A WELCOME FROM OUR PRESIDENT Welcome back to MPAC! We are so happy to see you here again. I hope that you and your family are well and healthy. Even though we are able to host scaled-back performances with an extremely limited number of audience members, MPAC faces a long and difficult road ahead before we can once again bring you the fully staged productions we all know and love. As a non-profit theatre, your contributions are vital to our survival and we are profoundly grateful for the generosity of our patrons and supporters. These past seven months have been extremely challenging financially. But despite countless obstacles, we have forged ahead and developed new and creative ways to serve our audiences, from drive in concerts to virtual programming to online Performing Arts School classes to events like the one you will enjoy today. Part of what makes a performing arts center so special is that it brings us together as a community to share the collective excitement of live theatre. However, the pandemic has halted MPAC from being that community gathering place that people turn to for a respite during difficult times. We were one of the first businesses to close due to the pandemic, and we will be among the last to fully re-open, and we are still uncertain as to when that will be. While closed, we have taken this opportunity to work inside our venue to make it safe for your return. We have been rethinking every aspect of what it takes to stage an event and how to do it safely and in a healthy environment. For generations this extraordinary theatre has celebrated good times and risen above dark periods, but only with the help of an incredible community. I remain confident that with your support we will again see brighter days ahead. The show must go on. Thank you so much for returning to MPAC.

A WELCOME FROM OUR BOARD CHAIRMAN When I became Chairman in 2019, we had big plans for MPAC – plans for continued growth and physical expansion. Little did we know at the beginning of March that we would not just have to put these plans on hold, we’d actually have to shut the theater down for an extended period of time, and struggle to remain viable, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve been pleased and impressed by how much we’ve been able to do over the past months to keep the arts relevant when peoples’ spirits have needed uplifting the most. I’m grateful to our dedicated members who have stood with us, giving because they believe that our mission is more vital than ever. However, because of the continued uncertainty, we expect ticket revenue to remain very low for an extended period of time, certainly well into next year. As a result, MPAC is facing the most difficult financial challenge in its history. We hope that you will support MPAC to help us continue our education programs and provide us with resources we’ll need to safely reopen when we can. Can you imagine Morristown without MPAC? I remember what Morristown was like prior to having a thriving arts center. MPAC not only brings heart and soul to this community through the arts, we also invigorate the economy, generating more than $15 million in annual revenue for local businesses. Ask any restaurant owner what their business would be like without MPAC and the 200,000 people who come into Morristown each year for our events. A thriving MPAC is essential to a thriving local community and economy. No doubt, this is a very tough period in our history. But, I’m confident when we look back it’ll turn out to be just a blip in the growth and success of this world class theater. Much like 26 years ago when the community took it upon themselves to give this theater a chance, we need you to give it renewed life. Please give from your heart, we need your support more than ever. MPAC’S MISSION Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, presents a wide range of programs that entertain, enrich, and educate the diverse population of the region and enhance the economic vitality of Northern New Jersey. MPAC Performing Arts School

MPAC is dedicated to providing exceptional arts education to children and adults of all ages and abilities. Our Performing Arts School (PAS), founded in 2006, is a performancebased theatrical training program which serves approximately 700 students per year with over 20 classes a week within a supportive and creative atmosphere.

REINVENTING MPAC What have we done during the pandemic? A lot.

On Wednesday, March 11, MPAC staged a lecture by Dr. Temple Grandin. By noon the next day, we were ordered to shut down. Now, over eight months past that day, our doors remain closed to full capacity events. While the recent decision by the Governor allowing us to accommodate 150 guests inside is a positive first step, the road back to full capacity is still a long journey with no end in sight, and these small events by no means signal that our financial burden has lifted. September 11th was supposed to be our 26th season opening night with Linda Eder. Instead it marked a half year since the lights went out. The challenge continues but our resolve is stronger than ever. Whether it’s 150 people sitting in our auditorium, 500 people enjoying a drive in concert or 12 five year olds in a Zoom Performing Arts School class, we are focused on our commitment to fulfill our mission to educate, enrich and entertain our diverse community.

Pivoting to a Virtual World

Right from the get-go, we tapped into the numerous virtual arts opportunities that were being offered by the arts community. Our virtual arts page became the hub to see a recorded Broadway show, dance recital, Zoom concert and much more. Soon after, MPAC turned to local artists to present Friday Facebook Live concerts. For 12 weeks, Friday lunch concerts spanned jazz, country, pop and more – original events created just for you. We also livestreamed a poetry event featuring writers of color at the height of the demonstrations happening on the streets of America that spoke to the experience of social injustice. Most recently, we have begun to livestream events from our stage.

