son. There is a surprise in store when they get to Deepak’s native India. On the other hand, Bitter Seeds from India tells a tragic story about what the failure of GMO crops has done to poor Indian farmers. It takes guts to bring this film, and the two below, to Maui as well. It is a story that needs to be told, one you won’t see on the evening news. Last Call at the Oasis takes a long, hard look at the world’s polluted waterways and the risks we face living with less potable water – a timely lesson for islands. Equally fascinating is Terra Blight, a documentary about the life cycle of the computer, which doesn’t end when you upgrade. My Journey To Wholeness
It’s only fitting that my photo above was taken at the City of Refuge on the Big Island. In ancient Hawaii, losing warriors and commoners who had committed offenses against the ali’i (ruling class) could be completely forgiven and exonerated if they could make it to the City of Refuge, where the kahuna (priest) would absolve their transgressions in a purification ceremony and set them free. For me, it’s a reminder of my own personal journey since 2007 as a “Cancer Thriver.� My cancer was a great wake-up call and a lesson in forgiveness. I don’t call myself a survivor, because I never felt victimized when I had cancer. From writing about cancer and alternative treatments over the past 20 years, I knew that my immune system had made a mistake, and the “creature� (tumor) was but an unwelcome parasite to be invited to leave the host. Treated with everything from chemotherapy and radiation, to shamanism, Hawaiian healing, prayer work, organic juicing and a lot more, the creature miraculously disappeared (to my own and my medical doctors’ amazement)! My return to wholeness left me with a greater appreciation of life, of love and what is important, and what isn’t. How will you find your wholeness? To start, will you give up cigarettes, toxic relationships or reality TV? There are lots of ways. The rewards are immense, and maybe you, too, will become a Thriver. Unity Church Of Maui Attracts A Wonderful New Minister
By Rev. Jill Carl “I have a dream� is a famous line, but for Unity Minister Reverend Blaine Tinsley, this dream has come true. Feeling the stirrings and recognizing that the tug meant it was time to “get moving,� Rev. Blaine got very clear. One day, knowing that moving to Hawaii was his dream, he still made God a promise to go “anywhere you want me to go.� The very next day he received a call from Unity Church of Maui. Looking for a new minister to lead their congregation, they were interested in Rev. Blaine and set up an interview via Skype. Being duly impressed, they asked him to come to Maui in January, and by April he was hired, here, settled, and ready for his first service Easter Sunday. Rev. Blaine comes to Maui with an impressive background. As a theater arts major in college, and after earning his teaching credential, he taught school for five years, including first, second, third, seventh, and eighth grades. After his teaching career, he entered the corporate world and became the regional director of sales for Lipton Tea. Inspired to enter the ministry by Unity Minister Carol Knox, Rev. Blaine completed his studies and became a Unity Minister in 2001. After graduation, he was the Senior Minister at Unity Church of Light in St. Charles, Missouri and then Pastor at Unity Christ Church in St. Louis, Reverend Blaine Tinsley Missouri. You can tell from his first Sunday talks that Rev. Blaine’s messages are deeply steeped in universal metaphysical principles with a solid foundation in the Unity teachings. Unity believes God is everywhere, equally present and all good. The presence of God dwells within each person. Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest realm has its beginnings in thought. Prayer and meditation are the direct link with the mind/heart of God. Knowing the Laws of Truth is not enough. According to Unity, a person must live the Truth he/she believes. Rev. Blaine says he is here on Maui to help deepen his congregants’ faith and understanding and to encourage their conscious transformation through sharing the messages of peace, truth, joy, and love. Speaking with him at an interview at an oceanfront restaurant in South Maui, he shared that he is all about helping transform consciousness in a positive, practical and progressive way. He brings, and will share, tools to transform the way his congregants project themselves in the world by helping them to discover their God-given talents and express them. His philosophy is to “touch, move, and inspire people to be the highest and best expression of God that they can be.� Through fun and encouragement, he helps individuals explore their divine inner child. One of his goals is for the Unity Church of Maui to be a part of and support the community. He plans to do this through his Sunday Lessons with a “Walk Your Talk� handout to take with you, and with classes open to the general public. One of the classes he has planned will help people learn about and explore their relationships. In addition to the Sunday Lessons and classes he teaches, Rev. Blaine is also available for personal counseling. His current office hours are Wednesdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. We Are Complete, Radiant, With Sacred Souls By Liah Howard When I was younger, I read a book called The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein. It is the story of a circle with a triangular gap missing that ventures out to find this piece of itself. At the time, I remember feeling like I was missing part of myself, too. I tried to fill it with my career, my children and my spiritual search. Now, years later, I realize what the book was trying to convey. Thinking that we are incomplete or imperfect is not the truth of our existence. Rather, as the circle discovers in the end of the book, we are already complete, radiant with sacred souls, even if we don’t look “perfect.� In the book, the circle rolls slowly along, finding many pieces that it tries to make fit. But it holds on too tightly and breaks them, or they fall away, or they’re too big. We may find jobs or partners or things that make us feel so good and complete one day, but if we’re using them to fill what we feel deep down is an emptiness in ourselves, they’re bound to fail sooner or later. External fixes can’t hide that secret fear within that we’re not enough. The circle also experiences many hardships on its journey – harsh weather and falling in holes – but it manages to sing along the way and delight in the world around it. We’re also bound to experience difficulties in life, to suffer wounds, but we must recognize that these challenges can’t damage the essential beauty and wholeness of who we are, and that they’re really an integral part of life.
I interviewed an inspirational author on my radio show who had been severely sexually, emotionally and physically abused as a child. I was amazed to learn that she is now traveling the world and uplifting others with her incredible story of hope and healing. Instead of focusing on the terrible things that happened to her and letting them convince her that she was broken, she learned to love herself and to appreciate the love and support in her healthy and happy life. She is married
to a loving husband, has her master’s degree, and leads seminars in self-empowerment for victims of abuse. She managed to find peace within herself, without the external support that most of us believe is so crucial to creating happy, whole selves. We can all awaken to the light of our souls shining within the fog of our life stories. We can remember our wholeness in spite of what might look like missing pieces. Despite what our childhood wounds or shortfalls taught us, despite what society tells us about needing to buy this or that product to be beautiful or happy or complete, we can discover a simple and wonderful truth: we are already perfect, and we can let that realization be a beacon to others. At one point in The Missing Piece the circle finds a piece that fits perfectly and makes it a full circle, but as a full circle it rolls too quickly to see the butterflies, and it can’t sing. So it chooses to set the piece back down and journey on, delighting in its perfect imperfection and its slow roll. As humans, we’re destined to always feel some longing in this glorious, imperfect world, but if we’re lucky, we can sing happily along the way. Smart Meters: A Good Idea?
