bio and background I’ve been creating drawings since I was a child, but, professionally, I am involved into the visual work since I was 19, by that time (2001-2002), I also began improving my talent in other disciplines like contemporary dance, theatre (coursing classes and working in a theatre company, 2001-2003), singing (in a choir group, 2002 and 2004) and working as assistant for a fashion designer (2002-2007). I studied Graphic Design in EDCOM (Design School of ESPOL, in Guayaquil, Ecuador) since 2005, taking my graduating seminar (advanced digital illustration) in 2008. Since 2003 I’ve been participating in local art contests and preparing personal projects in studio. In 2008 I was invited to exhibit my work in Sanghai Biennale at the International Students’ Exhibition.

In 2010 I did come back into the performing arts work, taking again contemporary dance classes and a workshop of anthropological theatre during 4 months. I was invited to participate in an international project (cultural residence) in Alanya, Turkey, where, with other people from 16 different countries, I did participate in an outdoor photograph exhibition. Actually, I colaborate with a theatre group as designer and performer. I make cultural and artistic photograph, and also interested in the graphic research, lately beginning cultural research about the milenary ecuadorian societies for applying that knowledge into my graphic work. I am the director of a project that will use that research results for creating stuff for performing arts. Also, I share my time into the visual arts creation and working as an independent graphic designer for commercial and cultural purposes.

{*some free works } Some artpieces have been created as individual works, but sometimes it happens that, running the years, some of them are high valuable for other future projects I begin. I try not to focus on the material but in the theme, the final product depends on the research I make. I use to work in pieces as sculpture (using recycled paper), posters, graphics, 2D characters... The works I show in this book are made in different time of production (2002, 2007, 2008, 2010)

This project began in 2006, and it is a ‘long-live’ project for using graphics in other future projects. I work this in-studio and doesn’t have a commercial objective, but the research is about to find new iconographic compositions in my searching for new visual ways of communication. The work is made by hand, using positives and negatives, and different kind of colored-textured paper. 12
GRà FICA PARA LAS MASAS (graphics for the mass) is a project that takes that name this year (2011) using different art pieces that I’ve been creating from 2003. The objective of this project is to create different kind of pieces for people, concerning problems into social, cultural and political issues. Inspired in the cultural and social resistence, I create this for making people to wake up the conscience about our actual problems. The process includes the production of postcards and posters from the main art pieces for cultural and commercial purposes. 14
InspiraciĂłn Ancestral is a graphic research project that includes handmade creation. The research part is focused in the practice of free graphic creation using ink on paper, combinated with historical-visual research about milenary ecuadorian societies (Valdivia, Chorrera, ManteĂąo, and others). The practical part is about to use that research on different kind of stuff for using in performing art projects and for other cultural purposes.

This mask was created in a performing art project from a workshop of anthropological theatre. The mask is used in a performing show of ThamĂŠ Teatro de Artesanos (theatre group). This creation is also used as a part of the visual research for InspiraciĂłn Ancestral.

These photos are from the performing art project of THAMÉ TEATRO DE ARTESANOS, a theatre group. Nowadays I colaborate with them as designer and performer. These are some images of the exhibition in MAAC (Museum of Contemporary Art), in Guayaquil, Ecuador. I was performing in some scenes, so not all the photos were made by me.