Pioneering the Drive-In Concert

MPAC became the first major concert venue in the state to stage a Drive-in Concert. On June 25th – a beautiful summer night – over 160 cars drove to Fosterfields Living Historical Farm to enjoy the first concert most people could attend since March. John Ginty and Friends put on an awesome show and for one night, everyone had the chance to exhale and remember the joy of being at a live music event. We hosted four more shows at Fosterfields, and two additional events in October -- Southside Johnny and Almost Queen -- at a new location: the Rockaway Townsquare Mall.


Redefining the Performing Arts School Class Experience

Unfortunately, restrictions prevented us from finishing our Performing Arts School spring semester and holding our summer camps in person, so our Education Department pivoted, and not only went virtual to finish out the year, but staged a brand new second spring six-week semester and a full and extended summer camp program and robust fall semester. The flexibility of the virtual space allowed us to schedule more classes than ever before, featuring teachers from Los Angeles and elsewhere, and students from as far away as Florida, Minnesota and California. We added classes in visual arts, stand-up comedy, voice over work and even magic. Overall, we were able to expand our programs to allow more children and adults to take part in them. Of course, we’d be remiss not to mention the powerful and poignant video of our Performing Arts Company singing “You Will Be Found,” as a call out to children feeling isolated and alone due to being separated from their friends. The video has been viewed over 20,000 times.

Making MPAC Safe for Your Return

Our team has developed plans to make the return of events possible at MPAC. We have reviewed and revised all of our day-of-show policies in the lobby and auditorium as well as backstage to ensure a safe and healthy environment. We have installed new UV filters in our ventilation system, touchless bathroom fixtures, social distancing markers, hand sanitizers, Plexiglas barriers and more. It will feel different at first, but we’re all in this together and it will quickly feel normal once you are in your seat and the lights go down. The past eight months haven’t been easy. Since our Theatre was built in 1937, we’ve weathered many dark periods. We know that the lights will shine brightly again and the days will be filled with amazing memories.

A VERY BROADWAY CHRISTMAS JESSICA HENDY is widely recognized as one of Broadway’s best belters. Her numerous Broadway credits include starring roles in Cats (Grizabella), Elton John’s Aida (Amneris) and Amour. She has toured the US and Canada in both Cats (Grizabella) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Narrator). Her one-woman musical “With Beckett” has a score by Richard Oberacker and Rob Taylor (Bandstand) and is currently in a pre-Broadway workshop. In New York, she garnered rave reviews for her onewoman cabaret, A Life to Call Your Own, and received a Bistro Award for her cabaret debut in the musical comedy revue Get Your Tickets Now. She played Diana Goodman in the regional premier of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next To Normal at The Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati. Her performance as Jeanne in The Great American Trailer Park Musical at ETC earned her an ACCLAIM Award for Best Actress. Jessica has had the pleasure of working at many theaters around the country including Pittsburgh CLO and North Shore Music Theatre where she starred in Miss Saigon (Ellen), and the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Songs for a New World with the Tony-winning Jason Robert Brown at the piano. Jessica regularly performs with leading symphony orchestras around the world in a variety of concerts and musical celebrations and travels the country as featured vocalist in several concert events including Broadway Today! and Cinema Toast: The Music of the Movies. Jessica is a proud graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Conservatory of Music. KELLI RABKE got her “big break” playing the role of Dorothy in Paper Mill Playhouse’s acclaimed production of The Wizard of Oz. Shortly thereafter, she was handpicked by Andrew Lloyd Webber to play the lead role of the Narrator in the Broadway revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Following that, she played her dream role: Eponine in Les Misérables on Broadway. She went on to perform in regional theaters across the country in such roles as Mabel in Mack and Mabel, Christine in The Phantom of the Opera, and back to