By Smita Khatri Maui Electric Company, with the participation of more than 100 residents who have volunteered to take part, has launched a pilot demonstration project installing over 100 smart meters in Maui Meadows. Smart meters allow the electric company to “communicate” with your home via a wireless network and this enables the electric company to remotely monitor home energy usage, power outages, and voltage fluctuations. Customers can access information on their daily and hourly energy usage. And the electric company can receive updates about power outages and voltage fluctuations immediately, before customers call in. Although smart meters come with some conveniences, there is growing concern about the health hazards of radiofrequency radiation from them. A citizens group, Stop Smart Meters Hawaii, is educating the public and circulating a petition to stop smart meters here. The group highlights a recent position paper released by the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM), which called for “immediate caution” regarding smart meter installation due to potentially harmful radiofrequency exposure. The AAEM concluded that “significant harmful biological effects occur from non-thermal [radiofrequency] exposure,” including genetic damage, reproductive defects, cancer, neurological degeneration and nervous system dysfunction, immune system dysfunction, and kidney damage. The World Health Organization classifies radiofrequency radiation as a Class 2B carcinogen. This dialogue extends beyond smart meters. Smart meters would increase our exposure to radiation in a world in which we are constantly exposed to radiation from common household and personal electronic items. Concerns about privacy are also surfacing in this dialogue. Smart meters have the capacity to closely monitor and create detailed records of household energy use. Become Consciously Intimate
By Ed Fell While sitting in meditation some years ago, and while wallowing in self-pity at the demise of a relationship, I experienced a spiritual download that I call the Lovers Codes. These 15 Codes are a series of agreements and understandings of how intimacy works and are foundational for conscious relating. One of the Lovers Codes speaks to the necessity of ‘attending to and supporting our mutual evolution.’ In early-stage relating, both are in a bliss state of idealization and mutual worship. Idealizations eventually break down as unresolved issues arise.These conflicts surface in order to offer opportunities to heal. Anyone in long-term relationships knows and must navigate this challenge. How do you merge (move towards each other) while moving towards individuation (moving away from each other)? While most simply ignore, deny, evade or create some strategy to circumvent the relationship potholes, wise couples will lean into the issues to learn and heal, eventually mining the gems hidden within the conflicts. If both do not individuate, you undoubtedly move into co-dependency – a kind of ‘I’m OK only if you are OK with me.’ Or worse, ‘I’m not OK if you don’t love me in the way I need.’ If you do individuate towards wholeness, there is a fear that you will move away or your partner will leave you – the abandonment dilemma. Now, here is the great Truth: for intimacy to work, both must move toward individuation and independence. Only then will each bring the best of themselves to each other. The gifts of one will support the evolution of the other. Attending to your partner’s evolution enhances your own. My Journey Into Life Between Lives
By Barbara Ensign Cht. Did you ever wonder, “Why am I here? What is my purpose? What are my soul lessons? Who is my soul mate? Is there life after death?� Although I had performed many past life regressions in my work as a hypnotherapist, it wasn’t until after I read Dr. Newton’s book, Journey of Souls, that I began searching for a way to take people to that very special place between lives. I had the opportunity to meet and train with Dr. Newton and I am now able to take others to that most wonderful place. Let me share what I experienced in my personal Life between Lives journey. Imagine being taken back to the end of your most recent past life and hovering above the death scene. As an objective observer, I view my body, say my farewells and then I begin to feel drawn away from the scene. Pulled higher and higher I move toward a large light. The light seems to move toward me as I move toward it until we intersect. It embraces me, wraps me in a welcoming blanket of love and reassurance. I receive this love from my guide and a welcoming back to the spiritual world. Before I know it, I am being guided to a place of healing and rejuvenation. There are beautiful, natural pools of crystal clear water where I submerge myself and feel the love and rejuvenation. My next stop is before the Wise Beings or Council. I am overwhelmed by their unconditional love. The message comes loud and clear, “You have done a good job.� My life’s lessons and patterns are shown to me in a very loving way. This will help me to live my current life in a more meaningful and conscious way. Next, I am taken to a wonderful gathering place where I am united with those souls with whom I have deep and lasting connections. It is a joyous reunion of souls and I receive personal messages from each one What a different perspective this gives me about some of my relationships! Next I am drawn to a place where I am being prepared to come back to earth. It becomes clear that, although much more has taken place in my time in the spirit world, I am to begin to return my journey home. Back to the present time, back to my present body, bringing with me all of the wisdom and love I have just experienced. My life will never be the same. What a journey it has been! To Love Life Fully You Must Love Its End By Bodhi Be A whole and healthy life includes its death. It is true, there is no death. We are all the Buddha, Jesus, Pure Awareness, Holy Spirit, The Infinite Radiant Is, or whatever name you give to that which is beyond all names. It is true; there is nothing we need to do. My experience, understanding and insight confirm this is so. And, here we are right now about to breathe our next breath, reading this with as much awareness as we are capable, in a body that will surely die. You might use a different word: pass, transition, change of address, ascend, etc. Look around in the natural world where life and death dance together continuously, death feeding life. We will all die from the same thing – the failure to inhale. To love your life fully you must love its end, its death. You will die and you don’t know when. Everyone you know will die, your marriage will end, your career will end, your friendships will end. Most of us think we will die in the distant future, likely with an unconscious notion of ‘entitlement’ to at least 80 years, and might think, “I’ll just ‘deal with it’ when I get there.� Most everyone who will die today had no idea yesterday that it was their last day. How you use this information will determine your ability to live fully, whole-heartedly and in a sacred manner, starting now. It may be the most powerful spiritual transformation tool you’ll find. To live otherwise is to live with a ‘hole’
rather than ‘whole.’ To live in aversion, denial and avoidance of our approaching death can only lead to ‘life-phobia’ – the inability and unwillingness to be fully alive, because to be fully alive requires an honest and living relationship to our approaching death. A ‘seat at the table.’ Try it on: breathing in, ‘Death is inevitable,’ breathing out ‘I too, will die.’ See what happens to your breathing, your thoughts. See if some version of ‘spiritual override’ kicks in. It’s a form of denial and avoidance.

