Through a methodological analysis based on the drawings and diagrams of four buildings, The Unit allowed me to investigate major constructional techniques and building materials, (timber; steel; concrete; masonry) . The drawings include an analysis of the;
Structural system, (structural typology; structural pattern; spanning system; joints + connections),
Envelope system, (envelope typology; construction system; pattern + cladding) and the
Internal system, (materials; internal finishing strategies).
All drawings were produced ‘free hand’, exploring how the hand is an extension of the thinking process a well as a mode of representation.
