Welcome to the Mayo Performing Arts Center! Dear Patron, In the winter of 1994, conductor Valery Gergiev and his friend, classical pianist Alexander Slobodyanik, entered the boarded-up, run-down Community Theatre which had been closed and left to ruin. Gergiev stepped on to the dilapidated stage, snapped his fingers, listened to the acoustics and proclaimed, “The Kirov with play here!” On September 29, 1994, after a massive cleanup effort by hundreds of volunteers, Gergiev and the Kirov opened the newly created Community Theatre performance hall. It was a night to remember. How quickly 20 years has passed. In the last two decades, the Theatre has been renovated and expanded. 1937-era restrooms have been replaced by state-of-the-art modern facilities. The stage has been ripped apart, rebuilt and enlarged. Where once stood a house now stands our administrative offices, education studios, backstage production facilities and the Starlight Room. MPAC has grown up from a local community theatre into a world class performing arts center. We’ve attracted amazing artists over the years – Ringo Starr, Ray Charles, Harry Connick, Jr., Itzhak Perlman and David Brubeck, just to name a few. We now present Broadway touring companies with large-scale shows like Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. What was a once only a dream in 1994 has become a reality today. MPAC has become the cultural nucleus of Northern New Jersey. This season, we are especially delighted to welcome back Valery Gergiev for the first time since that historic concert 20 years ago. Save the date of January 30, 2015 for our special 20th anniversary concert. Equally as important to bringing the world’s greatest artists to Morristown is fostering an environment of learning and inclusion for the youth of our community. Something special with the children of our area happens in our building nearly every day. MPAC is the home to a robust arts education and outreach program that continues to flourish. Fully produced musicals such as Hairspray, performing arts classes, residency programs at local schools, schooltime educational shows, master classes with industry pros, Music Students of the Month, visual art contests, Poetry Out Loud, the traveling teen performing arts company and our internship program touch the lives of over 40,000 school age children and their families. In 20 years, we have become a powerful economic engine for the local community, a valued education resource for children and home to the world’s greatest entertainers who make performance after performance something to remember and cherish. Who would have thought what a snap of the fingers would have created! Sincerely, Joseph M. Goryeb Chairman, Board of Trustees

The Miracle on South Street Celebrating 20 years!
The 2014-2015 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Mayo Performing Arts Center. Originally built as Morristown’s premier movie theater in 1937 and called The Community Theatre, MPAC (renamed in 2009) was saved from the wrecking ball in 1994 by a group of community volunteers who envisioned the value a vibrant arts center could have on a town. Morristown resident and classical pianist Alexander Slobodyanik invited his friend, Valery Gergiev, the conductor of the Kirov Orchestra, to enter the boarded up theater in early 1994. Mr. Gergiev stood on stage, snapped his fingers, heard the acoustics and proclaimed, “The Kirov will play here.” After a summer in which hundreds of residents volunteered their time to remove mushrooms growing from the floor, and cleaned up the mold, mildew and dust, the Kirov did play here. On September 29, 1994, a new era was born with the rebirth of The Community Theatre – once Morristown’s crown jewel of a movie palace -- into a concert hall. Twenty years, later, MPAC remains Morristown’s crown jewel, and has evolved into a world renowned performing arts center, with over 200 events on our stage every year, attracting over 200,000 patrons, with an economic impact in excess of $14 million on the area. Tony Bennett, Ringo Starr, Jerry Seinfeld, Bill Cosby, and many more of the world’s best known performers have graced the stage. It is the Morris County home to the New Jersey Symphony and New Jersey Ballet, and over the years, has provided space for many other New Jersey based arts organizations. Beyond what goes on our stage is the growth of MPAC’s education and outreach programs that bring the arts experience to children in communities throughout New Jersey, engaging the next generation of arts lovers in educational programs that instill confidence, inspire learning and encourage teamwork. From our teen Performing Arts Company to school residency programs, productions such as Hairspray to Music Students of the Month, MPAC education programs touch the lives of over 40,000 children and families annually. “The Miracle on South Street,” as dubbed by historian John T. Cunningham, still continues to inspire.
Join us on Friday, January 30, 2015 as Valery Gergiev returns for the first time since the opening in 1994 as we celebrate 20 years in Morristown!

Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone and The Buckinghams Peter Noone Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone is a multitalented entertainer, who has been delighting audiences nearly all his life. He was born in Manchester, England, where he studied voice and acting at St. Bede’s College and the Manchester School of Music and Drama. As a child, he played “Stanley Fairclough” in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. He was also featured in the television series Knight Errant, Family Solicitor and Monro’s Saki Stories. At the age of fifteen, Peter achieved international fame as “Herman”, lead singer of the legendary pop band Herman’s Hermits. His classic hits include: “I’m Into Something Good”, “Mrs. Brown, you’ve Got A Lovely Daughter”, “I’m Henry VIII, I Am”, “Silhouettes”, “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat”, “Wonderful World”, “Just A Little Bit Better”, “There’s A Kind of Hush”, “A Must To Avoid”, “Listen People”, “No Milk Today” “The End of the World” “Leaning On A Lamp Post”, and “Dandy”. Ultimately, Herman’s Hermits sold over fifty-two million recordings. In all, fourteen singles and seven albums went gold. As “Herman”, the photogenic Noone graced the cover of nearly every international publication including Time Magazine. He performed on hundreds of television shows and appeared with such luminaries as Ed Sullivan, Jackie Gleason, Dean Martin and Danny Kaye. He was cast as the engaging “Duke of Cheshire” in ABC’s musical version of The Canterville Ghost. Soon thereafter, he portrayed the title role in Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Pinocchio. He also starred in three highly successful feature films for M-G-M: Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter, Hold On! and When The Boys Meet The Girls. With characteristic zeal, Peter took on leading roles in full-scale theatrical productions of Dick Wittington, Aladdin and Sinbad The Sailor. These live stage spectaculars were mounted at major theatres throughout Great Britain and Noone received critical acclaim for his outstanding work. In the eighties, Peter starred on Broadway in the New York Shakespeare Festival’s production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. He won rave reviews for his superb portrayal
of the dashing, young hero, “Frederic”. His performance was so well received, that he went on to reprise the role at the worldfamous Drury Lane Theatre in London. Noone charmed audiences worldwide as he continued to play “Frederic” with both the U.S. National Touring Company and the International Touring Company of “Pirates”. Peter’s acting career flourished with gueststarring roles in prime-time television series such as: Married With Children, My Two Dads, Dave’s World, Easy Street, Too Close For Comfort, and Laverne and Shirley. In a memorable episode of Quantum Leap, he shed his “nice guy” image to portray “Dwayne”, a scheming promoter with murderous intentions. He starred as “Apoo”, a frustrated African relief worker, in the Los Angeles stage premiere of Topokana Martyr’s Day and as Alfred Von Wilmers in the U.S. National Tour of the smash Broadway hit Romance, Romance. The Buckinghams One of the most beloved and respected Chicago bands ever to explode onto the national scene, The Buckinghams’ live concerts pack power into 60s pop rock. Bringing back great memories with charttopping 60s hits, The Buckinghams also perform popular 70s favorites in their sets, electrifying audiences with high-energy fun. Original Buckinghams Carl Giammarese and Nick Fortuna and their band continue to deliver fast-paced, solid shows that get crowds on their feet. Their #1 song, “Kind of a Drag” is a standout favorite that first made them famous. Next came 7 national chart hits, 15 singles, and 8 acclaimed albums. When Billboard Magazine named them “The Most Listened to Band in America,” The Buckinghams became national favorites on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Smothers Brothers’ Comedy Hour, American Bandstand, and more. Thousands of loyal fans remain devoted today, as their hits continue to be heard on oldies radio, classic rock stations, Sirius/ XM satellite and Internet channels. Ever as enthusiastic and effervescent as when their records began their ascents up national charts, The Buckinghams’ Giammarese
and Fortuna deliver nonstop, high-energy performances that audiences appreciate and request in shows filled with longtime fans, as well as new friends—teens and young adults. Today’s stage act is a crowd-pleasing favorite as they deliver a show packed with tremendous music and good humor. Audiences love The Buckinghams today as much as they first did in the 60s. Families book vacations around their regular appearances. With 3 songs on the Top 10 simultaneously, The Buckinghams enjoyed phenomenal success with hit singles including the powerful “Don’t You Care”, the soulful “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”, and the national anthem of teenage love, “Hey Baby, They’re Playing Our Song”, on the national charts simultaneously. In 1968, the Buckinghams debuted “Susan” on The Ed Sullivan Show. In concerts today, crowds still sing along, “I love you, yes I do”, as audiences love knowing the words to all their songs. In 2001, The Buckinghams were part of the successful “Solid Gold 60s” tour, which featured Tommy James & The Shondells, The Turtles, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, and The Grass Roots. PBS featured The Buckinghams on “The Sixties Pop Rock Reunion” in 2004. The Buckinghams headline festivals, play arenas, theatres, and casinos, wherever fans want to hear them. Playing the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Ball was a great honor for The Buckinghams. They were again invited to perform at the Bipartisan Agricultural Ball at the Presidential Inaugural festivities at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington, DC, on January 20, 2009. From 2008–2009, The Buckinghams released 3 new CDs—“Reaching Back”,“Standing Room Only”, and “The Joy of Christmas”, including favorite holiday standards, plus new tunes
from their popular annual Christmas shows. In 2009, The Buckinghams were inducted into the prestigious Hit Parade Hall of Fame. Their 2010 DVD/CD, “Up Close”, features The Buckinghams live in concert at the Star Plaza Theatre. American Entertainment Magazine recently highlighted The Buckinghams as one of their Top 10 bands. After highly acclaimed 25th and 26th Anniversary reunion tours, Carl Giammarese and Nick Fortuna will return for the 2012 Happy Together Tour, as The Buckinghams join The Turtles, Micky Dolenz, The Grass Roots, and Gary Puckett for this national tour. Later this year, Giammarese will release his biography, “Reinventing The Buckinghams: My Journey,” about 45+ years in the dynamic world of music entertainment. He’ll also share a companion CD “Journey: The Music of The Buckinghams and Beyond”, with acoustic arrangements of chart hits and songs from Carl’s career as solo singer, duo member, and as lead vocalist since 1982.