Here are some other parts of this ‘hole:’ Many of us have moved our residences a number of times, or have never been grounded enough to feel ‘at home’ in our bodies or on this earth, consequently many of us feel homeless. Witness how we often relate to nature, and ‘the environment,’ as ‘out there,’ how often we feel separate and alone. Too, many of us have lost any real connection to our ancestors, witness how when someone close dies, we often say, I lost so and so - how did we lose them? This leaves many of us as orphans and homeless, craving something we often call ‘community.’ This ‘hole’ in our beingness leaves us desperately hungry and needy. Without acknowledging this hole, we will continue to ‘consume the earth,’ being hard on the people around us, and all other life, even when we’re all recycling and driving electric cars. My experience, understanding and insight confirm this is so. Acknowledging and befriending the hole is another important step towards wholeness. May you live a deep and holy whole life filled with service to all, and may you die on a good day. As we transition through 2012, many of us understand this basic truth and possibly see glimpses of our true destiny, our alignment! It only takes a moment to see how fragmented our nation, world, even community are to understand how fragmented we are as individuals. My blessing may be as simple as “Bless this food,� or elongated to include a myriad of requests (bless all those we love, near and far, bless our evening ahead, etc.) These moments in time serve to remind me how fortunate I am to have sustenance, to not have to go to bed hungry, to have a choice about what I ingest, and when, and that I am able to earn the money to pay for my food. I am grateful for the many blessings in my life, and I appreciate them in the moment, for circumstances and situations can change in a heartbeat. Tune To Your Heart For Transformation By Gina, LMT Pope John Paul II once shared, “The worst prison would be a closed heart.�  In all of my thousands of hours of training in transformational bodywork and with all of my mentors, teachers and shamans, the single most important tool that I have ever learned is the power of heart-centering. This tool has been of great benefit to me, both personally and professionally. Mastering heart centering in my personal life has allowed me to receive the supporting energies that are always available to assist me, allowed me to hear and perceive information differently and thus communicate in unparalleled ways. When I work with clients in my profession, I am constantly heart centering them to help them perceive their patterns differently. When a person isn’t heart centered, they are actually fighting themselves. This means that they are fighting the changes since they can’t receive the depth of the transformational bodywork that is being offered. In his book, Joy’s Way, A Map for the Transformational Journey, Brugh Joy teaches the need to continually strive to master heart-centering. Brugh said with beginning students you teach them to center at the heart; with intermediate you teach them to center at the heart and with advanced, you still teach them, again, to center at the heart. Brugh teaches there is a way to communicate with the deep-body soul-connected place inside each of us. In Brugh’s Triad Theory, he teaches that the body and the soul are always connected and that it’s our minds that pull us out of that connection. By tuning to
the heart center, you can shift from the mind and allow the transformation process to occur. My mentor, Conrad Satala, holds a master’s degree in pre-clinical psychology and is an initiated Tz’utujil Ajkuun (Mayan Shaman, one who carries the staff of the Rilaj Mam). He teaches how this transformational heart process opens us up to perceive our bodies in different ways. It is not just a psychological change, but also a physiological change as well. You begin to get in touch with the true wisdom in your body and that’s the key to wholeness in your body. With

a foundation in heart-centering, transformational bodywork can release the patterns that are actually trapped in the body, which then allows the body, mind, emotion and spirit to all come together and align in wholeness. Porn Widely Misunderstood By Dr. Sonia Borg Pornography has become more and more accessible, and therefore prevalent in the last few decades. But even with its increasing prevalence, it is still widely misunderstood. Most of us grew up in a sex-negative society that automatically categorizes pornography as bad, dark, or ugly – something we don’t want to look at. If it is not acceptable to talk about the issues, it’s easy to see how a lack of education and awareness can easily turn into fear of the unknown. Pornography is simply defined as the depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual arousal. Erotica read in romance novels is also a form of pornography. The difference is pictures versus words. Seen this way, pornography can be a tool for an individual or couple looking to add titillation or excitement to their lives. Sometimes, pornography use becomes a compulsion. Compulsions are self-defined, meaning that it’s only a problem if the individual thinks it’s a problem and it gets in the way of proper functioning in their lives (work, relationships, etc.). Often, it is someone else who has the problem with the individual’s use of pornography. Interestingly enough, people who condemn pornography are often projecting their own shadows onto others in an attempt to mask their own unresolved or repressed desires. Ideally, we would all be well served to see sexual dysfunction, or any issue really, as an opportunity to cultivate more understanding, practice awareness, love, intimacy and a greater connection. That is my approach to healing and the spirit in which the sessions take place. By Constance Hart Did you know that color heals? Color is energy, so anytime that you are exposed to colors in your daily life, you are affected by their energies, whether you’re aware of it or not. Most people are unaware of the physical and emotional benefits of color energy, but when you consciously connect to color, a whole new world of metaphysical harmony opens up to you! Each color is a wavelength of white light (sunlight) with a particular frequency that affects your body/being in a unique way. Your inner being will actually crave particular colors from time to time based on its need for the energy benefits offered by that particular color vibration. If you think about it, as a hue-man being living on earth, sunlight is truly your dominant energy source. So an easy, enjoyable way to maintain balance with that white light source is to tap into the energy of individual colors. Turquoise is the color frequency that matches your high-heart center, an area of internal energy that lives between the heart and the throat. Physically, it governs the healthy functioning of the thymus gland, affecting the production of white blood cells that help to strengthen your immune system. I Was A Teenage Geek!
