CONTEST
Project description
Mama Ocllo and Manco Cápac emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca in search of the empire of the sun, considered divine by men, they founded the INCA empire where their golden scepter remained nailed. The project aims to unite this past with the present through light, and thus find the divine. A longitudinal box inserted in the ground connecting the land with the water and the views through a line of light, which is the distinction between a world of darkness and at the same time the connection with the ancestors, their memory and their divinity.

Territorial development for
urban-rural integration in Cotogchoa
URBANISM
Project description
The rural town of Cotogchoa is located in Rumiñahuí canton, which is in the process of growth, due to its proximity to the Valle de los Chillos and the city of Quito. This territory has gone through several transitions in its conformation process: agrarian reform, industrial activity and agricultural activities. This work characterizes the territory through polygons or transect zones for its study and subsequent design. It is presented the need to address the peripheral and rural areas through urban design, seeking to contribute to a better use of rural land, avoiding conflict relationships between land uses and orienting the territory towards more equitable social dynamics. In this way, principles and strategies of ordering and rural development in Cotogchoa are proposed with the principles of: borders, linking and recovery between polygons; within which the strategies of housing, mobility, facilities, public space, green system; and as an articulating piece, agriculture.

The houses has typologies that respond to the characteristics of each polygon with a common factor: the agriculture. There are specifics area in the territory where a house can be built. The rest of the territory, are made to reduce the implementation of new housing. If there is new housing, the one need respects the typologies linked to agriculture.

STRATEGIES
The main road axes in Cotogchoa are proposed for connects all the territory and link to other nearby settlements. The conectivity will contribute to the exchange of products and with the better mobility. The complementary roads are planned to generate smaller-scale connections that benefit the housing and the inhabitants of Cotogchoa. The treatment in the roads that promotes forms of mobility such as bike lanes and streets focused on pedestrians. The equipment and public space are proposed to generate new relationships between the inhabitants and the territory. These interventions are not planned to be isolated points in the territory. All territory is conected and provides service to all Cotogchoa. They are classified into two categories: built equipment and public space. Agriculture is the element that integrates the new and old housing with a rooted way of life in the territory. Agriculture is also used to vindicate the injustices of some historical processes in the territory It represents the way of life, the territory conformation, historical processes and the main economic activity. This is why all the polygons includes agriculture.

ARCH.DESIGN
Project description
The project is located in the Larrea´s neighboorhoud which is a central area of Quito. Its citizen activities is concentrated in this place. If the parking is eliminated It would result in a affordable lower cost housing for any population strata and also contribute to densify the city and reduce urban expansion. The concept of “transportation oriented development” is applied in the places where are good systems of public transport, equipment, shops and services. Recovering public spaces is necessary in order to pedestrians, cyclists and citizens can develop their activities.

KHAM:WISDOM
HOUSE FOR
WOMEN CONTEST
Project description
This building has been designed based on one of the most important themes of all time - gender equality. The project will be located in Senegal, thus helping to solve problems locally, which will then have a huge, positive impact on the whole world. Also, the women's house aims at the overall development of the population and their involvement in changing obsolete statutes among the people. It is no coincidence that the project has circular forms and flowing lines. These shapes give people a sense of security, integrity, softness and comfort. A circle can be used to describe the circulation of all living and non-living things on Earth. Here too, it is the relationship between people and their sharing of knowledge and experience, as indicated by the name of the project: KHAM. Wisdom house, where "KHAM" means "Wisdom" in the native language of the local people. Each person contributes throughout their lives and one piece at a time builds a healthy society. So too are the modules used in the project, depicting connection and structure. The module consists of wooden sticks, which in turn serve not only structural duties, but also as furniture. The module, too, has been devised to be easy to build by hand, as the sticks are light and the connection between them is simple. There is a visible contrast in the design between the materials that have been used, such as the thick, powerful wall harmonizing with the lightweight module covered in fabric. This symbolizes opposites, and that the two sides must always keep a balance.

