ALIZÉ CARRÈRE
Environmental Anthropologist & Filmmaker Alizé Carrère is a National Geographic Explorer, filmmaker, and PhD candidate researching and documenting human adaptations to environmental change. In 2013, Carrère received support from National Geographic to conduct research in Madagascar, where she spent several months uncovering an unlikely agricultural adaptation in response to severe deforestation. Learning of farmers who were turning erosional gullies into fertile pockets of farmland, her work evolved into a broader film and educational project on human resilience. She brings her social science background and extensive field experience to her filmmaking, with the goal of elevating the human dimensions of climate change. Carrère received both her B.A. and M.Sc. from McGill University, and is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Miami where she is examining the relationship between architecture, climate change, and ecological urban utopias.
A Message From Our Lead Sponsor “BASF is proud to partner with our New Jersey neighbors at MPAC and National Geographic to present programming that fosters greater awareness of the incredible world that surrounds us. At BASF, our purpose, We create chemistry for a sustainable future, means we are focused on developing innovative technologies to help power, feed, move, house and improve the lives of the growing world community. In both our operations and products, we seek the best possible balance among economic, environmental and social factors; sustainable solutions for today and for the future. Just as importantly, we aim to create the human chemistry -- connections between people, organizations and institutions -- that fosters a collaborative and cooperative approach to solving the world’s sustainability challenges. On Earth Day, and every day, BASF is proud to play a key role in creating chemistry to meet the needs of a thriving tomorrow.”