By Judy Levy When I was 16, I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. Surgery was needed to attempt to reduce my curvature, my pain and to prevent arthritis of the spine, which would have made my body hunchback. Blessedly, we found a brilliant, beneficent, holistically-oriented surgeon who gave me the greatest lesson of my life. Dr. Joseph Risser was a kind, yet direct physician in the highest sense of his profession. We all believed he was in his late 40’s when we met him. Because of his health practices and the goodness he shared with so many, he looked much younger than his biological age, which was really 72! After the surgery, Dr. Risser told me to expect to spend 8-10 months in the full body cast, from my chin to the base of my hips. As a junior in high school, this was quite devastating, but I knew it would give me a healthy adulthood. A Journey To My Destiny
By Maluhia Zorzi As childen growing up here in Hawaii, or even being part of Hawaiian ancestry, we are taught the Hawaiian value of kuleana. Kuleana means responsibility, but also standing behind what you believe. I believe that my destiny was chosen while I was still in my mother’s womb. In ancient times each ‘ohana (family) had a lomi lomi (massage) or la’au lapa’au (herbal medicine) practitioner they would see for healing. I believe my destiny is to be the healer within my ‘ohana. A few years ago, I found myself sitting in a circle at Hale Ho’omana led by Jeana Naluai, who was launching her first Lomi Lomi Apprenticeship Program. As we went around the circle sharing our mo’olelo (stories), I learned that one of Jeana’s kumus (teachers) was my Aunty Mahi whom I had witnessed do amazing healing and bodywork on kupuna (elders) as well as makua (adults). I knew in my na’au (gut) that moment that I had found my destiny and was on a clear journey to the next chapter of my life. Hawaiian teachings instill us to be pono, to be clear in our own paths. As part of our apprenticeship program, we take many huakai’s (fieldtrips) out in nature. The one dearest to my heart is Wailua, Keanae. On this outing, we give back to the land as we kokua (help) in the lo’i or taro patch. At the end of the day, we gather at the bottom of Wailua where the fresh water stream meets the kai (ocean); here we collect our ‘ili ‘ili (stone). This journey is very personal for each individual as one must ask each ‘ili ‘ili if it would like to be used for healing work. As a Lomi apprentice, this journey for me is a foundation that I will one day pass on to my children. Triphala, An Ayurvedic Miracle
Healing Support With Lasers

This herbal formula can be used every day of your life to tone your digestion and balance your elimination. Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal formula consisting of the three most important herbs for balancing and toning the five elements. The word triphala literally means three fruits (Amalaki, Bibitaki, and Haritaki). This compound is primarily used as a bowel toner and mild laxative. It is considered non- addictive and very beneficial to the digestive tract. As it balances all five elements, it is used for other conditions besides chronic constipation. These include liver cleansing, gastro-intestinal tract toning, nutritional absorption, sluggish peristalsis, kidney health, cholesterol balancing, increased circulation, respiratory ailments, and cardiovascular health. It also improves vision, decreases conjunctivitis, improves hair, prevents early aging, enhances immunity, clears the mind, and nourishes the tissues. Become Healthy Living From The Inside Out By Maribeth Theisen I love the story of Dr. Hew Len, who closed down an institution for the criminally insane just by repeating this Ho’oponopono (the ancient Hawaiian healing system) prayer over the files of each patient: “I love you; I’m sorry; Please forgive me; I love you.” The story illustrates my understanding that everything we experience is a reflection of our inner consciousness. In order to change your experience, you must change your consciousness. On Maui, we hold much beauty within ourselves to experience such splendor every day. Yet like people who live anywhere else, we suffer because of argumentative friends or partners, excess weight or physical illness, or larger issues like war and bad economic conditions. We think that if we change that person, or body, or the political structure, we will have a different experience. Dr. Hew Len would say that these occurrences are the result of memories and beliefs in the subconscious mind (the unahipili) which, when cleared, will help you to align with the divine mind (the Aumakua). The conscious mind (the uhane) will perceive a different reality when all aspects of the mind are in alignment.
All problems begin as thought. But having a thought is not the problem. The problem is that all our thoughts are imbued with painful memories – memories of persons, places, or things. The intellect working alone can’t solve these problems because the intellect only manages. Managing things is no way to solve problems. You want to let them go! When you do Ho’oponopono, Divinity takes the painful thought and neutralizes or purifies it (and releases it). So, there is a brand new state. These principles also govern hypnotherapy where the client is guided to the core belief or initial event that, though long forgotten, gives rise to the issue or problem, eliminates it, and connects the client to the superconscious or divine perspective. Ayurveda And Inner Balance
By Uma Gal The inner winds of our being relate to our minds and can be a reflection of the outer winds of nature revolving in and around us. These elements of nature live deep within our physical, mental and emotional selves. According to Ayurveda, if the winds within us get too high, we call it an elevated Vata condition. It is expressed through anxiousness, fear, dry skin, digestive gases, constipation and lack of sleep. Why the dry? Think about it. For example, when the winds blow harder and stronger outside, and you have clothes hanging out to dry, they dry much faster. This is the same for us internally. The more winds that blow outside, the more dried up we become inside. As a result, our minds can feel more agitated, and we can get spacey and feel ungrounded. Sound familiar living on Maui? What can Ayurveda do to balance these winds inside of us? Apply more oil to your head and body. The best oil that will deeply penetrate is sesame oil for the cold months and coconut oil for the hot summer days. The heavy quality of these oils will help to ground you, and as a result, calm your nervous system. Applying nasya oil is particularly beneficial since the nose is the seat of prana, the bridge that links breath from mind to body. By applying oil into the nose, this calms the mind, opens the senses, esp. the sinuses, and assists with allergens. It protects us from toxins. Therefore, applying oil to the head, nose and body can protect us from the free radicals we breathe in on a daily basis and create a sense of peace within. Stars’ Path To Wholeness
By Eliza Bassett The changes anticipated in December 2012, which have caused various levels of fearful expectation, may have created a focus on an erroneous astrological event of the Winter Solstice eclipse. There is a huge push from two planets. which offer us amazing chances to shift sooner this year. Everything from mental perspectives, emotional states, housing, work and relationships may be released, changed or transformed. This includes the vibrations carried from impacts brought by difficult prior experiences. It is time to jettison this baggage! Since most of us are striving to become healed, these upcoming events may bring unexpected opportunities to claim wholeness. Currently Uranus – the planet that offers radical electrical change when moving through our lives – is making a ‘creative conflict’ aspect of a square to Pluto. This latter planet (astrology still assigns it that value) brings deep and total transformation. Scientists discovered Pluto in the year the atom was split, 1930, thus astrologers tie nuclear energy and the ‘wiping the slate clean’ effect of those bombs to Pluto’s areas of influence. Thereby, we have radical, unpredictable change and deep transformative change in a conflicting relationship to each other. These two will meet in this conflicting aspect a total of seven times between 2012 and 2015. The root of this square is when these planets made a conjunction in the mid-1960’s. Late 1965 and twice in 1966, they merged and the revolts against decades-long conventional mindsets were underway. Major legislative changes, which some are railing against today, were anchored then. Thus, this is a time of great tests and trials of those ideas and actions seeded then. Meditate! A Constant Tool
