JAMES KIRKWOOD (Book) was a Broadway and television actor as well as half of the the comedy team Kirkwood and Goodman before taking up writing. His novels include There Must Be a Pony!, Good Times/Bad Times, P.S. Your Cat Is Dead!, Some Kind of Hero and Hit Me With a Rainbow. His nonfiction books include American Grotesque and Diary of a Mad Playwright: Perilous Adventures on the Road With Mary Martin and Carol Channing about the road tour of his play, Legends. Other plays include dramtizations of There Must Be a Pony!, P.S. Your Cat Is Dead! and UTBU. James Kirkwood passed away in 1989.
NICHOLAS DANTE (Book) Real name: Conrado Morales. He danced in the choruses of Applause and other Broadway shows as well as various TV shows and nightclubs while pursuing his dream of becoming a writer when Michael Bennett, a friend, called and asked him to collaborate on the first draft of the book for A Chorus Line. The final result earned him a Pulitzer Prize, a Tony Award and many other honors. Seesaw (which he also wrote and directed). In 1973 he made his debut as a dramtic director with EDWARD KLEBAN (Lyrics) A Chorus Line Twigs which starred Sada Thompson. A Chorus was Mr. Kleban’s first Broadway musical, and his Line, which he conceived, choreographed and lyrics won 1975 Tony, Drama Desk and Olivier directed, won nine Tony Awards. In 1976 he and Awards as well as the Pulitzer Prize. He died in the other authors of A Chorus Line were awarded 1987 at the age of 48. Mr. Kleban’s music and the Pulitzer Prize for dama. In 1979 he produced, lyrics comprise the score of the musical A Class directed and choreographed Ballroom, which was Act, produced on Broadway in 2001, for which nominated for eight Tony Awards and won Mr. he was posthumously nominated for a Tony and Bennett his sixth Tony. WHO’S WHO BOB AVIAN (Original Co-Choreographer) recieved Tony Awards as co-choreographer of the original production of A Chorus Line and for Ballroom, on which he also served as coproducer. He was also the producer of the highly acclaimed Broadway and national companies of Dreamgirls. Bob choreographed the London production of Follies, followed by the London and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon and Sunset Boulevard, receiving two more Tony nominations. Next was the Boublil and Schönberg musical Martin Guerre, for which he won the Olivier Award for Choreography. He choreographed Putting it Together Off-Broadway starring Julie Andrews and on Broadway starring Carol Burnett. Returning to London he choreographed The Witches of Eastwick for Cameron Mackintosh. BAAYORK LEE (Restaged Directon and Choreography) has performed in a dozen Broadway shows and created the role of Connie in A Chorus Line. As Michael Bennett’s assistant choreographer on A Chorus Line, she has directed and choreographed many national and international companies including Klagenfurt, Austria, Santiago, Chile, Hollywood Bowl and Pace University. Her directing and choreography credits also include; The King and I and Bombay Dreams (National tours), R&H’s Cinderella (NYC Opera), Barnum (Australia), Carmen Jones (Kennedy Center), Porgy and Bess and Jesus Christ Superstar (European tours), Gypsy and A New Brain. She has also choreographed shows including: Miss Saigon (KC Starlight), Mack and Mabel (Shaw Festival), Animal Crackers, South Pacific (Helen Hayes nominations), Coconuts, Camelot, and Damn Yankees all at Arena Stage in Washington, DC. Through her nonprofit organization, National Asian Artists Project, Baayork’s vision includes educating, cultivating, and stimulating audiences and artists of Asian descent through the many programs the company offers. The organization has produced classical musical theatre shows such as Oklahoma!, Carousel, Hello Dolly!, and OLIVER! with all Asian-American casts. NAAP has made audiences more aware that talent goes beyond ethnicity. Most recently, Baayork Lee was the recipient of the 2017 Isabelle Stevenson Award. Ms. Lee was honored for her commitment to future generations of artists through her work with National Asian Artists Project and theatre education programs around the world.
PETER PILESKI (Associate Director) most recently was associate director on the Hollywood Bowl production of A Chorus Line starring Mario Lopez and Robert Fairchild as well as on the London West End revival and at the Klagenfurt Opera House in Austria. He previously was assistant director on the hit Broadway revival and on many national tours. He assisted director/ choreographer Bob Avian on Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard and Follies (London). Off-Broadway credits include An Evening in Bloomsbury (Gene Frankel Theatre), Romeo And Juliet (starring Judith Jamison at Rubenstein Rep) and HMS Pinafore (Village Light Opera).
