Starlight Award Friday, November 16, 2018 The Park Savoy Estate Florham Park, NJ

Dear Joe, We Are So Pleased To Honor You Tonight, and So Grateful For Your Years of Enlightened Leadership of MPAC. CONGRATULATIONS!

Sincerely, Bud and Sudy Mayo

Welcome to the Starlight Ball! Dear Friends, Patrons and Donors, I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board of Trustees of the Mayo Performing Arts Center since 2002, and as its Chair since 2011. Over that time span, MPAC has grown in so many ways. We’ve had a major expansion to our stagehouse and completely renovated the front of the house. The number of performances has doubled, and the caliber of artists is world class. Whether it has been an artist like Ringo Starr, our Spring youth productions or The Miracle Project classes, there have been too many memorable events that have taken place here to list. My time as Chairman concludes at the end of this calendar year. It has been my privilege and pleasure to have served this organization for so many years, and to see the positive impact it has made in the lives of children, the joy it has brought to our patrons and the effect it has made on the community. I would like to thank our Starlight Ball committee for honoring me with this award. The committee surpasses itself every year in providing us with an outstanding evening that ensures that tonight will be a resounding success. Thank you for a memorable evening. Thank you to my fellow trustees for your leadership and guidance in support of this important arts organization over the years. You give tirelessly of your time, services and resources to keep the Theatre on sound footing. We are so fortunate to have an incredible staff here at MPAC, led by Allison Larena. Their hard work and stewardship of this wonderful arts center are greatly appreciated as well. I am very confident that the future of MPAC is in good hands, and I look forward to the exciting opportunities that await this organization moving forward. The best is truly yet to come. I hope that you will remain committed and dedicated to supporting MPAC and its exciting and innovative programs. I know I will. Enjoy this evening of entertainment and dancing with the knowledge that your generosity is supporting MPAC’s arts education and community outreach programs for the diverse population we serve! Sincerely,

Joseph M. Goryeb Chairman, Board of Trustees

A man who is a true leader and has the utmost integrity. A man who is hard working, kind and leads by example. A man we are lucky enough to call our Dad and husband. We love you so very much and are extremely proud of you today and every day!

Welcome to the Starlight Ball! Dear Friends and Supporters, Welcome and thank you for joining us tonight for our 20th Annual Starlight Ball, honoring Joseph M. Goryeb, our Chairman of the Board of Trustees. We hope you all get into the spirit of Casino Royale during this wonderful evening of entertainment, dancing and fundraising that celebrates the Mayo Performing Arts Center. Mayo Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit organization, serves the Northern New Jersey area with over 200 performances annually that touch the lives of over 200,000 patrons, including over 40,000 children. For 24 years, we have brought the world’s greatest entertainers to our hometown, provided vibrant arts education experiences for children, and served as an economic engine that drives more than $15 million in annual revenue to the area. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and utmost admiration to our honoree, Joe Goryeb, our outgoing Board of Trustees Chairman, for his extraordinary service to our organization. Joe has been pivotal in turning a small community theatre into a top 30 Performing Arts Center in the country. His leadership, guidance and generosity has been vital to making us what we are today. I also thank Scott McCreary, Jason Sofge, and Jamie Westberry, who will be entertaining you tonight along with our own talented Performing Arts Company. Every year, the highlight of the Starlight Ball is when our Performing Arts Company takes the stage. These talented young performers volunteer their time and serve as our ambassadors, performing at many venues throughout the year, including hospitals, senior centers and for nonprofit organizations. We are so proud of their dedication and hard work. It takes an amazingly talented group of dedicated people to make this great fundraising event possible. This includes the Starlight Ball Committee, MPAC’s hardworking staff, and its committed Board of Trustees under the leadership of Joseph M. Goryeb. This is truly a team effort to organize the Starlight Ball every year and make it a night to remember! Thank you for supporting our major fundraising event of the year. Enjoy the evening! Sincerely,

Allison Larena President and CEO

The Park Savoy Estate, like any historic site, has had many lives and has even more stories to tell from its past. At the heart of the Park Savoy, you can still find the structure of the original 1870s house around which the estate was built. Following the house’s sale in 1918, it was remodeled and expanded. It was sold in 1922 to New Jersey crime syndicate associates Samuel “Shimmy” Blue and Jacob Weinberg, and thus began its dramatic history as a Speakeasy known as the “Canary Cottage,” selling liquor during the Prohibition era. Where’s Joe? Ho, Ho, Ho, Where did Joe go? The ceiling is falling, and the lights don’t work; Allison is screaming, “The contractor’s a jerk!” Water’s on the floor, The banker’s at the door; The audience is yelling, “We won’t take it anymore!” It never was like this, When Joe was in the chair; He always was so perfect, With his perfect-looking hair. But now we’re going down, Nothing is going well; There is no place to park, The tickets will not sell.

~

And then we wake from this nightmarish dream, All is content, all is serene; Joe has kept us clear of harm’s way, So now we rise to cheer “Hooray!” Congratulations on tonight’s honor, We do not say “good-bye”; We send you our best wishes, Keep that twinkle in your eye. And if you feel a lacking, Like a pie without a wedge; Remember your friends at MPAC, And renew your five-year pledge.

Congratulations, Joe, on tonight’s well-deserved recognition. Jeff & Karen Kirby

MPAC thanks the Performing Arts Company for their Performance at tonight’s Starlight Ball

The Performing Arts Company (PAC) is an ensemble of 34 students, ages 13-21, who perform Broadway-style songs at hospitals, community events, nonprofit fundraisers and local/regional festivals, free-ofcharge throughout the state. For 13 years, the program has been providing a platform for youth who share a passion for the performing arts to use their talents to give back to the community as they receive comprehensive training, also free-of-charge, from experienced teaching artists. Each PAC member is a talented singer, dancer and actor who has successfully auditioned. The secondary population served is the 18,000+ audience members annually who enjoy PAC performances. The PAC performs at about 30 New Jersey venues each season. In addition to frequently performing with MPAC’s accomplished guest artists, they have been invited to perform at Walt Disney World, the White House, and with Kristin Chenoweth in My Love Letter to Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre and the Dramatists Guild Fund Gala at Gotham Hall in NYC, elevating their artistic learning experience.
