PROJECTS
Situated on site of Calatrava’s proposed tower, the project aims to rif off the proposal, but better acclimate itself to the Chicago skyline in both scale and appearence. The given parameters of the project presented a mixed program of hotel, residential, and office. Next a set height of 1600 ft. added more to the challenge. Overall, the tower aims to create a static form that undulates and blends to the three given programs. This is done by first cutting into the office space creating a more light filled and dynamic plan. Next, the growths spill out in the hotel program to make spaces that push the guests out from the edge of the building for a better viewing of the city. Lastly, the exterior growths extend further out on both the x and y axis to create a livable space for the residential program. Overall these growths break up and give the building life, as well as adding a striation to the exterior facade.

NORDIC MOSQUE HELSINKI FI The week long project was part of a challenge to address the Syrian refugee needs in the nordic countries. Given the country of Finland, the statistics showed that the country had only five mosques. With this in mind the goal of the project became to create a model mosque charette to better help establish the refugees and give them a place in the community. The design aims to take islamic geometries and adapt them into an architecture that draws from scandivian design. The overarching idea is to create a perforated skin based on an islamic pattern that encompasses the structure and allows different lighting effects to take place during the five calls to prayer throughout the day. Next, drawing from the same geometry, to create a colonade based on traditional mosques, but allowing light in overhead the columns giving the space levity.

PARAMETRIC PAVILION

n a t u r e
Tasked with creating a parametric pavilion that draws from nature in under 24 hours, the design abstracts fungus growth on a fallen log. The project aims to create something unreal, to challenge reality. The shape follows a patterning that grows towards movement, and shrinks toward stasis, all of which is grounded by a sweeping bench that grows out into an overhang.
