided a facility within the members’ only section of its website to allow you to build your own website. This service is available at no extra cost to you; so it’s worthwhile trying this out before going to the expense of requesting the services of a web designer. The facility provides you with the ability to build a 5-page ‘microsite’ to include: • An overview of your services (including the facility to upload a photograph of your choice) • Opening times • Contact details • Your affiliation with the NPA and what this means • Links to related websites
To build your own ‘microsite’ you just need to complete a simple form as shown in the adjacent picture. There are several editing features provided: • Enter you own unique URL web address e.g. www.npa.co.uk/sites/smithpharmacy • Ability to display which pharmacy name should be shown – NB this information will also be displayed on the AYP website • Choose from two background colours • Add a logo • Add an image • Add contact details • Update your pharmacy opening hours including lunch time closing • Provide a description on the services that you offer. After completing the form select the ‘next’ button which will allow you to preview the details you have entered before submitting a request for the website to ‘go live’. The NPA will check the details that you have entered and set the website live for you. You can edit the details you have entered at any time. The ‘build a website’ button changes to ‘edit my website’ when a ‘microsite’ has been created.

IRIS now contains over 55,000 pharmacy-related product references as well as over 45,000 bibliographic-style references. Information is abstracted daily from various sources including a variety of pharmacy, nursing and medical journals, product manufacturers, Government publications and the media.
IRIS – the information database ‘for when the answer isn’t in the BNF’ The information database or ‘IRIS’ offers NPA members 24 hour access to the same data sources that NPA information officers use to answer your queries. Although there are many websites offering clinical, business and professional information, only ours brings all this information into a single easily searchable online database. IRIS is the only database designed for community pharmacists that is built, in part, by the answers to the questions your peers are asking. Webshop The Webshop is NPA Business Sales’ online purchasing system for NPA members and can be accessed from any computer, at work or home. The Webshop is updated daily, so instead of using only the Sales Catalogue you can keep up to date with the complete range of products and make certain you are aware of any latest additions.

Target Pricing
Document Store
The NPA Target Pricing Service (brought to you in conjunction with WaveData) is able to give you a guide price for the top 100 plus generics; and this is also split by country.
The NPA document store is an area where you can easily access any resources available from the NPA, such as SOPs, HR documents, contracts and information department publications such as the Malaria and Vaccines charts. To access the document store, you can either hover your mouse over the ‘Resources’ tab on the top menu and select NPA document store or select ‘Document Store’ from the business tools bar.
NPA Preregistration Service Many community pharmacies are now looking to recruit a preregistration student for their business. In the past, recruitment was a labour intensive process often involving placing adverts in printed material – but now you can place your vacancy electronically on the NPA preregistration service. Over 60 per cent of members who placed a vacancy have successfully found a preregistration student.

Financial Modelling Application (FMA) • Do you spend time going through your monthly prescription statements? • Do you ever work out your GP/NP margins? • Has your fees income changed? • What about your NIC? • Have changes in GP prescribing impacted on your income? To help support members in answering these questions the NPA has developed an on-line financial modelling application. This application helps you get answers to hypothetical questions (e.g. What happens if your rent goes up by 10 per cent? What if you hire a second pharmacist? What if you carry out a private service? etc). In the future this application will also produce benchmark reports to help you track how your business is doing compared to the average (e.g. by prescription volume). This application was initially developed for members in England and Wales only. However, as soon as the new contractual frameworks have been finalised in Northern Ireland and Scotland, the NPA will look at developing a financial modelling tool for members in those countries.
