REORGANIZATION February 15th - March 7th
I choose ‘’Alarm Clock’’ as the topic that I want to analyze. The inner space is really complicated, with wires, motor, cloumnar objects and lots of big and small elements inside.
I cut the clock, finding the inspiration. Different section will see different elements.
6
I see the different section as the different vision. You can see only the vision on the special site, just like the different section, you can see different elements.

The only entrance into the space.
I choose the stairs and platform on the third floor as my base.

I try to found the similarity between clock and basement, trying every kinds of mapping.
I regard the plan as the same significance as the alarm systems. The population will be influenced by the only entrance, like the alarm will start shaking because of the motor.
I use mapping to creat a circulation, from the inner space to the ouside space.
The Imagination of my Complex Model
12
Concept Model I design the geer, which symbolize the connection between inner space and outer space. I use walls to emerge the space.
Official Model I design two seperated space, with only connection on the top of the space. The geer that I designed can do a quarter rotation, that makes the space connect with each other.

Learn From Master Louis Kahn Esherick House March 7th - May 9th
Louis Kahn (1901-1974) Modernism Proponent (1870s-1960s) Influence the Postmodernism (1960s~) Architect Kahn created a style that was monumental and monolithic; his heavy buildings for the most part do not hide their weight, their materials, or the way they are assembled Characteristic Kahn envisioned the house as an institution, like church, city hall or museum Kahn’s houses, predominantly constructed from and furnished with wood Kahn was inspired by the simplicity of Shaker furniture and interiors
1959-1961, Commissioned by Margaret Esherick Time Four alternating served and servant spaces Two-story living room occupy Spatial organization Windows and shutters, different from that of the other three sides ─Privacy and Protection against the weather

Longitudinal Gap Horizontal Connection

Servant spaces Bathroom and Bedroom
Served space Kitchen, Dining room and Stairs
Prominent served space Two-story living room
This is the first model I made for the second stage. First, I use the light to cut the shape. Then, I analyzed the different depth of the window can give people different feelings and the relationship between environment and inner space.
Process Model When I was operating at the beginning, I didn’t consider the quality of the light inside the space.

Material Research Bamboo is a soft material. It can become strong to be structure. So I weave the bamboo at first, see how it goes. I bound two sticks together. Between two fixed joint, I use a stick to file open the space.
After finishing this first model, I was thinking of combining two steps into one.
Four Different Joint Then, I thought of designing a joint. I can decide the length and width for the use. As the form changes, it can influence bamboo and starts to get hard and bring out shapes like wave or create spaces.
48
Later, I create a way to naturally bend the bamboo and use the method, joint, to connect each bamboo unit. I bound four sticks together, and I found out that it will naturally surround a space with large amount units.
