MAYO PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

The Doo Wop Project

The Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning: tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. In their epic shows The Doo Wop Project takes audiences on a journey featuring foundational tunes from the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos through the vocal artistry of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons all the way to DooWopified versions of modern hits from Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, and Sam Smith.

Featuring stars from the Broadway hits Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, and A Bronx Tale, The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine—the greatest music in American pop and rock history.

I am very lucky to get to hear Avantika sing daily and am so grateful to have her as part of my choir.

Kassandra

Ramirez

Throughout these past four years, I have seen the emergence of a highly motivated, assertive, mature, and compassionate student who excels at every aspect of her education. She participates in all vocal music ensembles at Dover High School, including the musical, and always strives to get better. In my years of teaching, Kassandra has emerged as one of the premier students at Dover High School.

Sam Siebold

Grade 8, Frelinghuysen Middle School; Morristown; Nominated by Gillain Erlenborn

Sam is a member of my 8th grade choir and my after school select choir. In both ensembles, Sam is a fierce leader of her peers. She devotes an extraordinary amount of time and talent outside of school to ensure that she is prepared for her rehearsals at school. One example of this was shown during our preparations for our winter concert. I told the students that the piece “DiraitOn” by Morten Lauridsen was a huge challenge and would require work far surpassing what I would expect from a middle school ensemble. Sam was very vocal in rehearsal that she wanted the group to take on the challenge. Sure enough, Sam returned to our next rehearsal with the piece completely memorized. She then helped lead sectionals to help the rest of the ensemble tackle the piece. Sam is also a budding song writer. She accompanies herself on guitar and plays beautifully. I consider myself blessed every time Sam offers to show me some of her work. It is really fantastic. I am so excited to see where Sam ends up in her musical journey.

Sophia Passaro

Grade 11, West Morris Central High School; Chester; Nominated by Mark Stingle

Sophia Passaro is one of the strongest and most involved students at West Morris Central High School. A member of the Mixed Choir for three years, the Treble Chorus and Concert Choir for one year, and the student-led treble a cappella group, The Loreleis, for three years (with two years as the groupʼs co-leader), Sophia is involved in every group possible in our school. She has also taken part in three musicals, as a featured singer in two, and as a lead this year. Outside of school, she has been a member of the Rock-n-Roll Chorus, and she has auditioned into Morris Area Honor Choir, Region I Choir and New Jersey All-State Choir. This year, she has also been accepted into the prestigious NAfME All-Eastern Choir that will perform in Rochester, NY in April 2023. Sophia is an outstanding vocalist, actress and leader (she is my Choir President as a junior) and exhibits all of the requisite qualities of any excellent performer: diligence, hard work, attention to detail, and most notably, talent.
