Includes Advice for Seniors Applying to College! At Home Workouts! And more!
THE WARRIOR
ISSUE 29 VOL 3
DEAR FELLOW SENIORS (PART 1 OF 2) by Kerry Yoon
Apart from trying to keep up with school work and not catching senioritis, there is one other big thing lingering around many of our minds:
1. Maintain a balance between school,
college applications. We are nearing
college applications, and other

than ever being online—we sit down at
to universities, and others will be pressing submit in the following months. As I wait for decisions in December and plan to submit more applications in January, here is some advice that I have gathered throughout the application process. I have not mastered the art of living stress-free, but I hope that my words help lift some of the pressure we might be feeling. For those of you who are still applying:

Teachers are trying their best to adjust to this new online learning world, but they also need to stick to what they know best: assigning work—lots of it. After school is over at 3:15, we need some self-care time: napping, exercising and spending time with loved ones always helps.

teacher, but if a friend asked me to recommend them to a university, I would like to have about a month to build the most compelling case possible. That said, if a teacher decides not to write you a letter, respect their decision and ask somebody else. The same concept applies to MK: ask and remind; if you have a question regarding your transcript or credit fulfilments, email MK; if you do not know where to apply based on your GPA and potential major, email MK; if you are feeling hopeless about not getting in anywhere and need a motivation boost, set up a meeting with MK. She is probably the most intimidating faculty member at school, but apart from family, nobody else wants to see our acceptance letters more than her. 3. Most importantly, apply to schools that you will genuinely be happy to
First, I saved a lot of money. If I had decided to apply to 18 schools with an application fee of $70 each, that is $700 more than applying to eight schools that I see myself attending. My mother will thank me for that because I will have memorized the first eight digits of her credit card rather than all 16 by the time I finish applying. Second, I spent more of my time writing essays for universities worth my effort rather than unenthusiastically writing a prompt about my favorite word or saying. I understand that not applying to a lot of places does limit our options. So, if you have 20 schools whose merchandise you will be willing to buy and wear, then go for it. In my case, I could be rejected by all but one university. It will sting, but I will represent the one that took a chance on me to the best of my abilities. Yes, even my safety.
attend. I will use myself as an example. Initially, I planned to apply to 15-20 schools like the high schoolers on YouTube that post their reactions to their decisions and end the video with "I should not have applied to all of these schools."
Come back for December's publication for advice on what to do after you have applied. Good luck!

Canadian and American Thanksgiving By Franco Galasso

Festivities fall on a specific day of the year
Holiday falls on the fourth Thursday of November.
The festivity was changed due to the gathering of Canadian harvest —which happens before the American harvest.
Holiday revolves around the fall harvest.
The festivity was established after the completion of the American harvest.
Side dishes like Jiggs’ dinner, split-pea pudding, and butter tarts originate in distinctive provinces.
Turkey is the main staple on both countries
Side dishes like sweet and mashed potato, stuffing, cornbread, cranberry sauce, and Pumpkin pie comprise the thanksgiving meal.
It is an official holiday everywhere except for three provinces. Therefore, many families celebrate the day before.
Considered an official holiday
It is an official, nation-wide holiday.
Held in Ontario, the Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade not only celebrates Canadian Thanksgiving, but Oktoberfest.
Professional football games are televised in both countries. Both also broadcast their respective parades
Held in New York City, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is funded by the department store.
Canadians don’t travel or shop on Thanksgiving: their equivalent to Black Friday occurs on December 26th — known in Britain as Boxing Day.
Both have a dedicated day for discount shopping. A day when prices decrease and smiles increase.
Plenty of traveling and shopping occurs with Americans the day after Thanksgiving known as Black Friday: historically, a day of many discounts.

LEARNING YOGA ONLINE EXERCISES by Christian Miron With gym centers and wellness studios shut down all over the country and the government is asking people to stay inside, people are working out inside. What are some good types of exercises you can do to stay motivated? Yoga is one of those activities. Now is an ideal opportunity to find a mix of physical and mental activities to do with your friends through online platforms such as zoom and Google Hangouts. What is excellent about yoga is that you don't need to be an expert to do the exercises. Regardless of whether you are youthful or old, overweight, or fit, yoga has the ability to quiet the mind and reinforce the body. Try not to be threatened by yoga phrasing, extravagant yoga studios, and confounded stances. Yoga is for everybody. That’s why we encourage you to do it with your friends and family while in quarantine, here are some yoga poses you can do at home, Cobra Pose
This back-twisting posture can help reinforce the back muscles, increment spinal adaptability, and stretches the chest, shoulders, and mid-region. This post is incredible for fortifying the back. Keep away from it: If you have joint pain in your spine
or neck, a low-back physical issue, or carpal passage condition. Adjust : Just lift up a couple of inches, and don't
attempt to fix your arms. Tree Pose
Past improving your balance, it can likewise reinforce your center, lower legs, calves, thighs, and spine. It's extraordinary for chipping away at your equilibrium and stance. Maintain a strategic distance from it: You might need
to pants this posture on the off chance that you have a low circulatory strain or any ailments that influence your equilibrium. Adjust : Place one of your hands on a wall for help. Corpse Pose
Calm, relaxing, unmoving yoga pose called the corpse pose is to just calm your mind, relax for a moment, calm your mind and let all your worries just go away for even just a movement. This is as simple as it gets on your back and stays there for as long as you can. Maintain a strategic distance from it: You want to be
in the most comfortable spot so maybe yoga mat or just floor with your most comfortable clothes. Adjust : You can put on a blindfold.

GOOD NEWS STORIES By Gianna Phillips
LGBT Firsts in US Government: The first Non-binary Lawmaker in the US has been elected in Oaklahoma this November. LGBT people have and continue to face discrimination in the US government, but on November 3rd, the country achieved many firsts in welcoming LGBT politicians into office. One of these talented politicians is Mauree Turner, a Black Muslim person who identifies as nonbinary won a seat in Oklahoma’s state legislature. They are now the first proudly nonbinary lawmaker in the US, let alone the state of Oklahoma. Another important first in this country is the welcome of Sarah McBride, a thirty-year-old openly transgender woman. McBride won a sear in the Delaware state Senate on November 3rd, making her the first proud and openly transgender state senator incountry, and the highest-ranking openly transgender elected official. In addition, Tennessee’s general assembly has gained two openly LGBT politicians; Torrey Harris and Eddie Mannis.
This is an especially important feat for Tennessee as they have never before elected openly LGBT candidates as state representatives. This is far from all of the many new LGBT politicians that were elected or reelected this November, and this is definitely a step in the right direction for eliminating LGBT discrimination in the country. a vital role in ending the acute phase of this pandemic worldwide,” said Dr Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
Covid - 19 vaccine
The COVID -19 virus has been ravaging many communities this year, and the vaccine has been seeming out of reach for so long. Many thought we wouldn’t receive a vaccine until 2022. Earlier this November, a US company, Moderna, released that their vaccine is now 94.5% effective. After multiple studies have revealed promising results in treating the virus, Moderna plans to apply for emergency use authorization. Gavi, the vaccine alliance, has received over 2 billion dollars from European countries in order to aid low-income or and underdeveloped communities. We are incredibly grateful for the support received so far.
