Is the Pug the Right Dog Companion for You? The pug is more of a decorative dog than a companion. Most of dogs have been bred for activities such as hunting, herding and later rescuing and safeguarding. However, the pug's only purpose is to bring smiles and provide love. This breed is one of the oldest known, with evidence of its existence dating as back as 400 BC, but since then pugs have been living in royal families and castles. These dogs bring much joy to their owners and if they get enough in return, they live a healthy life.

A pug is considered a toy dog. With 25 to 30 centimetres in height and weighing from 6 to 8 kilograms, these dogs are the biggest of this group. Pugs are fawn and black in colour. Fawn coloured pugs come in a variety of coloration from apricot to silver and have a distinguished mask-like colours covering their mouth, nose and ears. The black pugs are usually solid black and have a white mark on their chest. Maybe because they are lighter or maybe because of the mask they have, the fawn pugs are favourable by most of the buyers. The coat of a pug is soft. These dogs lose a common to most of the other breeds amount of hair which is not hard to clean. The fur around the ears is smoother than the rest and many people compare it to velvet.
