Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It is also one of the most photographed days as well. Having a professional to handle hair and makeup will not only ensure that your hair and makeup will look amazing in photographs and throughout the day, but will also help your day to remain stress free, since, generally, you start your day with hair and makeup. Someone who specializes in bridal hair and makeup understands different styles of hair and makeup, and knows how to handle all lengths and textures in case you have a diverse bridal party. We also know how to take care of the bride when she's starting to feel stressed or anxious. Lastly, since timing is key, the right stylist will help your day to run smoother, and will keep each service on track.

How do I decide on an artist to provide beauty services for my wedding?

Finding an artist with a proven track record is important. Ask your artist to view her bridal portfolio to see if her style might be compatible with yours. Also, be sure to check for reviews on your artist's website, as well as other wedding vendor websites. Lastly, set up a time to meet for a consultation with your artist.

This is the most important part of choosing an artist since this person will be working so closely with you on such a personal event. Be sure that your perspective artist's personality, ideas and visions clique with yours.

How soon in advance should I book a hair/makeup artist for my wedding?

ASAP! Dates tend to book quickly, so to ensure that you will have beauty services for your special day, it is recommended that you book as soon as you have chosen your date. This way, you will be sure that you and your artist are on the same page, and have plenty of time to work out the perfect look and all of the details for your special day.

How do I book M.A.W.Beauty for my wedding?

Well, we're so happy that you'd like to work with us! Once we determine if we are available for your date, we require a non-refundable retainer of $200, which will be applied to your balance. We also require a fully completed and signed contract. Then, and only then, will your date be reserved. For your convenience, contracts are sent via email, and can be completed and signed electronically. Retainers are processed via the credit card on file within your contract. We do not accept personal checks. If you should place your retainer prior to returning your contract, please be aware that we only allow a grace period of 5 days post sending the contract to hold the date, and if both items have not been returned within those 5 days, the retainer is considered forfeited.

Do I need to know the location where services will be provided when filling out my contract?

Yes. In order for us to give you an accurate mileage fee, as well as an accurate balance, the location where we will be providing services is necessary when filling out your contract. We do understand that this location may change during your planning process, and if that should occur, the location and fee may be adjusted.

I’m not sure how many people in my party will want hair and/or makeup services done. Do I need to know this when filling out my contract?

In order to schedule your wedding properly and book the right number of artists and amount of time for your bridal party, an estimated number is required when filling out your contract. If you are unsure of how many people will be wanting services, it is best to just book services for the bride, and have a head count of services within 2 weeks of reserving your date.

How many weddings does M.A.W.Beauty do in one day?

In most circumstances, Melissa, the owner, will do only one per day. However, if timing permits and she is able to do more than one, she will. Melissa has also created an ever-expanding team of in-house trained, licensed professional artists, and is able to book them on weddings if she is unavailable.

Can M.A.W.Beauty handle larger bridal parties?

Of course! If your bridal party is on the larger side, just let us know! Our team can handle parties of any size!

Will you come to the location where my bridal party and I are getting ready?

Of course! Our team of licensed hair and makeup artists is able to service on-location and destination weddings to style you and your bridal party.

Do you charge a travel fee?

If the location where you will be getting ready is within 10 miles of our Lincoln, RI studio location, travel is complimentary! Anything outside of 10 miles, a fee of $0.60 per mile, both ways, will be charged and added on to the balance of your total party. Contact us for a quote for your location!

Are there any other fees that I should know about when booking my wedding?

For the convenience of our brides, whether booked in-studio or on-location, a gratuity of 20% is included in our Bridal Beauty Packages. Gratuity is not included in pricing for the Bridal Entourage, but is graciously accepted. Additionally, if we are travelling to your location, the bride may be responsible for paying tolls, and parking if they should apply. For weddings in which we have a start time before 6:00am, a fee of $100.00 per artist, and $50.00 per each assistant will be assessed.

Will you come on location for only the bride?

We love pampering our brides, and can definitely come on location for just the bride! The minimum wedding day rate for Melissa or an M.A.W.Beauty Artist to come on location is $300.00, which is covered by booking bridal hair and makeup services, or can be made up of any combination of services.

Will you come on location for just one member of the bridal party?