Jackie Evancho Jackie Evancho’s first performance on NBC’s variety show “America’s Got Talent” left audiences and judges astonished that such a perfect, beautiful, soprano voice could come from a 10 year-old girl. During her next appearance in the competition, judges asked Jackie to improvise a tune which she performed flawlessly. It wasn’t just her musical gift and her age that floored the “America’s Got Talent” audience, but Jackie’s presence, poise and charm that truly made them take notice. One of the show’s judges, Piers Morgan, explained, “You’ve got the whole package.” The young soprano from Pittsburgh with the stunning voice won runner-up and launched her soon-to-be legendary career, signing with Columbia Records shortly thereafter. “She is a prodigy; they break the rules by definition,” wrote music critic Andrew Duckenbrod in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette after seeing a then-11 year old perform to a sold-out crowd in her hometown in October, 2011. “[Her] voice mesmerizes. She has become one of the performers who has been defining the “crossover classic” category of singers – those who are equally comfortable with Puccini or pop.” In a little over four years, Jackie’s unique, gorgeous, soprano voice has won her millions of fans and her recordings have dominated the music and DVD charts. Now 14, Jackie has garnered the support of legendary music producers like David Foster and filmmakers such as Robert Redford. Billboard Magazine named Jackie to their list of music moversand-shakers under the age of 21 in 2011 and again in 2012 because the soprano’s “spellbinding, operatic vocals possess a power and poignancy that often moves listeners multiple times her age to tears.” Another notable list Jackie was named to was the “Best Mannered People of 2011”, being recognized for “demonstrating humility and politeness as a young performer”. Jackie’s debut EP, O Holy Night, was released in November 2010 and became the year’s #1 best-selling debut recording with sales exceeding 1 million copies and earning her a platinum certification. In June 2011, Jackie released her first studio album, Dream With Me. A mix of operatic arias, show tunes and
pop standards, it debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #2 and was certified Gold after only four weeks of release. Heavenly Christmas, was released in November 2011 and became one of the top-selling holiday albums of the year. Jackie has participated in the lighting of the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C., where she sang—and delighted—President and Mrs. Obama. Two months later, she was again invited to perform for the President and Congressional leaders during the National Prayer Breakfast. In early 2012, Jackie was selected to travel to Russia to perform in front of 100,000 people prior to the opening of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Jackie, representing the United States, was honored to sing with two opera stars, Dmitri Hvorostovsky of Russia and Sumi Jo of Korea. Jackie’s fan base also extends to Japan, where she was invited to perform for the Royal Family at the Imperial Palace. She tours regularly with the Tokyo Philharmonic to sold out venues. Her U.S. shows are also sell-outs and have been taped for broadcast on PBS for the Great Performances series. Jackie’s first PBS special was one of the top pledge producing performances in PBS’ history. When PBS aired Dream With Me In Concert during the latter half of 2011, it instantly became one of their most broadcast programs of the year and was used extensively during pledge drives. She was asked to do another show for the Great Performance series in 2012: Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies which features Jackie singing classic songs from movies as diverse as “South Pacific” (Some Enchanted Evening), “Titanic” (My Heart Will Go On) and “Cinema Paridiso (Se). Jackie released her third studio album, Songs From The Silver Screen, on October 2, 2012. Like the others before, the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Classical charts and was another top 10 hit the Billboard Top 200 Album chart coming in at #7. Jackie has tried her hand at both acting and modeling. She made her acting debut in “The Company You Keep.” Legendary actor/ director/producer Robert Redford cast Jackie to play his daughter in the thriller scheduled
which came out in theaters in April 2013. “I am so happy that Mr. Redford picked me to be in his film. And I am excited to learn from performers that are amazing at what they do,” says Jackie, who is part of a star-studded cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Shia LaBeouf, Anna Kendrick, Terrance Howard, Nick Nolte and Stanley Tucci. Off screen, Jackie was selected by GUESS owner, Paul Marciano, to star in both the Fall 2012 GUESS Kids clothing campaigns. “I have had so much fun and done so many challenging things. But while I really enjoyed all the traveling and the acting and had such a great time posing in all those great clothes for GUESS, singing is still the thing I love the most,” said Jackie.
In March 2013 Jackie performed as part of an unprecedented Cirque du Soleil extravaganza at the Bellagio’s “O” Theatre to support “One Night for One Drop” on World Water Day. For the first time ever, all Cirque du Soleil shows closed their doors in order for 200 performers to collaborate in the once-in-a-lifetime show. Jackie starred as the show’s special guest and participated in a breathtaking water and aerial performance. Jackie Evancho’s new album “Awakening” came out on September 23rd 2014 via Sony Music Masterworks, and will be followed by a new highly anticipated PBS special as well as a world tour. “Awakening” earned her a fifth #1 on the Billboard Classical charts. and manages the notable feat of having a #1 hit as both a tween and a teen.

The Charlie Daniels Band From his Dove Award winning gospel albums to his genre-defining Southern rock anthems and his CMA Award-winning country hits, few artists have left a more indelible mark on America’s musical landscape than Charlie Daniels. An outspoken patriot, beloved mentor to young artists and still a road warrior at age 77, Charlie has parlayed his passion for music into a multi-platinum career and a platform to support the military, underprivileged children and others in need. Raised among the longleaf pines of North Carolina, Charlie began his career playing bluegrass music with the Misty Mountain Boys. After moving to Nashville in 1967, he began making a name for himself as a songwriter, session musician and producer. Elvis Presley recorded a tune Charlie cowrote titled “It Hurts Me,” which was released on the flip side of “Kissin’ Cousins.” He played on such landmark albums as Bob Dylan’s Nashville Skyline and tried his hand at producing on the Youngbloods’ Elephant Mountain and Ride the Wind. His own unique voice as an artist emerged as Charlie recorded his self-titled solo album in 1970 for Capitol Records. Two years later he formed the Charlie Daniels Band and the group scored its first hit with the top ten “Uneasy Rider.” Since then the CDB has populated radio with such memorable hits as “Long Haired Country Boy,” “The South’s Gonna Do It Again,” “In America,” “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” and of course, his signature song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 1979 as well as single of the year at the Country Music Association Awards. “I love what I do,” says Charlie of his 50-plus years in the music business. “I look forward to entertaining people. When show time gets here, I’m ready to go, ready to go play for them. It’s a labor of love. I just thank God I make a living at what I enjoy doing.” Whether performing in the hit 80s movie Urban Cowboy, singing on Easter Sunday at his local church or leading an all-star cast at one of his famed Volunteer Jams, Charlie just exudes joy whenever he steps on stage and he’s always been quick to provide a platform for other artists to shine. In 1974 he invited
