MARIA BANDSTRA interior design creative
! o Hell I’m Maria, a third year interior design student at Iowa State University. This portfolio exhibits my work in programs such as Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD, as well as some hand-rendering projects I’ve completed during my time here at the university. Although I’m proud of the projects I’ve completed in this curriculum, the lessons I’ve learned, knowledge I’ve gained, and relationships I’ve formed in the past three years don’t show on these pages, and that’s what has shaped me the most as a designer. Thank you for taking the time to browse through this portfolio!

retail THE REAL REAL This project focused on a design process from initial ideation to finalized concept and plans. We thought beyond the scope of interior ‘decorators’ and addressed how to solve a greater problem in an entire market: the decline of retail. Though our retailer, TheRealReal, is a consignment store, we focused on giving customers an innovative experience that could not be achieved online. 15' - 8"

PROCESS WORK
Strong angles and bold features define the visual concept for this retail store. Although this store is second-hand, we want our customers to have a shopping experience that feels nothing short of luxurious.

CONTRAPOSE
Contrapose: (v) the act of placing opposite or against, especially in contrast This residential project combined aesthetics and function in a 2500 sq ft residence. This project included client interviews, site research, and special needs consideration in its program. Contrast of natural, raw materials and a soft comfortability guided material and furnishing selection.

EAST VILL AGE LOF T This introduction to residential interior design focused on programming, site research, and hand drafting. Research into the East VIllage Des Moines area that where the loft is located influenced a concept centered around color, luxury, and spontaneity in form. This was achieved through dramatic curves and unexpected accents and features.
