THE SITUA By now I am sure you are aware of the ever growing sport of BMX.
The coverage of this sport is constantly increasing and seems to have an
unstoppable momentum. Events such as the X-Games pull in millions of
viewers and fans every year. They cover every aspect of BMX from street
to dirt. But what they don’t cover is a very underground and not very often talked about aspect of BMX.... trails. Trails in general are built on
land the trial builders who don’t own the actual land, thus making it a very hush-hush situation. As a result, you hardly ever see the true nature of this side of BMX.
Northeast Pennsylvania is home to some of the most legendary trails spots. Known the world over for their original ideas, never done before obstacles
and professionals that come out of the area NEPA is often referred to as the mecca of trails.
In the past couple years one of NEPA’s most well known spots went under fire from the landowner, an International Airport. After a couple years,
somehow the trail builders talked the Airport into letting them lease the land as long as they insure it properly for obvious reasons. While this may sound normal it is anything but. This is the start of something
never done before. Legit trails. No more hiding, sneaking or needing to keep the spot hush-hush.
The only hook is that with legit trails comes a price tag. They have to pay
to rent the land and insure the land. So in an effort to pay this bill they are offering something that has never been done before. Access to the trails
for a contest. I’m sure by now everyone has seen dirt jumps on T.V., the
X-Games, Dew Tours any number of events. But what we are setting up is a contest to be held at the most well groomed, innovative and wild spots in
the world. I can guarantee this will be a ground breaking event. Going hand
in hand with the opportunity that has never even been talked about let alone put on the table.