some friends to join him at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium for an all-star concert he dubbed The Volunteer Jam. The event continued for years and was broadcast in the U.S. and internationally. Over the years, the Jam featured a diverse line up that included Willie Nelson, Ted Nugent, Roy Acuff, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Crystal Gayle, James Brown, Emmylou Harris, Amy Grant, George Thorogood, Kris Kristofferson, Little Richard, Tammy Wynette, Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, B. B. King and the Allman Brothers. As diverse as his live shows have always been, his discography has also reflected Charlie’s love of multiple genres. In 1994 he released his first Christian album, The Door, on Sparrow Records. The album won the Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award for Best Country Album and “Two Out of Three” was named video of the year by the Christian Country Music Association. In 1997, Sony Wonder released Charlie’s first children’s album, By The Light of The Moon” Campfire Songs and Cowboy Tunes. An astute businessman as well as talented musician, Charlie launched Blue Hat Records in 1997 with his longtime personal manager David Corlew. Over the past 15 years, the label has released such memorable albums as Blues Hat, Tailgate Party, Road Dogs, Fiddle Fire: 25 Years of the Charlie Daniels Band and his first bluegrass album 2005’s Songs From the Longleaf Pines and 2007’s album Deuces, featuring duets with Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Bonnie Bramlett, Travis Tritt, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Brenda Lee and Darius Rucker. Over the course of his career, Charlie has received numerous accolades, including induction into the Grand Ole Opry and Musicians Hall of Fame. He’s been presented the Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music and was honored as a BMI Icon in recognition of his songwriting. He’s received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Any conversation with the legendary artist, however, rarely includes any of his accomplishments. He’d rather shine the spotlight on the many causes that are close to his heart. He’s always been a staunch supporter of the military, and for the past
several years has headlined a special concert each spring at David Lipscomb University benefiting the Yellow Ribbon Program which provides scholarships for veterans. In 2012 he welcomed Chris Young, Rascal Flatts, Darryl Worley, the Grascals and actor Gary Sinise to Lipscomb for a great evening of music. Charlie also lends his time and talent to numerous other charitable organizations, including the Jason Foundation Golf Classic, an organization that targets teen suicide prevention, and the Galilean Children’s Home in Liberty, KY, which provides a home for abused and neglected children, “I’ve been affiliated with them for a long, long time and it’s just a great place,” Charlie says of the home founded by Jerry and Sandy Tucker. “They take in babies whose mothers are going to prison. They give kids a good stable Christian home and love them. It’s just a wonderful place.”
Each year Charlie also hosts The Charlie Daniels Celebrity Golf Classic & Angelus Concert in Hudson, FL, a benefit for The Angelus, a full-time residential facility and day school program for the severely handicapped. Charlie is also a member of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Professional Advisory Board and has been a longtime supporter of the T. J. Martell Foundation and its numerous events aiding cancer research. He’s also the headliner every year for the Christmas 4 Kids concert at the Ryman Auditorium, which raises money to provide a happy holiday for needy children. “I have a very unique opportunity because of being in the music community,” Charlie says of using his celebrity status to aid worthy causes. “You try to give back to some extent. I do feel like people should. We should all do as much as we can.”

Michael McDonald: This Christmas: An Evening of Holiday & Hits Two notes. That’s all it takes to recognize the voice of Michael McDonald. Distinctive and soulful, it is one of the most yearningly emotive instruments of our times. To this add formidable songwriting and keyboard skills, and you have an artist who has been a singular musical presence for four decades. From ‘70s-era Doobie Brothers classics such as “What A Fool Believes” and solo hits like “I Keep Forgettin’” through two highlyacclaimed Motown albums, genre-busting guest spots and innovative concept shows, the five-time Grammy Award winning McDonald is both timeless and ever-evolving. Beyond his music, McDonald has long been an active humanitarian. He has lent his talents and energies to many causes and benefits, including MusiCares, the National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, the 7UP Grammy Signature Schools Program and was part of a star-studded lineup at Kokua For Japan, a concert that raised $1.6 million for tsunami relief. After moving from his hometown of St. Louis to Los Angeles in the early ‘70s, McDonald honed his talent as a session musician and singer before being invited to join Steely Dan. Over the course of four classic albums, from Katy Lied to Gaucho, McDonald became an integral part of the group’s sound, singing background vocals on FM staples like “Black Friday” and “Peg.” In the mid-‘70s, McDonald joined The Doobie Brothers, helping the band redefine their funky R & B sound as a singer, keyboardist and songwriter on such Top 40 singles as “Takin’ It To The Streets,”“It Keeps You Runnin’,”“Minute Authentic Thai in New Jersey since 1988
By Minute” and “What A Fool Believes.” His distinct vocal style also made him one of the world’s most sought-after session singers. Beyond his hits with The Doobies, McDonald has lent his voice to records by an A-Z of artists, including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Vince Gill and Grizzly Bear. During the ‘80s and ‘90s, his solo career zoomed from success to success on the wings of evergreen hits like “Sweet Freedom,” “On My Own” (a duet with Patti LaBelle) and the Grammy-winning duet with James Ingram “Yah Mo B There.” Continuing to explore new vistas, McDonald released his Grammy-nominated, platinumselling pair of Motown albums in 2003. Then in 2005, he partnered with Hallmark for a special Christmas album, Through The Many Winters, which sold 500,000 copies in its first two weeks. In 2008 McDonald released the acclaimed crossover album Soul Speak (which hit three different charts simultaneously), and in 2011 received an honary doctorate from Berklee School of Music. Recently he and co-horts Donald Fagen and Boz Scaggs an 11-piece soul supergroup who tour as The Dukes Of September, released their first live DVD. McDonald continues to tour extensively as a solo artist, with symphonies, altruistic events and plans to tour this summer with Toto. With a career that encompasses five Grammys, numerous chart successes, personal and professional accolades, as well as collaborations with some of the world’s most prominent artists, Michael McDonald remains an enduring force in popular music. 3 Pine Street, Morristown (973) 993-9122 sirinthairestaurant.com

Dennis Miller Since 2007, Dennis Miller has been heard five days a week on his nationally syndicated Dial Global (formerly Westwood One) Radio talk show, “The Dennis Miller Show.” He is also a regular contributor for “The O’Reilly Factor” on the FOX News Channel. It’s been said that Miller is “One of the premiere comedy talents in America today…” While others are blunt assessing Miller’s comedic stature, Dennis himself makes a virtue of understatement, but there is nothing low key about his career. Miller is a five-time Emmy award winner for his critically acclaimed half-hour, live talk show “Dennis Miller Live” which had a nine year run on HBO. Miller also garnered three Writer’s Guild of America Awards for the series as well as an additional WGA Award for his 1997 HBO special, “Dennis Miller: Citizen Arcane.” He also wrote and starred in the Emmy-nominated cable comedy special “Raw Feed.” That show, along with the six other standup specials he did for HBO from 1988-2006, is featured in the recently released DVD set, “Dennis Miller: The HBO Specials.” His eighth special for HBO, “Dennis Miller: The Big Speech” debuted last year and is now also available on DVD. He was the host and executive producer of CNBC’s “Dennis Miller”, a topical interview talk show featuring reasoned discourse, opinion and humor. Additionally, Miller has appeared on many politically oriented television talk shows.
