I-D is a British magazine, founded in 1980’s, its dedicated to fashion, music, art and youth culture. The women featured in I-D magazine appeared much more flirtatious. Women modeling for I-D magazine are mostly shown and shotted, either showing their shoulders facing the photographer, or touching their lips or covering their breasts. Their make up is bold, but at the same time it has this feminine look and attitude. I-D audiences are mostly young aged, and trendy. That’s why I-D shows men and women from different ages. I-D uses a lot of phallic symbolism with female models, especially on their front covers. This reflects their over sexualized representation of women. On their Cover, it’s a simple magazine, where we don’t find much writings. I-D reflects a multicultural audience, people interested in this magazine, are involved in creative careers, arts and discovering new things. For all those reasons, I decided to chose I-D magazine, because in the coming ArtBook, I want to present a Limited Edition version for those youth, to discover my culture, and beloved country Lebanon, from different point of view.

A lot of people, now and then, ask themselves a simple question; “ What am I?” In fact we all find ourselves wondering what we are or what humans are. Human are a complex beings. Just trying to understand life and what it means to be human is a futile undertaking. However, no matter what roads a person choose in life, nor the roads life force upon him , he is nothing but a dust on a heavily Earth. As the Lord says, “For You Are Dust, and To Dust You Shall Return” In the depth of life, exists the finest sweetness and greatest quality. The sweetness of being alive, is what one feels when he is aware his presence. Yet, deeper joy is realized upon acknowledging the essential miracle of existence itself. A point of advice to my fellow beings, is to live life fully, for life only exists once. But, never forget the sum of generations coming after you. Be Human by Nature; Humane is Nature!
Root In vascular plants, the root is the organ of a plant that typically lies below the surface of the soil. Roots can also be aerial or aerating, that is, growing up above the ground or especially above water. Furthermore, a stem normally occurring below ground is not exceptional either (see rhizome). Therefore, the root is best defined as the non-leaf, non-nodes bearing parts of the plant’s body. However, important internal structural differences between stems and roots exist. Cedars Of God: The Cedars of God (Arabic: ّبرلا زرأArz ar-Rabb “Cedars of the Lord”) is one of the last vestiges of the extensive forests in Lebanon cedar, that once thrived across Mount Lebanon in ancient times. The highest Cedar Tree in Lebanon, is 40 meter high and a 2,5 meter wide. The Lebanon Cedar is frequently mentioned in the Bible.
Lebanon, officially known as the Lebanese Republic, is a country situated in Western Asia. Lebanon’s location is on the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin. The Arabian hinterland, facilitated in its rich history and its shape, in a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity. Just 10,452 km2… It is the smallest recognized sovereign state on the mainland Asian continent. Lebanon was the home of the Phoenicians and their kingdoms, a maritime culture that flourished for over a thousand years Despite its small size, the country has developed a well-known culture and has been highly influential in the Arab world, powered by its large diaspora. Because of its financial power and diversity in its heyday, Lebanon was referred to as the “Switzerland of the East” during the 1960s. Its capital, Beirut, attracted so many tourists that it was known as “The Paris Of The Middle East” in the 1970s. Lebanon is the most religiously diverse country in the Middle East. It has 18 different religion.
THAT ’70s SOMETHING… The 70’s haven’t really been matched. There was a spirit of creativity that is sort of timeless and is still appealing and still influences creative people today. When you think 1970s’ fashion, you’re probably thinking bell bottoms and fitted shirts. That was a classic look throughout the decade, but there was a lot more to 70’s style than this one look. It was about glam rock and disco styles that introduced platform shoes, bright colors, glitter, sequins, and satin. Fashion during this time was so varied and experimental that Vogue declared, “There are no rules in the fashion game now.” It was all about individuality.
A MODERN REWIND 70’S Anyone who paid attention to the catwalk, these past few seasons will know that the 70’s have inspired international and worldwide designers such as Victoria Beckham, Chloe, Stella McCartney amongst others, for a while now. That decade was quite simply bold and overstated at its best. Beirut at 1970’s was nicknamed as “ The Paris Of The Middle East” From colony to couture, no other Middle Eastern city has proved itself to be a hub of art and fashion quite like Beirut. The fusion of East and West, of tradition and modernity, earned the Lebanese capital this name. War-torn and tired, the people of Beirut show they can turn tragedy into cultural innovation. The city constantly proves itself to be the center of Middle Eastern cultural innovation. And that’s was what we saw in the SS19 couture collections of the Lebanese international fashion designers. A New Modern Vision of the 70’s but in 2019!

Zuhair Murad ‘’ Look-at-me sparkle!! My women want to be seen. ’’
George Hobeika ‘’ I have seen all, I have heard all, I have forgotten all... my Marie Antoinette, my inspiration. ’’
LEBANON AND ITS TABOOS’ Family life is very important in the Lebanese culture. Family functioning is associated with the values of collectivism. Lebanon is a conservative kind-of society, where some topics, are still considered as a taboo to talk about in public. For my Still-life photoshoots, I chose four of these taboos, and decided to represent them in a shape shifters photo session, or in other words in an abstract way. These topics are : Sexuality, Civil Marriage, Marriage from different religion, and inequality between men and women in society. I believe that people from my age, are trying to change these ideas, And I hope that through these photoshoots I could indorse this. Give hope to our youth, our failed history that led to this taboos, will be their education. I see pain and suffering as an opportunity. People see that, what they were doing isn’t doing much; that it is the time to stand up for themselves and to take responsibility. The truth is, Only a small amount of Lebanese are contributing to the destruction. Even though most lost their voices, behind the scene, our powerful youth are waiting to create this change in society. Today it’s different. This is the moment of our emancipation! Change is Possible.
