What is Google Cloud Print? Simply, Google Cloud Print is a technology that connects printers to the web. It has been developed to enable you to print anything, from any device, to any cloud-connected printer. Why do I need it? Google Cloud Print is useful because it enables you to make your printers at home and work available to you and anyone you choose, using common software applications. What devices does it work from? Conveniently, Google Cloud Print works on your phone, tablet, Chromebook, PC and any other web-connected device you want to print from. When you print through Google Cloud Print, your file is securely sent to your printer over the web. Google Cloud Print will work whether you’re in the same room as your printer, or on another continent, irrespective of the device you’re using. Is it secure though? Document security is vital especially in the public sector or anywhere else where confidential or sensitive data is present. With Google Cloud Print, documents are transferred over a secure HTTPS web connection.

Reassuringly, once a print job is completed, the associated document is deleted from Google’s servers. Furthermore, it gives you the ability to delete jobs and your print history whenever you wish.

Does it work with iOS? Absolutely. Also, bear in mind that Google Cloud Print is the standard printing technology used by ChromeOS on Chromebooks. Chromebooks and the internet are an excellent combination. Can it be used in Enterprise applications? According to Google, their Cloud Print technology is used internally on over a thousand printers. It has been designed to scale to meet an organisation’s needs, and can either complement or replace a company’s existing printing infrastructure.
