CLASSIC CONSTRUCTIONS: A Classic Approach to Business

Brothers Michael and George Tanchevski established Classic Constructions in 1987. Michael and George grew up in Wollongong, where Michael completed his carpentry and cabinetmaking apprenticeship, and George refined his operational skills as a Bank Manager. Like any great team, the duo played to each other’s strengths, founding a company in which Michael led a team of skilled tradies and George ran the company’s financial operations.

After a decade of operation, Classic Constructions had already earned a reputation for exceptional quality in the residential sector through recommendations from industry partners, satisfied homeowners, and return clients. Surrounded by such passion for the industry, it was only natural that Michael and George’s sons followed in their footsteps.

Michael’s son, Jason, joined the company in 1999, after completing a degree in Construction Management at the University of Canberra. George’s son, Jonathan, joined the business in 2011, bringing his experience as an accountant. Jonathan’s introduction brought with it the happy consensus that Classic Constructions would remain a family-run business for many years to come.

Now, Jason and Jonathan have both been working as Owners and Directors of Classic Constructions for eight years. Michael and George’s wisdom and expertise continue to be a vital influence on the business, as they consult on opportunities for development and growth. They highly regard the benefits of working with family: sharing unconditional trust and common core values, and have even brought another family member into the fold. Jonathan’s brother, Kevin, joined the team in 2016 and solidified the company’s growth into the commercial sector through an extension to the new business named Pier Projects.

With their deep appreciation for relationships, it is no surprise that the Tanchevski’s warm-hearted attitude expands to their colleagues. Classic Constructions employs many generational trades who either completed their apprenticeships with past employees or are related to older trades. The team also contains several trades who have been working with the Tanchevski’s for over two decades. Classic Constructions forged these longstanding relationships with colleagues and partners through strong commitment to loyalty and common values.

As one of the MBA members that will be celebrating their 30-year milestone in 2023, the Classic Constructions team’s abilities to identify strengths and respect partners are clearly key factors in maintaining their longevity in the industry.