Certainly! Please be advised, though, that our on-location minimum is $300, and even if your service total does not equal that of the minimum, the on-location minimum for whom you are booking with will still be charged.

Can my bridal party and I get wedding day hair and makeup services at your studio?

Absolutely! We will gladly rent out our space to you and your bridal party for the time that you need. Since we will not be taking other clients during your time, we do require a $500 minimum to reserve the studio.

When choosing this option, we will provide you and your party with juice, water, and coffee. You are more than welcome to bring champagne and snacks to the studio. Let us know if you're interested in that option!

Is a preview really necessary?

We believe that the preview considered an essential part of your bridal beauty experience, and include them in our bridal package pricing. If you have not secured your wedding date with us yet, the rate for a Hair and Makeup Preview is $150, or $100 per service. Coming in for a preview is your chance to create the perfect look for your wedding day, and also give you the opportunity to get to know the artist who will be working with you throughout your planning process and on the day of your wedding.

We schedule 1.5 hours for each service preformed during a preview (ex. Hair or makeup only will be 1.5 hours, hair and makeup will be 3 hours), and ask that you bring in photos of looks that you love and might want to try, as well as photos of looks that you don't love so much, that way we know what you do and don't like. Also, if you are coming in for a hair preview, be sure to bring in your veil, headpiece, or hair accessories so that it can be worked into your style.

When should I schedule my preview?

We recommend that you schedule your preview about 1 – 3 months prior to your wedding date. If your preview is scheduled too early, you may decide to make changes in your look that actually might require a second preview, so in order to have the most accurate look for your wedding, scheduling it a bit closer to the actual date is best.

What do I need to know to be prepared for my preview?

We ask that you come in for your preview with clean, product free hair, and a clean, makeup free face.

Your hair should be washed 1 – 2 days before the actual appointment date, depending on your hair type, as “dirty” hair styles better than freshly washed hair. Please be sure that your hair is fully dried before coming in for your preview to avoid an additional charge for a blowout service. If the style that you are wearing for your wedding day is a blowout, we will wash your hair in our studio, or you may come with freshly washed, damp, product free hair. For hair previews, please bring your veil or headpiece that you will be wearing on your wedding day, along with a few photos of the hair and/or makeup styles that you’d like to try.

Is the preview included in the bridal hair pricing?

Yes, when booking a Bridal Beauty Package, the preview is included in the cost of the package. If you would prefer to have a preview prior to securing your date, there is an additional fee for the preview.

Do you offer discounts for larger parties?

No, we do not offer discounts. Our competitive pricing for the bridal party is per person, which enables us to customize services and accommodate the budget of any party. Pricing is non-negotiable.

What if I need to add or cancel services before my wedding day?

Our brides are able to cancel services no later than 5 days after the date of signing the contract. If services are canceled after 5 days from the date the contract is signed, the bride is still responsible for the payment of 60% of the cancelled service. In order to ensure that your wedding is staffed properly, a head count must be given no later than 30 days post signing the contract. Additions can be made up to 5 days prior to the wedding day, however additions depend on our availability and timing. Any services that are added must be paid at the time that the service is added, and will be charged to the credit card that is on file.

What products do you use?

At M.A.W.Beauty Hair & Makeup Studio, we use various product lines, and offer vegan-friendly and gluten free options. Some of our favorite cosmetics are Artistry Skincare, Arbonne Cosmetics, Dinair Airbrush Makeup, NYX Cosmetics, Makeup Forever, Urban Decay Cosmetics, and Stila Cosmetics to name a few.

For hair, we love Aquage, Kenra, Sexy Hair, and Paul Mitchell.

Do I need to have anything set up for you when you arrive for my wedding day services?

Nope! We will arrive 15 minutes prior to your service start time so that we can set up. The only thing that we will need is a space to put our tools and products, outlets to plug our equipment in, and a chair for you and your bridal party to sit in while receiving services. We will bring all of the products, tools, and equipment required to get the job done, and all you need to do is sit back, relax, and look beautiful!

Does your studio only cater to brides?

Of course not! We love our brides, but we still service clients for services such as blowouts, trims, Hair Treats Hair Extensions, makeup applications, and waxing. If you’d like to book an appointment, please let us know!
