The semester focused on the development of page composition. I spent most of my time drawing perspectives which relayed a static understanding of space. As my sketchbook evolved I began mixing more diverse composition & mediums in drawings. I learned through the layering of technical drawings, perspectives, & experiential clues that I could convey both pragmatics & poetics on one sheet.

[The Foundation]
My craftsman father, owns his own construction company and has taught me the skills of his trade. The majority of the labor on my families home was through the undertaking of my father, brother, and myself. Our process identified learning and success, measured by the quality of work.

Urban Farm Point Breeze, Philadelphia 3rd Year | Fall 2013 | 12 Weeks Individual Cultural Analysis | Model Experimentation | Program Development
06
Point Breeze is stricken with high crime rates and low graduation numbers. This is related to the disconnect between youth & their parental figures. This projects seeks to reinstate the family dinner as a means of rebuilding this relationship. This provides an opportunity for parental figures to make an impact on their children and strengthen a community.

Transparency In order to share a more dynamic relationship with the local community this urban farm focuses on providing a program which prioritizes honesty through transparency. In the existing food desert, the consumer is disconnected with the processes by which their food is produced. With Honest Foods the community can understand where there food comes from, how it is grown and how they can prepare it for themselves.

Process The early stages of the design process embraced traditional methods of drawing and modeling. The models allowed me to receive real time feed back of environmental forces. The drawings provided me with quick iterations of ideas. As I moved forward I integrated digital modeling as a means of finalizing an expression.

Shavasana Holistic Medicine Clinic | Tornado Relief Shelter Moore, Oklahoma 4th Year | Spring 2014 | 12 Weeks Christian Kaulius, Emma Lindsey, & Matt Ulassin Comprehensive Design| Parametric Process | Landscape Architecture
11
In a span of 25 years Moore, Oklahoma has seen five EF4 + EF5 tornadoes tear through its town. Every time a force of this magnitude strikes, houses are destroyed and residents are displaced. As a response this project works to provide a social center for the local community as well as providing resilient architecture to mitigate the effects of any future disasters.

Parametric Design Process Models and sketches helped develop a formal gesture. Parameters created a code that allowed for a manipulation. Through the input of analyzed data I tested iterations quickly and rationalized an optimal form. Taking the computer model I broke down the optimal form into components and set it to be laser cut. When finished I had a model which replicated the computer vision.

Swarthmore college is a product of the quaker movement. Sustainability, consensus, rigor, & quality are values that were essential to the development in the past and therefore the future. This master-plan focused on preserving this rich history while building towards a progressive future.

Collaboration
The master plan was completed with a team of five architects. This provided a unique situation where the balance of ideas was essential to the success of the whole. As the team captain my abilities to delegate, coordinate, and manage a project efficiently flourished
Learning Process The procession is structured to make the learning process so attractive that learning becomes unavoidable. Curiosity comes First Using the gable form, a relate-able icon, unconventionally. This sparks the curiosity of those passing by making them proceed to the next step. Embrace the Mess This is a multi faceted area which lets you get lost in the chaos. This space is thought provoking and irresistible to pass Practice Reflection As a was to understand and take away from the chaos this space is quiet yet reminiscent of the mess. Roller In-law Suite
David Roller is a contractor by trade and a repeat client who commissioned Phillips & Associates to design addition living space for his home. The program was private living quarters for his parents so the family could look over them during their later years. With easy and affordable construction in mind, Mr. Roller requested that the addition be built out of expanded polystyrene wall construction. While this is not our typical building method it provided a great challenge & learning experience.

Causeway Bridge Bermuda Infrastructure Master Plan
In 2003 Hurricane Fabian brought attention to the much needed infrastructure improvements in Bermuda. The most noted was the damage done to the Longbird bridge, the main connection between the airport and the rest of the island. This plan proposes additions for true infrastructural resilience and modernization of major island arteries.

West Hamilton
The West Hamilton Apartments are nestled within a coral rock face revealing a panoramic view of the bay. The building’s transparent base allows for deep light penetration and an illusion of weightlessness. Through the use of materiality and formal expression the building is given a relate-able human scale