He has also been cast in films, usually in dramatic roles, most notably in 1994’s “Disclosure,” 1995’s “The Net,” and 1997’s “Murder at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.” He also appeared in the 2008 release, “What Happens in Vegas.” Dennis has also achieved success in the literary arena with four books, “I Rant Therefore I Am,” “The Rants,” “Ranting Again,” and “The Rant Zone” have all been New York Times best sellers. For two seasons, Miller called the plays alongside Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts on ABC’s “Monday Night Football.” He was also the “Weekend Update” correspondent on “Saturday Night Live” for six years, before exiting in 1991. He has yet to appear in a show with the words, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday in the title. Over the years, Miller has become both a public and critical favorite. The New York Times said, “Mr. Miller is exquisitely attuned to contemporary foibles…his material can be scathing, his delivery low key…Mr. Miller reaches a bit farther than most comedians for the scorching comment…this smart aleck has an uncommonly sharp eye…” and The Hollywood Reporter called his most recent special, “an hour of topical, scathing brilliance that helps cement Miller’s status as the Lenny Bruce of the new millennium… the most cerebral, astute and clever standup ever to put mouth to microphone.”

Dave Koz & Friends Nine-time GRAMMY® nominee Dave Koz remembers the first record he ever purchased – Tower of Power’s 1974 album, Back To Oakland. It had a powerful impact on him, as his latest album, Summer Horns, shows. Teaming up with three of his most talented and trusted colleagues – Gerald Albright, Richard Elliot and Mindi Abair – Koz revisited the music that made him want to pick up the saxophone in the first place: classic tracks from Tower of Power and other brassy juggernauts that ruled the airwaves from the late 1960s through the ‘70s – bands like Sly & the Family Stone, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears. Over the decades, the saxophone has opened numerous doors for Koz. He’s played with such artists as Burt Bacharach, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Shelby Lynne, Kenny Loggins, U2, Barry Manilow, Michael McDonald, Luther Vandross and Rod Stewart. He’s become a platinum-selling artist with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is also known as a humanitarian, entrepreneur, radio host and instrumental music advocate. Born and raised in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, Dave initially just saw the saxophone as a way to help him gain entry into his big brother’s band. What began as a ploy became a lifelong obsession. After graduating from UCLA, Koz decided to become a professional musician. Within weeks of that decision, he was recruited as a touring member of Bobby Caldwell’s band. It was during this time that Koz befriended keyboardist Jeff Lorber, who invited Koz to come play on one of his tours. That stint was followed by a fourteen-month tour with pop singer Richard Marx. Signed to Capitol Records by Bruce Lundvall, Koz released his self-titled solo debut album in 1990. This was the first in a body of best-selling work, which includes the gold-certified Lucky Man (1993), Off The Beaten Path (1996), and the holiday-themed albums December Makes Me Feel This Way (1997) and Dave Koz & Friends - A Smooth Jazz Christmas (2001). His gold-certified fifth album, The Dance (1999), spawned no less than five Top 5 contemporary jazz hits. Saxophonic (2003) produced another four Top 5 singles and garnered Koz two Grammy nominations spanning two consecutive
years. In 2007, Koz released two chart-topping collections of standards. At The Movies, his lush, romantic celebration of timeless melodies from cinema, spent 12 weeks atop Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz chart. Produced by the legendary Phil Ramone, it was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Pop Instrumental Album” category. Memories Of A Winter’s Night, a festive collection of holiday standards, hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz chart in December 2007. Dave Koz At The Movies Double Feature CD + DVD followed in early 2008, which featured the At The Movies CD with two never-beforereleased bonus audio tracks, a new DVD and a track-by-track commentary. Capitol Records released Dave Koz – Greatest Hits, his first-ever retrospective album, in the fall of 2008 and it debuted at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and iTunes’ Jazz Album chart. The collection included many of Koz’s smash singles – including “Castle of Dreams,” “Can’t Let You Go” featuring the late Luther Vandross, “Together Again,” “Honey-Dipped” and “All I See Is You” – plus four new brand new songs. Lead single “Life In The Fast Lane,” which Koz co-wrote with writer/producer Darren Rahn, spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the R&R Monitored Smooth Jazz chart. It was followed by the Top 5 single “Bada Bing.” Hello Tomorrow – Dave’s first album for Concord Records – debuted at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and iTunes’ Jazz Album chart and was named the “Best Smooth Jazz Album of 2010” by iTunes. The CD was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. Hailed as “an event record” by The New York Times, its lead single, “Put The Top Down,” spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Mediabase Smooth A/C chart – the longest stint at No. 1 of any of Koz’s chart-topping hits. Ultimate Christmas, featuring 18 perennial holiday classics performed by Koz, bowed in 2011 on Capitol/EMI. Live at the Blue Note Tokyo, Koz’s first-ever live CD, was released by Concord Records in 2012 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album. Koz and his friends Gerald Albright, Richard
Elliot and Mindi Abair turned to producer Paul Brown (Al Jarreau, George Benson, June Tabor, Boney James) to help them realize the vision for Summer Horns (2013, Concord Records). The album also features trumpeter/ flugelhornist Rick Braun, trombonist Brian Culbertson, vocalists Michael McDonald, Jeffrey Osborne and Jonathan Butler – plus arrangements by Greg Adams (Tower of Power) and Tom Scott. Topping it off is a saxonly rendition of “Take Five” with Gordon Goodwin offering his arrangement to the quartet and a new original composition, “Summer Horns.” The album was honored with a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album and an NAACP Image Awards nomination for Outstanding Jazz Album. Dave is constantly touring, with annual summer and holiday tours, and Dave Koz & Friends At Sea cruises. He also continues to flex his mass-communications muscles as a radio personality. On the weekends, he hosts the syndicated Dave Koz Radio Show – now in its 19th year and airing in approximately 50 markets.
