Doni Maulistya was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia 1987. He is a very young artist with a passion in visual art and visual storytelling. He lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He decided to drop out from photography department – Indonesia Art Institute - Yogyakarta in 2008, then to be chosen as a participant in Angkor Photography Workshop in Siem Reap - Cambodia (2009) and Foundry Photo Workshop, Istanbul - Turkey (2010).
Started his artistic journey as a photographybased artist. He started to question his position as an artist in the society that is continuously in a dynamic negotiation between “the old and the new�. He see the negotiation process as an identity formation process that will always happen in the human history. He also realise that a medium is not a sole artistic language. Therefore, he expand my exploration on photography as well as on other media beyond photography. Thus, in making artworks, He always interested in doing themes such as the history, tradition, and dialectic dimensions between the old and the new.
