The American Quonset hut is a typology associated military construction during the early 20th century. The speed and easy construction of these lightweight structures made them extremely successful. The surplus of these buildings left after the war led to many creative adaptations for civilian uses. I meant to stretch the limits of this prefabricated structure in order to creating a pleasing, open, airy, and functional fire house, that would be cheap that would become an icon in the neighborhood. The structural system of the Quonset is based on a repeated frame. This required an investigation of possible connections and building tectonics, and to think in section. This created a kind of extrusion of a desired spatial experience. Then subsequent deletions of areas created various outdoor spaces for pedestrian entry along the commercial street and recreation back by the housing and police station.
