For many golf aficionados, the desert heat can’t do much to quench the desire to hit the links. Be careful though and take extra precautions to keep your day fun and exhilarating rather than consumed with a trip to the emergency room.
Summer
Sunburn
As Arizona residents, we’re particularly familiar with the use of sunblock. Keep in mind that if you’re wiping your brow or back of your neck during your game, you’re most likely wiping your sun protection right off. In addition to sunblock, the attire you wear can go a long way in keeping the sun off of your skin. There are many specialty clothing lines that offer golf attire in sun-protective fabrics. Sun-protective clothes have a label listing the garment’s Ultraviolet Protection Factor or UPF. If you haven’t purchased sun-protective clothing, you can wash your regular clothing in a product called SunGard. It is a colorless dye that gives your clothing a UPF defense.
Keep Your Cool & Play It Safe
Heat Sickness
Staying hydrated is the number-one way of staving off heat-related illness. Consume PLENTY of fluids, more than you even think you need. In fact, if you are feeling thirsty, you are already too dehydrated. Keep your body cool with the use of cooling bandanas, cooling vests, cooling
collars or the popular cooling towels made specifically for golfers. Studies have shown that the worst effects of heat are cumulative. So, avoid overheating in the first place or you may find yourself behind the eight ball when it comes to staying cool and hydrated.
Monsoon Storms
Summer thunderstorms can manifest quickly in the desert. If you notice a thunderstorm approaching, it’s prudent to leave the course right away. Watch out for quick wind shifts, rapid cooling temperatures, and increased wind velocity; all signs that a thunderstorm is approaching. If you can hear thunder within five seconds of seeing a lightning strike, you are in a strike zone. Take immediate precaution to avoid being struck by lightning. Put down your golf clubs and remove your golf shoes. Stay away from water, tall objects such as trees and saguaro cacti, and descend from hill tops. Distance yourself from your golf cart and do not use your cell phone. If you’re in a group, it’s better to spread out at least 15 feet apart rather than huddle together. Do not lay flat on the ground but rather kneel or squat to minimize the contact points to the ground. With plenty of precaution, there is every reason to enjoy your game during these hot months. Happy golfing!

Why Listing Now IS YOUR SMART MOVE
“Our June data reinforces that buyers are out in force and serious about finding a home,” says Danielle Hale, realtor.com’s chief economist. Recently the number of homes for sale has plummeted nationwide. The volume of inventory began declining back in May and housing inventory nationwide had dropped 27.4% year over year in June. Here in Metro Phoenix, the inventory dropped 40.2%, according to realtor.com.

Kind People Project
WHAT THEY DO: Scottsdale-based non-profit Be Kind People Project seeks to educate young minds on the importance of equality and acceptance, and teaches children to treat others with kindness, dignity, and respect. Through a variety of programming and services, children learn to apply social, emotional, academic, civic, nutrition, leadership, and character skills to their everyday lives. With The Be Kind Pledge, children are helped to understand what to do to show kindness rather than what NOT to do. The #CyberSkills program offers solutions for cyberbullying and teaches respect and safety while online. The Kind Crew travels to schools to perform in interactive assemblies with the intent to establish relationship guidelines and a common code of conduct. The Be Kind Family project uses the principles taught in classrooms with a hands-on activity for opportunities to apply the values at home. HOW CAN YOU HELP?

“Our June data reinforces that buyers are out in force and serious about finding a home,” says Danielle Hale, realtor.com’s chief economist. “Although the new listings trend has improved, inventory continues to decline, indicating that what is coming onto the market is selling.”
• Donate – Your monetary donations will help in a variety of ways.
Even better, buyers are buying. In a recent survey by Helitech, a foundation repair company, 37% of buyers said they’d “risk COVID-19 exposure to obtain my dream home.”
• Pay it Forward Program – Here, you’re encouraged to download a variety of digital cards with inspirational messages and share them with friends and strangers either in person or through social media.
• Volunteer – There are many ways to give of your time such as materials fulfilment, school programs, community events, contests, internships, fundraising events, curriculum writing, and service projects.
Most of the survey respondents said that while they’d prefer to see the home in person before buying, nearly 35% of those polled said they’d be willing to buy a home sight unseen. Clearly, the desires of buyers to obtain their next home hasn’t been hampered by recent events. With the use of health and safety protocols, virtual tours, virtual open houses, virtual closings, and social distancing measures; home buyers and home sellers don’t necessarily need to put their health at risk to move forward with their plans. Lastly, with mortgage rates continuing to plunge, more and more buyers are able to qualify to purchase your home. So, with supply low and demand high, follow the simple principles of Economics 101 to your home-selling success!

Looking for a way to up your outdoor game and bring in a little “wow” factor? If your front yard, backyard, or courtyard don’t elicit any “oohs” and “aahs,” perhaps it’s time incorporate a few powerful ways to give your areas a punch of glamour. BRING THE INDOORS OUT If your interiors are beautifully designed but your patio furniture is worn and tired or simply uninspiring, refresh your spaces with the same appointments and levels of luxury you have on the inside. No matter if your space is simply a bistro table or it’s a fully designed lounge area or extensive outdoor kitchen, make your outdoor areas “pop” with beautifully woven rugs, lush throw pillows, eye-catching accessories, and artwork. Don’t forget the power of lighting. Set the mood for romance, celebration, or even subdued elegance. FIRE FEATURES No doubt, fire in itself adds an element of drama. Use this natural attention-getter in a variety of ways throughout your yards. From a simple yet cozy fire pit or fire bowl to gathering tables with a contained fire in the middle to stunning displays of fire and water in the pool or in a showpiece fountain, you can take your spaces from so-so to stunning!
POOLS WITH PANACHE Today’s trend in pools tends to be those linear in form with modern geometric shapes and elements. Rather than the PebbleTec-finished, kidney-shaped pools so popular decades ago, these fresh pool designs integrate architectural details and beautiful finishes. Pools today are dressed up with sparkling glass tiles and crushed quartz materials that reflect light, and multi-hued LED lighting that can be changed to different colors to give the entire pool different moods at the push of a button. LUSH LANDSCAPING Perhaps it’s time for a licensed landscape architect to create a seamless, aesthetically pleasing design with plants, softscape, and hardscape elements created to bring the whole outdoor area together with a thoughtful, fluid design. Often, it’s the expertise of these designers that take a space from simply beautiful, to full-on jaw dropping.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has been swirling around us, many homeowners have put their home-selling activities on hold. Perhaps they’re holding out to see how the world events shake out. Perhaps they assume that there aren’t many buyers that would possibly be buying in times such as these. Whatever the case, because so many home sellers have held back from listing their homes, there is a serious lack of housing inventory for buyers to choose from right now.