By Rev. Debbie Dehm When I think about the tools I have used to help me on my journey through life and when I learned each one, I would have to say that the most consistent help has been meditation. When I was 12 years old, my family vacationed in Tennessee at my aunt and uncle’s home on a lake, which might sound like fun but there was nothing to do at their house. One day I found a small paperback book on transcendental meditation in my uncle’s bookcase. I have no idea how it got there because it was not something they would typically read. I think my angels must have put it there for me to find because I read it and taught myself how to meditate. I would sit cross legged, perfectly still for hours and stare at the lake, or with eyes closed just listening to the sounds of nature all around me. I’ve used different kinds of simple meditations for years, whenever I was stressed or needed answers to my questions. I did breathing, guided, walking, and staring at candles - all kinds of meditation - until someone introduced me to the Ishaya’s Ascension. When I was about 32, a friend suggested that I take a class that she said would change my life. It was called the Ishaya’s Ascension. The Ishaya’s teachings helped me to stop worrying, to feel my connection to the divine most of the time, to not judge if something was good or bad. It taught me that I need not suffer with others to have compassion for them. The meditation techniques helped me release stress from my nervous system and gave me more peace. By Michael Pascoe, D.C. There are 10 trillion cells in the body. Each cell processes up to 10,000 bytes (10KB) of information per second. How does the brain perceive, interpret, and respond to so much information? The answer is the living matrix. There are tubes, antennae, and receivers embedded in every cell membrane, literally connecting the inside to the outside and to every other cell, through electromagnetic (EM) frequencies. In fact, the cell membrane itself is arranged in a strikingly similar fashion to our radio telescopes designed to pick up very faint EM signals from space. EM signals can carry vast amounts of information at the speed of light. Our cells’ molecular design indicates that EM signals, as a vital element of the living matrix, are important for both cell function and proper function of the entire body. Visible light is one frequency that we actually see. There are light receptors in our skin, and these cells respond to the daily cycles of light and dark, helping to regulate our sleep/awake cycles known as circadian rhythms. Paddling My Own Canoe
By Rev. Lavenda Schaff It’s worth it! I had an opportunity recently to reconnect with my old singing teacher, Rhiannon. I found her improvisational training was quite different from what I had experienced in a similar group setting 15 years ago. It was so much fun and satisfying to feel grounded, calm, wild and sensitive. Yet this time I listened to and courageously explored the different facets of singing without experiencing negative mind talk or low self esteem. Reflecting back over the years, I could see that I had gone through a great transformational journey on my path to wholeness. On the ocean of life, my soul had navigated me to various islands of great life experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant. Supported by the Hawaiian ho’opono pono and the teachings of lomi lomi, I had learned to paddle my own canoe. And by discovering some unknown ancestry, I had also healed hidden traumas and received inspiration to live my life more fully. But most importantly, I had started to love myself and all of the various parts of me – the good and the bad! In my training with Rhiannon, I saw that for my life and my singing, this pilgrimage I had taken was all worth it. The ability to let my voice unfold to more of its natural beauty and strength had increased immensely and it felt like I was harvesting my latent talents. I enjoyed every moment of improvising, singing and voice expression. Improvisation is like our life’s journey. It requires listening, following our inner voices, moment by moment – trusting, moving, daring the journey to wholeness to unwind. Exploring Celtic Traditions
By Ruth Brown Ancient Celtic Traditions reflect a belief firmly grounded in the earth, nature and that each of us is a powerful, power-filled individual. In a one day workshop we look at the ways that we can hold and use the gifts that the universe has given to each of us as our human birthright. Celtic Tradition believes that every human being has been given a reservoir of personal energy and what we do with it depends largely on what we know. We make choices – consciously or unconsciously and how to take responsibility for it is a basic Celtic teaching. Power is often shunned as something that is “non-spiritual.” That may sometimes be the case, but power in the Celtic tradition is how we use our own energy for whatever purpose we may choose; how we use it defines it. One of the core beliefs of our Tradition is to “Cause No Harm.” In fact, we are often the guardians and helpers for those in need. The word magic often brings strange ideas, but magic as used in the Celtic Tradition is “using energy to make something happen.” We often don’t claim it, but the ripples of the energy we invest go out into our world and our universe and create change. This is magic. The Celts were extremely close to nature and, connected to their personal power, they used the power of the earth, the sun, and the elements around them to live a life both strong and harmonious. There was a power and strength that seemed to flow out of the very ground itself. And they were right – the earth was and is a powerful ally – even here in modern day. Journey To Compassion
By Sheridan K. Hailley At times when I feel overwhelmed, I have learned that I am being unkind to myself in some way and that viewing myself and my thoughts with compassion is the key to less stress. I empower myself when I recognize that my inner thoughts need to change first and foremost, rather than the external situation. As I reconnect with compassion, I feel a softening in my body and an inner smile. “Shouldsâ€? and other judgments are suspended. Busy thoughts are replaced with a clear perspective that comes from a place of stillness and neutrality. With the help of a compassion practice, I have learned to go deeply inside and bring to light old patterns of thinking that cause me pain or distress. Recently, I found myself hurrying through my day and losing touch with how I was feeling. When I fully appreciated how uncomfortable I felt in my body, I recognized that old thoughts – “shouldsâ€? and misguided expectations of myself – were impacting me. Here is a powerful practice for such a moment: When you first notice your thoughts racing or you feel overwhelmed, tune in. Feel the impact on your body as intimately and sensitively as you can. Recognize the need for compassionate self-care. Breathe in all the way through your body, allowing worries or judgments to be touched gently by this new breath. As you breathe out, let go of harsh thoughts and soften‌ahhh! Smile gently upon that part of you that felt overwhelmed. Let your inner smile guide you to choose your next, more compassionate thought. Check in with your thoughts often. Appreciate their impact on you, and remember to soften. Practicing compassion in your thought habits can bring delicious new life into your body. Healing The Healer
