CAT Looking To Reduce Carbon Footprint
It was a group of 50 area business leaders that had the opportunity to understand how Caterpillar will be pushing forward their going-green initiative. For many of those who work at the nationally known company, they believe that the vision is to promote a safer and healthier environment, all while still getting the job done. Their goal by 2020 is there will be a zero waste to landfill ratio and by holding this conference; they allowed the public to see what their vision was.
CAT’s Greener Plan Their first focus is substituting their liquid paint to a powder base, because powdered paint does not require a solvent to keep the pain in a liquid form. Their original goal for 2012 was exceeded by 11 percent while 154 of their 180 facilities are reaching up to a 90 percent waste reduction.
Through their recycling efforts, CAT has also saved up to $200,000 during their going green transition. A majority of their tractors and products are completely disassembled and picked out for the usable parts before they are completed melted down. By taking out these re-usable parts that had not gone bad with the other caterpillar parts, the company is benefitting by not producing so much waste.
