Insertion Patricia Corbett Theater Design Lab - Spring 2015 Working in tandem with an immersive building study, the Insertion was intended to give students a chance to design an additive structure that would affect the experience of an existing building located on campus. Iteration models and diagrams dominated the process, while the final deliverables consisted of renderings and a 1/4 scale model.

Patricia Corbett Theater and its atrium space

Patricia Corbett Theater The Insertion was to be designed for the atrium space of Patricia Corbett Theater, a building in the University’s College Conservatory of Music. Through diagramming and documentation, a basic understanding of the space was developed so that designers could best approach ways in which to create an additive experience to the space.

Development Next, forms were developed to enhance the brick fin that projected through the ceiling. Primary design considerations focused on bringing in natural light and maintaining the geometric language of the existing building.

Final Model and Rendering For the final proposal, a wood model of the Insertion in Patricia Corbett Theater was constructed with basswood and wood glue. A final rendering of the completed project was created using Rhino 5 and Adobe Photoshop.

Athenaeum Cincinnati, Ohio Design Lab - Fall 2015 The Athenaeum project was intended to give students their first experience of designing a building with considerations given to site conditions, program sequence, code restrictions, and structural feasibility. Each student chose an existing empty lot in a Cincinnati neighborhood on which to design an Athenaeum. Process involved massing model iterations based off of site conditions, which eventually led to a final scaled section model and documentation drawings.

Riverside Training Facility Newport, Kentucky Design Lab - Summer 2016 The hypothetical client of this project was the owner of Cincinnati’s rowing club, who needed a design for what was to be his athletes’ new training facility. The site was located at the levee on the bank of the Ohio River in Newport, KY. Project development was divided into three scale-specific lenses: Small, Medium, and Large. Each lens presented a different aspect of the site that would have to be considered when designing our facility.

Small The small lens focused on how to manipulate diametric objects into a unified composition. Later, this exercise would be remembered when deciding how to compositionally join aspects of the project on a larger scale. I focused on creating a unique joint of wood and cement that relied on compression instead of an adhesive to stay united.

Medium The medium lens focused on relating the form of our buildings to site specific features. Through sectional analysis I decided to use the slope of the levee as an influence in the angles of my clerestory apertures. A study of circulation paths from the river to over the levee created a rough contour from which I was able to derive my building’s form.

Circulation study

Large Through sectional studies and plan development, the final lens, large, required the designers to apply program to their derived masses while combining the elements from the previous lens exercises. Two primary sections of the facility are shown, showing views into the training pools (left) and the boat storage/gymnasium (right).

Final Training Facility model Constructed out of basswood, white adhesive, white museum board, and grey chipboard.

Covington Town House Covington, Kentucky Design Lab - Spring 2017 As an introductory exercise into residential design, the town house was a project that focused on exemplifying the site qualities of a 25’ wide x 135’ long lot located on the riverbank in Covington, KY. The client for this project demanded multiple garden spaces and emphasized views of the Cincinnati skyline, located across the river. These considerations, along with addressing how to bring sunlight into the depth of the house, drove the design process.

Co-Op - Chute Gerdeman Group Columbus, Ohio Spring 2016 While on Co-Op in spring of 2016 I worked in retail design for Chute Gerdeman, a design consultant firm based out of Columbus, Ohio. During my experience I learned brand-specific standards and attained an understanding of how designers interact with and emulate a brand’s image. I primarily assisted in completion of specification documents using Revit, while also occasionally using Adobe Photoshop to work on renderings.

Retail Rendering Rendering completed using Revit and 3DMAX software. I added post-rendering effects with Adobe Photoshop.

Co-Op - Trinity: Planning, Design, Architecture Columbus, Ohio Fall 2016 Working for Trinity:PDA helped me discover the intricate processes required to ensure healthcare spaces match the needs of both patients and healthcare workers. My tenure at Trinity mainly consisted of assisting teams with large scale drawings to reach deadlines. I was eventually allocated a small renovation project at the Brandywine Infusion Center in Maryland, with which I converted measured drawings into digital models and produced a completed first draft set of drawings.

Brandywine Infusion Center Remodel Measurements of the space were drawn and a rough plan was given to me. I used this drawing to craft a full model of the space in Revit and develop a completed draft of documents.

Selection of details made from scratch based on existing details & casework

Co-Op - Bassetti Architects Portland, Oregon Summer 2017 During the summer of 2017 I worked in Portland, Oregon for Bassetti Architects, a civic architecture firm specializing in historic high school renovations in the region. While learning about preserving historic elements and how spaces can nurture education, I was able to measure and document the scope of certain projects. Furthermore, I often prepared sheets for meetings that diagrammed code, occupational limits, and fire ratings.

Tualatin High School Remodel Various options for remodeling the entrance of Tualatin High School were sketched by my coworkers after meeting with the client. Using Sketch Up, I transcribed the sketches into a digital model and created program diagrams for presentations.

Personal Work Mixed Media Sketches Hand drawings done primarily with graphite and black ink.

Castle Sketch Hand sketch with Micron pens that was edited and placed into a background in Photoshop to provide context.
