MEHRINGPLATZ TIMELINE The square lost its former meaning and lay neglected and cut-off until the fall of the wall in 1989. Become a centre of trade and commerce, a business area in the centre of Berlin, loosely encircled by high rise flats and thus free from crossing traffic.
1st named Rondell after its circular shape by the Prussian King “Friedrich Wilhelm I.” who initially decreed its construction, together with the Brandenburger Tor and the Potsdamer Platz. Formed the first triangle encompassing the old Berlin.
Mehringplatz 1979 1960’s – 1970’s redesigned by Hans Scharoun and Werner Düttmann., Baroque inspired style. However, when the Berlin wall was built in 1961, heralded what seemed to be the definitive separation of the two parts of the city. 6 Lane street passed through, linking 2 parts of the city until 1961.
Rondell 1750 Following the victory over Napoleon it was renamed the “Belle Aliance Platz” and rebuilt in the style of the Piazza del Popolo in Rome. Its used to be one of the most important and most beautiful places in the City.
Mehringplatz 1947 The Belle Alliance Square was later classified as an area that had suffered “total destruction”. In 1947 it was renamed after the Communist-Socialist publicist and historian Franz Mehring.

WORKSHOP PROCESSES – MODEL MAKING
Detail model shows section we chose to express showing the ground levels activation of space by creating, community social spaces , that would help enhance interactions amongst each other. Smaller scale would have been more effective.
Project involved expressing our ideas in physical model form. Our idea followed making models with childlike concept in mind incorporating our stakeholders interest of space interventions.
1st wk was a workshop week where we brainstormed all our ideas as a group to create proposal, sharing trips experience and gathered information.

“Our models ended being a bit unclear. Colors chosen were a bit confusing when they had different functions. Detail model was also overwhelming, but city and neighborhood complemented each other”
This scale shows our plan of boundary within our proposal. Looks at surrounding schools/institutions and open fields used by children.

EXTERNAL INTERVENTIONS
TIMELINE STRATEGY– EXTERNAL AND INERNAL INTERVENTIONS
INTERNAL INTERVENTIONS
Changing The Sub-urban Perception Of The Neighborhood Perspective shows our proposal to make the center ring suitable to the cater to needs of different age groups, especially the young, within the community. We keep the functions it being a residential block but add offices, community/public centers to make he space accessible by all. Make use of dead space within and surrounding the building to re-appropriate it. This will allow both internal and external re-activation to implement each other, and enhance use and experience of the area.

REFLECTION Design process
The project took proposal for the project took place in 3 weeks which was very short compared to 6 week previous time schedules. Work was quite intense an exhausting, but we managed to create our proposal. We tried to achieve all that was required.
Site
Site visit was a good experience to learn things about site on a 1st hand basis. We explored the site as a group using pre-planed methods ( mapping, gathering traces, photography, interviews). Considering the language barrier we were able to get lots of information, however not much from the local community as we desired.
Group work
The work was quite intense and feelings did get intense once in a while due to different ideas, but made sure agreements were reached as a group. We also agreed on overall work and proposals and split different work loads amongst ourselves. Overall it was an enjoyable experience working with my team.
