Proud to support MPAC

A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR Based on the hit 2003 Paramount movie, School of Rock is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music! What a perfect show for the return of our spring musical after a 3-year hiatus from the MPAC main stage! We are officially back and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock the Musical workshopped in New York’s Gramercy Theater before officially opening on Broadway at The Winter Garden Theatre in the summer of 2015. The production received four Tony nominations, including Best Musical. This show has made our short list of possible spring musical shows for the last several years, however, we knew it would come with some really big challenges. I knew we would have the perfect Dewey Finn in Guest Artist and MPAC Teacher Jon Rodriguez, but would we be able to cast the rest of this production? The casting requirements were different than anything we had done in the past – a show driven mostly by a group of 9-13 year old triple threat performers, some of whom had to play instruments (and play them really well) to meet the challenges of a Broadway score! Well, we took the chance and hit the jackpot!!! Our leading roles had challenges of their own – a Rosalie who could handle the many nuances of the role and sing all over the scale, a Ned and a Patty who would could create unique characters with impeccable comic timing, and a group of more-than-ensemble performers who could make the many supporting roles interesting and memorable. Again – JACKPOT!! It sounds cliché, but I really can’t say enough good things about this incredible group of young performers! Their talent, commitment and enthusiasm will surely speak for itself on our stage. To say I have loved every minute working with all of them is truly an understatement. This show would not have happened without an incredible Production staff. Charles Santoro, you are a musical genius and outstanding collaborator. Chris and Heather Ball, I am so grateful for all of your many contributions to this production. It truly would not have happened without you. Thank you for your integrity, dedication and sense of humor! To our Designers, Stage Managers, IATSE Crew, Production Assistants, Orchestra, and MPAC staff, thank you, thank you! We are so lucky to have such a talented and dedicated team who all share in our mission to put on the highest quality production while giving our students a positive, nurturing and professional experience. To our audience, MPAC families and community, thank you so much for your constant and continued support. We are honored to share this production with you today! If it brings you even half the joy it has brought us over the last few months then, again, we’ll hit the jackpot! Sincerely,

Cathy Roy Director

Jake, Always keep a song in your heart. We are so proud of you! Love - Mom, Dad, Johnny and Jason

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO We are so thrilled to be presenting our Spring Musical for the first time in three years. The cast and crew have put in so much time, work and energy into making this a production we just know you are going to love. School of Rock is the ultimate example of the amazing work that MPAC’s education department continues to do in our community and throughout New Jersey. Young performers get to work with and learn from experienced professionals who share their love for the performing arts in a team environment. After having many programs disrupted due to the pandemic, it has been wonderful to once again welcome children into our building for Performing Arts School classes, to hear our talented Performing Arts Company entertain at senior centers, non-profit events and galas, to recognize young musicians as Music Students of the Month, to send out teachers into area schools for residency programs, and to expand our Miracle Project performing arts program for children on the autism spectrum and with other special needs. We look forward to a full restoration of all MPAC education programs in the coming year, and to once again provide performing arts experience for over 40,000 children and their families. Our dedication to arts education goes beyond merely teaching someone to sing, dance or act. It is focused on inspiring creativity and improving communication skills. The skills gained in arts education go far beyond the stage – they inspire confidence, cooperation and teamwork – skills essential no matter what path your child may follow. I would like to thank our many sponsors, led by Trend Motors, for their generous support of School of Rock. On behalf of the staff and Board of Trustees of Mayo Performing Arts Center, I would like to congratulate Cathy Roy, our Education Director and Director of School of Rock, her entire cast and creative team, the production crew and especially our wonderful youth performers on a job well done. We’re all so proud! Best wishes,

Allison Larena President & CEO Mayo Performing Arts Center