By Nicole Rose A Course in Miracles, a book that came out in the 1970s, speaks of the “unhealed healer,� one who has not fully undergone the treacherous journey of healing himself, yet seeks to heal others. If we are still struggling to find our own way, how can we know the way for anyone else? As healers, many of us find ourselves facing this question. The course also explains that we teach what we most need to learn. We teach spiritual, emotional and physical freedom because it’s what we want most for ourselves. We are overshadowed by the feeling of our own desperate need for wholeness. We need healing the way we need air and water. We yearn for self-realization - the unbroken peace of one resting in Divine Consciousness. A Course in Miracles is one of many gateways leading to the great transformer within. It remains true and consistent throughout, asking us to walk with unshakable conviction. The Intelligence Within
By Jane Eldridge Shortly after returning from a two-week meditation retreat in 1979, I received a phone call from my doctor. He said that I had to have surgery the next day. I had no symptoms and yet pre-invasive cancer was diagnosed. He said there was nothing I could do to heal myself alternatively. He said, “Many women have tried with no success� and “If you don’t have surgery, you will die.� I went to the hospital to make arrangements, but then a booming voice from within said “Don’t get surgery!� It was so convincing that I told the nurse I had changed my mind and I would tell my doctor. This very helpful voice guided me to a sublet in the country by the ocean. I was also guided to teachers, healers, and a good friend who taught me about a raw food diet. I drank wheat grass juice, grew sprouts and received colonics. Through breath and energy work, I cleared out a lot of unresolved emotional baggage. Old and new friends supported me every step of the way. Nine months later, I received the tests results from my new doctor. She said, “Whatever you are doing, keep it up; I’ve never seen such healthy tissue!� Even though this was a challenging experience, I feel grateful for this very powerful transforming journey. And even though I had explored many alternative healing modalities, I also feel that my meditation practice was the foundation of my healing success and opened me to listening to inner guidance. My meditation teacher calls this inner knowingness, “the intelligence within,� that is ready to help and guide us every step of the way on our own unique paths. Re-dreaming Your Life
By Nancy Friedrich Our lives are not unlike the heroes and heroines of the classic myths. In myths, the main characters typically start out on their quests as young, good looking, strong and may even have experienced some amazing success or good fortune already. As life unfolds, they, like us, face various obstacles and trials that must be solved before they are allowed to progress to the next life gate. They may have nearly died, become isolated or faced an intense challenge of some kind. Unhealthy habits or addictive behaviors may have been used as a distraction during long periods of recovery. One day, our hero wakes up realizing that the visions of his life dream have nearly been forgotten. Hope has been lost. Our mythic hero has become dispirited. However, when the despair has been felt long enough, it becomes boring and we get tired of indulging it. This condition gives birth to motivation and a re-dreaming of the life that is wanted, if we support it. It is essential to accept our feelings and ourselves in order to use that spark of motivation ignited by discomfort. Acceptance is acknowledgement. Acknowledging the issue, even naming it starts the detachment. There is a saying, “If you can name it, you can change it!� Being authentic is a form of personal strength, maturity and dignity. It empowers us. This is not only for the characters in myths. As we practice acknowledgment, it is also good to recognize what our gifts and talents are - what we are naturally good at. What are the contributions we have made or are in the process of making? Healthy self-regard empowers us to live our mythic dreams, to be the hero/heroine, and to use our gifts to offer something to the world and then live happily ever after. The End. My Awakening Journey
By Sa’arah Felix During my childhood, I just ‘knew’ things, and I had an imaginary unicorn friend. As a teenager, I had many amazing experiences, but I was told that I was stupid and a dreamer – that this was nonsense. This created internal turmoil, self-doubt and mistrust. I gradually stopped listening to those negative insights and, at some point, I really needed to know who I was. I just wasn’t like most people and couldn’t be, even if I tried. My quest led me to astrology, healing practices, energy-harnessing practices, seminars. And later, I remembered Hawaii, where Spirit called me in 1997. While still living on Kauai in 2007, I received a clear vision to create my own tarot cards. Wow! This has taken a lot of commitment and years of time, even though it has felt timeless and amazingly shape-shifting. While designing and painting each card, I explored myself deeply, shedding layers of mental and emotional baggage and gaining clarity and truth. Whenever I worked on the cards, I was expressing the feelings and insights that I had received; I felt an invisible energy surrounding me. Later I was told that I infused high consciousness energies into the cards and, therefore, each one was a gateway that held information to be experienced and unraveled. The Ascended Masters, especially St. Germaine, were guiding me to create these cards, but mostly they were guiding me to discover the answer to my childhood question, “Who Am I?� This was my amazing journey - connecting with the Masters, higher principles, expanding deeper and deeper into my multidimensional awareness, and discovering my deeper self. Astrology Shows Us Tools
By Paul Six Astrology is about the solar system inside us and the cosmic energies that flow through us. Opponents of astrology persist in arguing that an astrological chart, also known as the horoscope, does not match the actual picture of the location of the constellations of stars in the sky. They claim that astrologers in the western world are working with a model that is 2000 years old and is no longer a valid picture of what is ‘out there.’ If someone wishes to argue against astrology, talking about the constellations does not fortify their arguments because there are no constellations. The stars we see grouped together in clusters are actually far apart from one another and, since their light takes thousands of years to reach us, they may have burned out by now. Western scientists do not use the stars to locate the position of the planets on any given day; they use mathematics and physics. The signs of the zodiac are not the stars; they are segments of space representing fields of various energies and thus make different manifestations possible. They are the same energies that make each day, week, month and year different from any other of its kind. Astrology is a symbol system. When studied, learned and put into practice, it shows us the tools each of us has been gifted with to live a meaningful life. The self-acceptance and the self-love that grow from a willingness to embrace our souls’ chosen destiny, as communicated by the patterned arrangement of the horoscope, can then be reflected back to us from a world that appears as an increasingly benevolent one. Something Was Missing