As an entrepreneur, Koz founded Rendezvous Entertainment. As a philanthropist, he has served for 19 years as global ambassador for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Dave recently partnered with premium Santa Barbara winemaker Terravant, Whole Foods Market® and California Pizza Kitchen to introduce four new types of KOZ wines. He is donating all his proceeds from KOZ wines to help Starlight continue its vital mission. Koz completed a four-year term on the Grammy Foundation Artists Committee, has served as National Trustee for the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) and is an ongoing member of the Board Of Governors for the Grammy® Foundation. To this day, Koz is transfixed by the sound of summer horns that swept him away nearly 40 years ago and – as he continues his efforts as an instrumental music advocate – he’s living proof that the opportunities are limitless when you shoot for the stars and are armed with your favorite instrument.

Celtic Thunder has performed at the White House for President and Mrs. Obama, at the Pentagon for the Chairman of the Joint Chefs of Staff as well as on the CBS Saturday Show’s Second Cup Café, the Today Show, and Fox and Friends. David Munro, Musical Director for Celtic Thunder, and is responsible for all arrangements and orchestration in tonight’s show. David Brophy - Conductor Celtic Thunder are delighted to announce that one of Ireland’s leading conductors, David Brophy, will be joining the upcoming Celtic Thunder Symphony Tour as our conductor. David Brophy held the role of Principal Conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra from 2007 until 2013. He previously worked with the National Chamber Choir of Ireland and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. His career has taken him to many parts of Europe, Africa, America and Canada. While conducting RTÉ NSO, he conducted the orchestra in front of over 80,000 people at the spectacular opening ceremony of The Special Olympics World Games in 2003, which was televised worldwide, and included performances with U2 and the largest Riverdance troupe ever assembled. Radio broadcasts have been carried on RTÉ, BBC, CBC Television (Canada) and EBU to listeners across Europe, while recordings have been released on Silva Screen and Tara Records labels. His TV appearances include The National Concert Hall’s 25th anniversary gala concert entitled Ireland’s Finest.
As Principal conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra he had the privilege of making history and conducting the Orchestra in front of Queen Elizabeth II at Dublin Castle on her recent state visit to Ireland. Film credits include Shaun Davey’s score for The Abduction Club. Keith Harkin - Soloist Keith Harkin comes from County Derry in Northern Ireland, where he started performing for the public at the tender age of four, wowing audiences with his beautiful voice and musical talent. Now at 27, Keith has played to audiences across Europe, Australia, the USA and Canada. He has performed many times at the Tavistock Festival in the UK, and at the Glasgowbury Festival in Northern Ireland and has composed and recorded songs for the BBC show “Dha Theanga”, an Irish language program on the BBC in which he played a lead role. Keith is a guitar-playing singer-songwriter. He was one of the first artists signed to the Verve Records under the new leadership of Chairman David Foster, the Grammy® Award-winning producer who also served as Executive Producer on Keith’s debut solo CD. The self-titled album’s twelve songs range between original compositions and classic covers illustrating Keith’s gifts as both an interpreter and a writer. The song selections on the album truly reflect Harkin’s musical passions— ”I’ve learned that there’s nothing worse than doing a song you don’t love,” he says. As a huge Van Morrison fan, Keith takes particular pride in his version of “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You,” performed as a duet with Colbie Caillat. Even though his solo album is on release, Keith has continued to play an integral role as one of the lead soloists in Celtic Thunder, touring with the show in the US, Canada and Australia in 2014, as well as taking part in the Celtic Thunder Cruise 2014, sailing from Miami on November 8th to Paradise Island/ Nassau in the Bahamas and to the private island of Thunder Bay in the Caribbean. His career with Celtic Thunder began back in 2007, when returning back to Derry from a recording session in London, Keith heard about the auditions for Celtic Thunder that were underway and decided to chance calling in just as the auditions were wrapping up. He auditioned and was immediately invited to attend the final auditions in Dublin where he was ultimately selected as one of the principals for the Celtic Thunder show. The self-described “singer-songwriter-surfer” does not fit into any particular role in Celtic Thunder. As an avid surfer, though, he’s not afraid of taking risks, and is able to enjoy the sense of artistic achievement he’s already attained.