2019 HONOR MENTION - CONTEST
Project description
The intervention area is the railway line that crosses the south of the Metropolitan District of Quito from north to south. It crosses several neighborhoods of the city, the area where it will be intervened is very diverse. Geographically, the intervention area is located in the southern part of the city, crossing streams, plains, consolidated urban, industrial, peripheral and rural areas. Which makes possible an infinity of types of intervention. The southern sector of the city has different land uses along the railway, passing from service areas, housing, industry, agriculture and urban livestock and unconsolidated areas, the railway axis serves to connect these different uses and promote exchange and interaction between them. Neighborhood commerce is an important element in the city, the railroad passes through two large markets, Chiriyacu and Mayorista, in addition to passing through neighborhoods with great economic activity of a neighborhood character. The railroad crosses different natural elements such as streams, parks, green and unconsolidated areas, being an element that enables the integration of these spaces to generate a network of public and natural space The railroad crosses the southern sector of the city longitudinally parallel to BRT-type transport axes and the future Quito Metro, which is a potential to connect neighborhoods and micro-centers in a more specific way. Generating a new alternative mobility model.

A connection square is planned between "La Nueva Tola" and "La Tola Baja" on a section of the depressed Velasco Ibarra Avenue. The square replaces the existing pea-tonal bridge and gives greater importance to pedestrians. A communal house is proposed for the "La Nueva Tola" neighborhood in order to have a space of integration, coexistence and development for the inhabitants of the neighborhood. This equipment includes an area for recycling organic and inorganic waste. In addition, it includes an area of itinerant market. A redesign of the existing linear park on Velasco Ibarra Avenue which includes the implementation of urban gardens and the introduction of new plant species that contribute to air purification. In addition, the creation of a bicycle path and pedestrian walkways that connect the road solution.

“La Nueva Tola” CONTEST
Project description
The physical gaps in the "La Nueva Tola" neighborhood identified by the residents are not on a neighborhood scale, but rather on a city scale. One of them is the presence of the Machángara River's ravine, the contamination of its waters and the disused space. For this reason, an equipment proposed works, justly, for the service of the city in general. As an equipment for the city, it is proposed to generate a linear park in the Machangara River Gorge (natural limit of the "La Nueva Tola" neighborhood) that connects the "El Trébol" road solution with the "La Vicentina" neighborhood. In addition, We motivate alternative methods of mobility, generatig direct relations between the inhabitants of the city and nature. The flora and the urban fauna is stimulated. From the "La Nueva Tola" neighbourhood. A direct access to the linear park is proposed. There are also water treatment and purification plants, an exercise area for children and adults, an exercise and training area for pets, a bicycle path, pedestrian walkways and equipment for research into the city's plant and animal species.

Project description
A city that connects the population and its sectors in conditions of respect. Quito as a city that reduces vulnerability and allows the development of citizenship through active and inclusive integration. Promote public space as a platform for cohesion and solidarity. Identification of the types of violence that take place in the city and solve them in a participatory way with the affected sectors and generate it. The corridor as the safe axis of the city. It is an area that crosses the city and with which all citizens will have in their imaginations. Additionally, much of the route is in relatively safe areas (because nowhere is totally out of risk). This is why we propose that it be a safe axis both from the physical and social point of view. Take this into account for architectural design. Include in the regulations to include these safe spaces within municipal processes and protocols. The efficient management of natural resources and services allows us to mitigate the impact of human beings on nature and ensure the adaptation that is required in the face of changes that may occur. The axis that represents the metropolitan corridor unites and welcomes all the differences. This should also take into account risk management. All accesses to this important axis must be focused on the physical and social differences that citizens may have. Establish security mechanisms in corridors so that citizens can fully enjoy them. Forest rangers network for the ecological corridor of the foothills of Pichincha in order to control deforestation and control illegal waste disposal. Implementation of security policies according to the type of violence that affects each sector. Propose a discourse of integration of the population that recognizes the diversity of contexts of each citizen and their weight in the construction of a city free of violence. Recognition of diversity in the construction of an interdependent citizenship.
