STOOL Starting off with a fixed round top I shaped a supporting system to carry the top and whoever sits on top. As I started of with a fixed top I made the difference between both elements subtle. Not just by using different materials but also by leaving this mysterious small gap between the 2. Other then that I also tried to express this floating idea further by trying to get a gap between the supporting surface and earth.

LAMP Experimenting with grasshopper made me come up with this idea for a lamp. As with the stool it gives enormous satifsfaction to design something and then put it in a tangible scale. A lamp which I can use during sketching with a subtle extra dimension. The basic structure is a geodesic one with openings that change size based on an attractor point somewhere inside the structure. .9

JP12 house Reinventing the design of tp-house by b-architecten, who reversed the usual way of living in a house. Reanalyzing the given context as the concept they had does not apply tot the context anymore. Meaning they made the first floor into a focus of living and downstairs a space for sleeping and privacy. Due to the development of nearby lots the view from upstairs was blocked by all the new houses so I went back to the old concept of living downstairs and sleeping upstairs but kept the view open upstairs and blocking it through a intrinsic facade concept.

Feng shui. The careful placement of space and objects within spaces. Starting from a basic study in how to create spaces with volumes and using this to extrude and create a museum space. 1 big space, 1 open space but with smaller spaces within. creating a capacious exhibition space that separates different spaces with negative space itself.

the ambition of the territory. On the biennale in Venice 2012 Belgium showed the world the problem we face here in Flanders and put a team together, consisting of architects, artists, urbanists, ... to tackle it and come up with their vision on how to develop it in the futurue. The area of Flanders is known for it’s sprawl and the problems this causes to our society. If a problem occurs then we should try to fix it so for our thesis we got to work on this problem by proposing 2 solutions. One based on our own theory and one derived from the vision of our tutor, putting into reality what he envisions as if he were our office boss.

Vision of the professor: To tackle the sprawl in Flanders he asked us to design a monastery. A cummunity of profane priests in the middle of a suburban area. Within the suburban areas of Belgian live together a variety of people. By inclucing this community of priests we are challenged to think about the transitions, the conflicts between properties and people. How do we combine all these different typologies, all these different visions? .23

By filling our lands with houses, places to live in the way we do we create a horizon filled with houses. Looking at it we don’t really create a place for living. Not a place where you can feel at home. We create small intimate bubles with highways inbetween all these bubbles. High ways which prevent for people to walk on them. For people to gather around on them. With this design I try to get back the idea of a square in these new suburban areas where people meet and get together to have the possibility to create a community. .28