Neil Byrne - Soloist Neil fell in love with music as a kid when he dragged some suitcases down from the attic and started drumming on them. His destiny was sealed when he was six and watched his father’s three-piece band play at a wedding. “The sound just completely blew me away,” he recalls. “I didn’t really understand what I was listening to but I just understood it was absolutely wonderful.” Shortly after Neil swapped his drums for a guitar and then added vocals at the recommendation of his dad. “He told me, ‘Listen, if you learn to sing, you’ll never go hungry.’” Neil took the advice and started playing professionally with his father’s band before branching out into jazz and then forming a retro funk band called Hipple Street that had a fair amount of chart success. If he woke up one day to find that playing music wasn’t a career option, Neil would be designing expensive automobiles. “In addition to being a full time musician, my dad was a Mercedes mechanic,” he explains. “He used to bring home some of the big S-class Mercedes sometimes and as kids, he used to bring us out in them on the duel carriageway.” Underage driving adventures aside; music was always Neil’s first love and by the age of 5 Neil was instinctively drumming on anything in front of him. He swapped his drums for a guitar and added vocals at the recommendation of his dad. “He told me, ‘Listen, if you learn to sing, you’ll never go hungry.’” Neil took the advice and started playing professionally with his father’s band before branching out into jazz and then forming a retro funk band called Hipple Street that had a fair amount of chart success. At the same time he was fortunate to play (and study) alongside one of Irelands most renowned jazz bass players, Frank Hess, and begin to learn about musical arrangements. A mutual friend invited Neil to play at a function for one of Ireland’s most renowned songwriters and producers, Phil Coulter. This led to him playing bass in Phil Coulter’s band on a full time basis. From there Neil was asked to record backing vocals for the Celtic Thunder DVD, then moved to lead guitar and eventually one of the lead vocalists in the show. In 2010, he also released “Sensitive Souls” a solo EP, which Hotpress Magazine says, “shows him as a classy singer of soulful pop,” proving that his dad knew what he was talking about. Since joining Celtic Thunder Neil has toured America, Canada and Australia extensively with the show and joined Keith, George, Ryan, and Colm as a lead vocalist. 2014 sees Neil on the road with Celtic Thunder again; touring Australia in May/ June, the United States in Nov/Dec and onboard the 2nd Celtic Thunder Cruise sailing from Miami to Paradise Island/Nassau in the Bahamas and the private island of Thunder Bay, November 8th – 12th where he will perform in the 2 Celtic Thunder shows as well as his own duet show with Ryan Kelly.
Ryan Kelly - Soloist Ryan comes from The Moy in Co. Tyrone in Northern Ireland. Although he studied accountancy at Queens University, Belfast and is a qualified Chartered Accountant by trade, music and theater have always been Ryan’s true passion. He first began singing in public at the age of seven and has won many accolades and awards for his performances, including SCOR 2007, a national Irish Singing Competition, and the BBC’s Country Cool competition in 2003. In his solo career, Ryan has performed alongside Westlife, Girls Aloud and Simply Red at a televised “Children In Need” Charity Concert. He also released his solo debut album In Time in October 2011 to great critical acclaim and won an Irish Music Award that same year. Ryan’s love of musical theatre has led him to perform the lead role in the Willie Russell musical “Blood Brothers” and the role of Judas Iscariot in “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Ryan is a fanatical sports fan and has played Gaelic football and basketball at national level. One of the highlights of Ryan’s Celtic Thunder journey so far was the opportunity to stand alongside his Celtic Thunder cast mates in TD Garden in Boston and sing the US National Anthem to open a game for his beloved Celtics. One of the original members of Celtic Thunder, Ryan was between banking jobs when his brother told him about the audition for “an Irish touring band of America”. Ryan thought “I’m not doing anything else, so I should see what this is all about. At the audition we had to write a few lines about ourselves and what we’d done. Phil (Coulter) saw that I’d just finished playing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and it turns out he’d produced the first touring Irish production of it.” Celtic Thunder’s producer Sharon Browne was looking for someone who could “sing like they had a mean streak” and when Ryan sang as Judas, it all came together. Ryan’s love for drama made him the perfect pick for the role of the “rogue” or “Dark Destroyer” in Celtic Thunder Shows. Nothing could have prepared Ryan however for the momentum surrounding Celtic Thunder. “It’s great fun being the bad guy,” said Ryan. “For me, there’s no better role, and they’ve given me great songs to do it with. Besides, thankfully I’m a much better singer than I was an accountant!” Ryan has toured the US, Canada and Australia with Celtic Thunder since 2008. In addition to touring Australia his year, Ryan will be in the US in Nov/ Dec for the Celtic Thunder Fall tour and will be onboard the second Celtic Thunder Cruise when it sails from Miami on the MSC Divina, November 8th 2014. He will perform in the 2 Celtic Thunder shows onboard the Cruise, and will be also teaming up with fellow cast mate Neil Byrne to perform their duet show, Acoustic By Candlelight.
Colm Keega - Soloist Colm Keegan is 24 years old and hails from Dublin in Ireland. As a schoolboy, Colm studied under vocal coach Ken Shellard and won several highly acclaimed awards at the Dublin Feis Ceoil singing competition. During this time he was also a lead soloist with the Palestrina Choir (under the direction of Ite O’Donovan) and a regular performer at Dublin’s National Concert Hall. Colm has performed with the Palestrina Choir in Dublin’s Pro-Cathedral, New York’s St Patrick’s Cathedral and St Peter’s Basilica in Rome where the Pope was in attendance. From this lofty beginning, Colm went on to join the prestigious Piccolo Lasso Choir and the Habemus Chamber Choir, with whom he recorded several CDs, partook in an extensive European tour and performed as a lead soloist in Spain, Ireland, and The Czech Republic. Colm also has a great love of musical theater and has played the lead role of Sky Masterson in “Guys and Dolls”, and has been cast in a production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirate’s Of Penance”. Colm won a music scholarship to attend University College Dublin, where he was conferred with an honors Degree in Music and Irish in 2011. While he was studying in UCD he was invited to join the choir of Celtic Woman for their “Songs From The Heart” CD and DVD Public Television special, and has since toured with the production in the US, Europe and Japan. He has also performed with PBS favorites “The Priests” at the O2 Arena in Dublin and alongside Irish tenor Peter Corry at the Helix, Dublin. Colm is a very keen sportsman and plays rugby, Gaelic football and hurling. He has represented Leinster in the Junior Cup for rugby and has been on a Leinster Final winning team for Gaelic Football. In addition to these team sports Colm has also completed several triathlons. He loves travel and new experiences and has travelled widely both with his music career and with the charity Habitat for Humanity, where he has worked building houses with local communities in Ghana and Zambia. Since graduating college in 2011, music has continued to be the main focus in Colm’s life. He is currently honing his skills as a songwriter and a performer and has eclectic musical influences, drawing from his Choral, Irish, Pop and Folk backgrounds, all helping him develop his own style. Colm was invited to join Celtic Thunder by producer Sharon Browne in May 2012 and was delighted to join with the other principals to become the newest member of the show. He performed with Celtic Thunder for the first time at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City in June of 2012 and toured with the show in US and Canada fall tours in 2012 and 2013. 2014 saw Colm’s first Australia tour with Celtic Thunder, he will also return to the US with the show in the Fall and will be onboard the Celtic Thunder Cruise