Paper Mill Playhouse in Stephen Schwartz’s Children of Eden as Yonah. She is one of the only Broadway starts to originate a role in both a Stephen Schwartz and an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical – a distinction for which she is incredibly honored. She has been seen and heard in TV commercials and voice-overs, and was the voice of several animated characters, including Kat in the Discovery Channel Kids series Kenny the Shark. She also played the recurring role of Bernadette on The Young and the Restless. Her proudest accomplishments to date are her son, Joseph, and daughter, Abigale. Kelli’s time on the board of the BergenPAC in Englewood, NJ led to the development of the Kidz Cabaret series, the BeyondMusic program of instrumental lessons, and her personal favorite: Music Speaks – an early childhood music education class for infants through four years old. She has sung on numerous CD’s for Music Speaks and served as producer and creative director for Beyond the Storm – a Hurricane Sandy relief concert that raised money for local towns hard hit by the storm. At NYC’s historic Town Hall she has been seen in numerous concerts including Broadway Originals and Broadway Unplugged. Kelli was the headliner for the Broadway on the Boardwalk concert in Ocean City, NJ, and performed at Broadway Ballyhoo at the Laurie Beechman Theatre. Her solo cabaret debut, No Place Like Home, had its NYC premier at Feinstein’s 54/Below. Her concert work has taken her all over the world and she couldn’t be happier. SCOTT COULTER is one of New York’s most honored vocalists. For his work in cabaret, he has received five MAC Awards (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs), five Bistro Awards and two Nightlife Awards for Outstanding Vocalist and has performed at most of NYC’s top rooms including Birdland, 54 Below, The Oak Room at the Algonquin, and Feinstein’s at The Regency where he spent a record-setting eight months performing the revue 11 O’Clock Numbers at 11 O’Clock which he also co-created, directed and musically arranged. His self-titled debut CD won the 2003 MAC Award for Outstanding

Scott was director and star of A Christmas Carol: The Symphonic Concert in its world premiere with the Baltimore Symphony and reprised his performance in the Emmy-nominated PBS production which premiered in December 2013. He was an Emmy nominee himself for his performance in American Song at NJPAC. Scott regularly performs in concert both as a solo artist and with a variety of legendary performers including Stephen Schwartz, Tony-winner Ben Vereen and Grammywinner Sheena Easton and has performed with symphonies all over the world including San Francisco, Baltimore, Seattle, Phoenix, Detroit, Winnipeg, St. Louis and Calgary. Since 1997, Scott has performed with awardwinning songwriting duo Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich in their many awardwinning revues. While singing with Goldrich and Heisler he was discovered by Oscar and Grammy winning composer Stephen Schwartz who then invited him to join the revue Stephen Schwartz & Friends. That revue (starring Schwartz and Coulter along with Liz Callaway and Tony Award-winner Debbie Gravitte) has been performing all over the world since 1999. Schwartz has said, “One of the greatest things that can happen to a composer is to have his music interpreted by Scott Coulter.” Scott is creator, arranger and director of several touring shows (symphonic and non-) including Music of the Knights, The Wonderful Music of Oz, Blockbuster Broadway!, and, for The ASCAP Foundation, Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert. As a director his credits include many shows for The Town Hall in NYC and Broadway by the Way for The Berkshire Theatre Festival and Broadway by the Bay. Along with Michael Kerker and ASCAP, he’s a regular producer/ director of Michael Feinstein’s Standard Time at Carnegie Hall. Scott recently wrote the book for the new musical Got To Be There which celebrates the life and music of songwriter Elliot Willensky.

Scott is founder/owner of Spot-On Entertainment and Spot-On Arts Academy and is a resident director of programming at 54 Below (Broadway’s Supper Club) in NYC. He is the artistic director of the Pocono Mountains Music Festival and a proud graduate of the Cincinnati CollegeConservatory of Music. JOHN FISCHER has been a music director and pianist in NYC for the past two decades. Most recently, he music directed the sold out run at Feinstein’s/54 Below for Tony Award winner Alice Ripley and Tony nominee Emily Skinner’s cabaret show, Unattached, in addition to the live CD recording of the show. He spent six seasons as the music director for the highly acclaimed musical theatre program at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the Berkshires. For the past eight years, John has served as music director for the Broadway’s Rising Stars and Broadway Originals concerts at Town Hall. He is also a regular fixture at Feinstein’s/54 Below, music directing everything from Sondheim to Schwartz, in addition to the award winning 54 Sings series (Applause, Mack & Mabel, Kiss of the Spiderwoman). Other NY credits include pianist for the recent Broadway revival of West Side Story, pianist/conductor for Talk of the Town Bank Street Theatre, Take Me Along Irish Rep, Naked Boys Singing New World Stages. Associate MD: Africa and Plumbridge and Espresso Trasho NY Fringe Festival, Broadway Backwards II & III American Airlines Theatre. Regional Music Director credits include Hello Dolly!, Funny Girl, The King and I, Gypsy, No No Nanette, The Pirates of Penzance, Peter Pan, Oliver among others. John has had the pleasure of working with such well known artists as Judy Collins, Kate Winslet, Mickey Dolenz, Jennifer Holiday, Michele Lee, in addition to scores of Broadway performers. He has been on staff as a music director or accompanist for Applause NY, AMDA, HB Studios, The New School, The Growing Studio, and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