By Shalandra Abbey Going around with the thought that something is missing in your life is not a comfortable feeling – especially when you haven’t a clue what that something might be. I had it all – a good job making more money than I ever thought possible, a wonderful husband pouring in even more bucks than I was. We were healthy and happy. He drove the Cadillac and I had the sexy little sports car. We owned a gorgeous home on the third hole at Doral Country Club and the boat in Key Largo. What could possibly be missing? I had gone through society’s check list and nothing was missing. One day a friend said to me, “Shalandra, I can tell this ‘what’s missing’ thing is really starting to bug you; why don’t you make an appointment for a Reiki treatment?� Huh? What is a Reiki treatment? “Trust me,� she said, “and you just may find your answer.� Well, not only did I find my answer to what was missing in my life, this Reiki treatment introduced me to an entirely new world of unlimited possibilities to explore. I had no idea such a world existed right there, all around me, in my old world. Finding Sexual Healing
By Judith Shivani Davis In my work in the field of sexual healing, I often hear two issues. First, there is a desire to heal old wounds that might be in the way of joy and, second, they want a beloved partner to share their new found wholeness with. Sexual wholeness is our divine birthright as evolved human beings. I propose that our own journeys toward a healthy sexual sense of self and our ability to be in a successful relationship are intimately connected. Many of us have had traumas that contributed to the underdevelopment of our healthy sexual selves. When I began my journey toward wholeness, I approached it by way of a deep psychological process, spiritual searching, and somatic healing. Later, I stumbled into the world of sexual healing and it instantly made sense to me that if my wounds were sexual in nature, then sexual healing would be the most direct path to wholeness. The benefits of maximizing pleasure, feeling more alive and experiencing life in the present are worth the walk through the shadows that stem from past unhealthy sexual experiences and wounding. For those of us healing from sexual wounding, taking steps to heal the feeling that love is ‘risky business’ is a central piece of the work. At a certain point when you feel safe, and your ‘story’ has finally been told, safety dwells within and you can start to take steps toward the marriage of love and sex. This is when spirituality and sexuality connect, and intimacy becomes the ‘vehicle’ you use to move toward each other and the divine. It was this journey of sexual healing that led me to the place where I can really be fully present in my life as a loving partner to another and a responsible soul/spirit on the earth. Shining Light On Your Hidden Shadows By Beverly Marie Bright Shadow can be best understood as those parts of us that act out in our lives in sometimes less-than-admirable ways, ways that don’t match with how we want to see ourselves. They are the hidden elements of our psyche that carry great amounts of pain and act out beneath our level of consciousness. We commonly find that when their pain (fear/anger/sadness, etc.) is acting out in the world, it is attacked, shamed, guilt-tripped, or blamed. Anything is done to shut it up, or control/repress its behavior, and any uncomfortable truth that the behavior points to. Any of these events individually repeated (though usually in combination) actually become the oppressing catalyst that drives these parts of us underground, into the unconscious, into the shadows. We cannot heal our shadow until we can understand why it hurts and acts out in the ways that it does. To do this, the healing arena must be safe, full of permission, and held in invitation. To feel and know your deep truth, safety is the first quality needed, as it is the most fundamental requirement for real change to happen. No real, deep work can proceed without it. It must be safe to feel truth and our truth may be embarrassing to admit out loud or impossible for the mind to understand. Safety is created and best expressed by this mantra: “No Harm, No Shame, No Guilt,
No Blame.” We must not harm, shame, guilt, or blame any part of us for its truth. It must be safe for us to allow this up and to reveal our darkest inner places, to address feelings like hate, revenge, desperation or hopelessness out loud. Permission is also critical. Permission to be (for the first time in forever) an honest, open, very real, uncensored expression of truth, whether that truth is pain, sadness, fear, anger, etc. For this reason, permission is utterly intertwined with safety, and at its facilitated best, the honest open expression of true feelings (even those based on ideas, misunderstandings, etc) are not only allowed, but welcomed. We want to hear their pain and are strong enough in our desire for truth and in our love for ourselves to hold a space for their healing. Invitation comes last because safety and permission must be established first. Safety and permission open the way for these buried places to show themselves. We have gained their (inner shadow, inner child, or sub-self parts) attention, and built hope and trust that it is safe for them to be here – to show themselves – and then the invitation can come. We begin calling their attention to what is most true now. Calling them forward to come to this moment, out of the trance of the past, out of their armored ideas, positions, and agendas, out of their pain, their rage, their terror, and their grief and into the wholeness of what they have not known in forever - true care, honest
answers, loving energy, forgiveness and support, and the truth of who they are. These beloved wounded places in us are welcomed home, home to truth; home to being, home to love, and they are set free from their pain. How To Recover A Rejected Other Dear Paulo, My husband and I have been separated for four years. We have seen each other on and off. I have always been the one to walk away from the relationship each time. Recently, I have experienced a huge karmic kick in the butt. I have tried to make amends with him and have apologized profusely. He has basically rejected my suggestions to try again and work on our marriage. I know we love each other still and I do feel him around me. Where do I go from here? - Monika Dear Monika, A bruised heart (and ego) takes time to mend. You were the one to walk away from the marriage, and more than once. But how many times can you reject someone and expect them to come back? Perhaps your husband has developed some trust and abandonment issues! It hurts like hell to give a partner chance after chance, only to be hurt again by repeated rejection. Perhaps he has reached his limit and has made a resolution to stay away, to avoid getting hurt yet again. He may feel very skeptical about your ability to ever accept and appreciate him the way he is. Are you willing to go beyond apologies and make amends, to deal with that karma you
mentioned? Is there anything you can generously offer him—at least symbolically—to make up for what he’s gone through? No matter how heartfelt, ‘sorry,’ is just too easy, and not enough. Try adding “and what can I do to make it up to you?� and hope that he will actually give you something to do (within reason) or agree to something you suggest. This is a way to make amends, if you are serious, if that’s really what you want to do. It is possible that he could give it one more chance, if you are persistent and vulnerable and truly love him, which means focusing on his needs and feelings. At the same time, please be gentle with yourself, and try to be realistic without giving up hope while you make your slow, steady effort. If there is any hope
of salvaging the relationship, it may take a while to show your husband how committed you really are to creating a renewed future together. As the I Ching is fond of saying, “Perseverance furthers.� Try a few different approaches; perhaps one will eventually convince him that you are sincere. Tell the truth regardless of how painful or embarrassing it may be. You cannot rebuild a relationship if there are secrets, lingering misunderstandings, or lies that remain between you. Your truth is really all you can speak to. Only if you avoid thinking of him in terms of the past, is it possible that you can get a fresh start. Don’t be too hard on yourself if things take longer than you’d like, or even if they go nowhere at all. If all signs point to the final end of the relationship in any intimate form, let go of the past and false hopes for the future. Let yourself mourn what might have been and the loss of the dream the two of you once shared. Perhaps by becoming free of the confines of marriage, you will have more energy and time to apply these lessons to new opportunities that come your way. Flying Yoga ~ The Yoga Of Bliss