2014 in November to sail to Paradise Island/Nassau in the Bahamas and the private island of Thunder Bay. He will be performing in both Celtic Thunder shows as well as in his own solo show on board. Emmett O’Hanlon Irish American Baritone Emmett O’Hanlon was born and raised in New York City. Now 23 years old, Emmett admits to having been seduced by music from a very early age. His foray into the world of music began with guitar, piano and drum lessons when he was just six years old. He first met his longtime voice teacher, Terence Goff, when he turned eight and began formal voice training at that stage. While he was still in High School, Emmett made the decision to pursue a future in music, specifically singing. Since then he has received a Bachelors Degree in Voice from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he also performed as a soloist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Once he received his undergraduate degree in music, Emmett went on to join the prestigious Julliard School in New York, where he is currently completing a Masters Degree in Voice, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Robert C. White Jr. He also recently took part in the “Julliard in Paris” project, sponsored by the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. Last season, Emmett also performed in both productions in Julliard Opera’s double bill, Britten’s Curlew River and Vaughan Williams’ Riders to the Sea, as well as in this season’s Metropolitan Opera workshop production of The Sorrows of Frederick. At present, he is preparing for the role of Onegin in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. Emmet has also participated in many Classical training programs and has also been an apprentice artist in the Bel Canto Young Artist Mentoring Program at Caramoor. Emmett is not the only musical member of his family. His mother, who hails from Carrick-on Suir in Co. Tipperary, and his father who comes from Co. Armagh, both sang and were involved with theater from an early age; His elder brother and younger sister have also both studied music at university. In addition to his passion for music, Emmett is an avid sportsman, who loves to surf and snowboard. He is also a huge fan of American football, baseball and most watersports, which he follows with a keen interest. Emmett first met Celtic Thunder producer Sharon Browne in New York City, where she invited him to audition for the show. He is a natural fit with the rest of the soloists in Celtic Thunder, young, energetic and extremely talented, Emmett is looking forward to his next adventure and to touring with Celtic Thunder for the first time ever on the Celtic Thunder Cruise 2014 and as part of the USA Symphony Tour this November.

Shatner’s World - We Just Live In It William Shatner has cultivated a career spanning over 50 years as an awardwinning actor, director, producer, writer, recording artist, and horseman. He is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures and a major philanthropist. His accomplishments in television, film, and stage would take a great deal of time and more space than allotted here. In 1966, Shatner originated the role of “Captain James T. Kirk” in the television series Star Trek. The series spawned a feature film franchise where Shatner returned as Captain Kirk in seven of the Star Trek movies, one of which he directed. Shatner played the title role in the hit television series T.J. Hooker before hosting television’s first reality-based series, Rescue 911. He won Emmys and his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of eccentric lawyer “Denny Crane” on both The Practice and Boston Legal. He received four more Emmy nominations as well as other Golden Globe and SAG Award nods. Shatner’s Raw Nerve, currently airing on Bio, is his own edgy, celebrity interview series. Each episode showcases Shatner getting to know his guest on an intensely personal level, touching upon subjects not normally visited on other talk shows. Guests have discussed topics such as addiction, grief, childhood, marriage, combat and parenthood. His love of music inspired him to record the critically acclaimed album Has Been. The Milwaukee Ballet performed “Common People,” a dance presentation set to several numbers from the record; the event and its preparations are featured the new documentary Gonzo Ballet, which has played to sold out houses at film festivals worldwide. A new musical project, space-inspired album, Seeking Major Tom, featuring a large number of heavy metal covers, as well as songs by U2, Frank Sinatra, Queen and Pink Floyd, was released in October, 2011. Off the screen and broadcast waves, Shatner has authored nearly 30 best-sellers in both the fiction and non-fiction genres. His autobiography, Up Till Now, was a New York Times best-seller. Shatner’s newest book,
Shatner Rules was released in October, 2011. A comic book series – William Shatner Presents – debuted in summer 2009. The series is based on three novels of Shatner’s: Tek War, Man O’ War, and Quest for Tomorrow, along with a brand new title: Chimera. Shatner has been successful in another area — horse breeding. A longtime dedicated breeder of American Quarter horses, he has had enormous success with the American Saddlebred, developing and riding world champions and has won numerous world championships in several equine events. His passions for horses and philanthropy were united when he started the Hollywood Charity Horse Show. The annual event benefits Los Angeles-based children’s charities. Shatner continues to act, write, produce and direct while still making time to work with charities and further his passion in equestrian sports. He and his wife, Elizabeth and three married children live in Los Angeles.

Encore Society Have you heard about MPAC’s planned giving program? After providing for your family and loved ones, you may want to remember the Mayo Performing Arts Center in your plans. A bequest, annuity or trust will help prepare our organization for future growth. A planned gift to MPAC will ensure that everything you cherish about this institution - from the celebrated artists that grace our stage season after season to the extensive education and community engagement programs that touch thousands of people each year - remains for generations to come. We’d also love to hear from you if you’ve already included MPAC in your plans. By informing us now, we will automatically enroll you as a lifetime member of the Encore Society, an honorary recognition group for individuals who have named MPAC in their estate plans. Members of the Encore Society enjoy special benefits and privileges. If you are interested in leaving a legacy to MPAC, or would like more information, please contact Marcia Hunter, Major Gifts Manager at mhunter1@mayoarts.org or at 973-539-0345 ext 6514. Thank you.
