prankster’s instructions and pulled the fire alarm. The sprinkler system immediately turned on, covering all levels of the building’s floors with water. So, how did a prank go so horribly wrong? Well, it didn’t go wrong for the prankster who has yet to be identified. The pranker called the hotel around 3:00PM and stated that they were representing their fire-alarm company. The receptionist obviously believed the caller because no one would assume someone would call and pretend to be a fire-alarm company. “The Officer who responded to the scene said in a statement that the man who called said that a single sprinkler head was broken, and by setting off that specific sprinkler… all it took was that single fire alarm” The Officer who responded to the scene said in a statement that the man who called said that a single sprinkler head was broken, and by setting off that specific sprinkler, the other’s would not be triggered – so, they’d need to reset the hotel’s system.
Arizona Comfort Inn Water Damage Costs Of course, after the water damage was caused, the hotel manager called the fire-alarm company who stated that they did not contact the Comfort Inn. All it took was that single fire alarm to cause $15,000 in damages – which will not only require water damage restoration, but most likely mold removal as mold begins to grow within 48 hours of the water hitting the ground.