By Meenakshi Angel Honig I have been practicing and teaching Integral Yoga for nearly 40 years. When I first started teaching, yoga teachers were few and far between. Now, over 20 million people practice yoga in the United States alone. From the age of 16, I was fortunate to learn yoga directly from the Yoga Master Sri Swami Satchidananda, who was ordained by Sivananda of Rishikesh, the founder of Integral Yoga International. Integral Yoga is comprised of six branches: Hatha, Japa, Bhakti, Jnana, Karma and Raja. It is designed to harmoniously integrate the mind, body and spirit. It is a complete science for optimal well-being and self-realization. I recently discovered Flying Yoga, which uses all the same principles as Integral Yoga, except it involves practicing with a partner. Partner Yoga brings a whole new set of dynamics into play because you can use the weight and leverage of your partner to enhance your stretch, strength, balance and bliss! It involves listening not only to your own body temple, but also that of your partner. It involves communication and teamwork; it sparks creativity and synergy! In Flying Yoga, as seen in the photo, there are bases and flyers. The flyer balances his or her abdomen or back on the feet of the base. Wherever one applies pressure, it brings blood, which brings oxygen, which brings prana – the vital life force energy to that area. When my partner presses his feet into my sacrum, which is sacred because that is where the kundalini energy is stored (symbolized as a coiled snake), it creates a gentle heat. That helps to kindle the kundalini energy to spiral up the spine to illuminate the higher centers of consciousness. When the Shakti energy from the base of the spine spirals up to the crown chakra at the top of the head, it unites with the Siva energy which causes the Amrita or Divine nectar to be released. This can be experienced as an endorphin shower of bliss. Hence, Flying Yoga is the Yoga of Bliss. This bliss can also be experienced in solo yoga through diligent and consistent meditation practices, combined with ethical living and a vegan diet. I have found that Flying Yoga simply expedites and amplifies the process. Perhaps this has something to do with the biblical statement, “When two are more are gathered in His name.” Bliss is our very own true nature – what works to access it varies from person to person. My beloved teacher Sri Swami Satchidananda said that any practice that brings benefit to someone and harm to no one is Integral Yoga. The bliss does not end when the feet reach the ground – it is integrated into everyday life. I find from the practice of Integral Yoga, Flying Yoga or any Yoga, that I become more present, mindful, centered and peaceful. This state of consciousness is then brought into whatever activity is at hand, whether preparing a meal, washing the dishes, making a bed, driving my car, etc. When I am more present, I recognize that everything I do is Partner Yoga – I am in partnership with everyone and everything that I am interacting with including myself! I even notice that I am doing Partner Yoga with the other drivers on the road, and all roads lead to bliss sooner or later. May we all abide, glide and enjoy the ride! Towards Sexual Wholeness
By Amrita Grace Sexual healing begins with accessing and releasing the emotions stored in the body. As you allow the layers to emerge, information and guidance will be revealed to you that will show you your own personal path to wholeness. Following are the three key ingredients to accessing emotions: 1. Breath - breathing deeply helps allow those emotions to surface, be felt, and be released. The natural reaction to difficult emotions is to contract, which has the effect of making the breath shallow, effectively keeping the emotion buried. Expanding into the emotion may seem counter-intuitive, but it allows the emotion to wash over you like a wave - peaking, crashing, and receding. 2. Sound - making sounds bypasses the mind and allows you access to a more primal aspect of your being. If you can give a sound to an emotion as you feel it, you can speed up and supercharge the release. Take the intensity and volume up as much as you can. Make sure you have a safe space for making sounds first. 3. Movement - were you ever allowed to have a tantrum as a child? Kids know how to move energy fast, and once they do, they are done. Dance your joy, stomp your feet with frustration, shadowbox your anger, wail and rock your head with sadness. Be safe, make sure you don’t hurt yourself or anyone else, and breathe. The secret to success is to combine all three. Breathe, feel, sound, move and breathe. Allow it all to wind down in its own time, and then notice how you feel in your body, in your mind, and in your emotions. Be sure to allow some quiet time for integration afterwards. Power Of The Darkness
By Mary Lane We cannot know our wholeness without knowing our darker selves. One side of us feels powerful and wonderful, while the other can feel quite frightened and debilitated. We often swing back and forth between the two. It can be confusing if we don’t understand the power and benefit of entering into the darkness. For many on a spiritual path, there is a tendency to believe that we are all working hard to just move toward the light – we are working toward that time of all joy when everything is in harmony, in balance and happy. But when things come back into harmony there will not be a loss of darkness. We will simply understand its place in our lives and in our world. We will come to peace with the darkness. It naturally works in a way that is already in harmony. It is the periods in our lives when we face our dark places that we illuminate more than the “good,� expanded times. It is the darker times that have truly opened the doors to the depths and heights of our being. It is because of those times that we are able to fully express the selves that we are. Learning to love ourselves because of our darkness, not in spite of it, is the key. The journey of falling in love with this part of us, as deeply as the expanded part that is in the light, supports our wholeness. The whole reason we have gained the wisdom and possess gifts to offer the world is because of everything that has happened — including the wounding. Each second, air passes through 600 million tiny sacs inside of our lungs. We couldn’t be truly ‘still’ if we tried. On a personal scale, our lives are filled with the movement of thoughts, emotions, relationships and life transitions. On every level of existence, we cannot avoid the Principle of Motion. To the ancient, indigenous people, this principle was a doorway to expansion. Instead of trying to manipulate, still or suppress this natural phenomenon, the Ancients allowed their consciousness to become one with the motion itself. In the words of my teacher Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, “Should the pattern of your thoughts come into a similar rhythm with your heart, and your heart rhythm with your breath, your emotions with your sense of feel, taste, smell and hearing, you then experience a break-away of old concepts and old patterns. All things, functions and thoughts will certainly move into a new space of accelerated conscious continuum.� As we put our powerful attention on the rhythms within our sphere of existence, we arrive at the threshold of potential alignment with all that surrounds us. Like life, this alignment is fluid – always shifting and changing, with our consciousness at the Center. If we can embrace the Principle of Motion, staying in fluid contact with ourselves at the most intimate level, we can open to authentic ‘flow’ and simply move with what is.
