Types of Hear Loss & Common Causes Associated with the Samen There are three primary types of hear loss which makes one believe that it might be easy to understand these but these are most difficult to cognizance owe it to the nuances attached with these. It becomes puzzling at time so here follows a brief about them:

Sensorineural hearing loss

The term itself implies that the hearing has a got everything to do with the web of nerves which carry the impulses to and fro, inside cochlea (part of inner ear). When an individual suffers from the sensorineural hearing loss, it implies that either some of the nerves are missing or are damaged, explains a school for the deaf. These nerves are responsible for delivering the sound waves to the brain to make sense of the sound generated, so a problem with these nerves then won’t transfer the sound messages to the brain. Based on the number of the nerves which are non-functional the level and intensity of hearing loss differs.

This particular type of loss makes the sound unclear and fuzzy. This loss can effect problem with some frequencies or all of them which makes this loss not easy to be detected at first place. You can also suffer from these with the birth or can develop these with age. -Conductive Hearing Loss

It occurs when the nerves in the cochlea are working normal but the sound wave does not reach the cochlea only. This is majorly because the cochlea is not able to identify the vibrations as something is blocking the path of these sound waves. Conductive makes the vibrations sound like the ear is plugged from outside but other noise like your own sound or chewing food are heard fine. According to the special schools in Noida, the loss caused by this can be temporary or permanent and the severity of the loss depends on the kind of blockage barring the sound waves.

-Mixed Hearing Loss

As the term suggests it is a mix of hearing losses including both sensorineural and conductive hearing loss. It is due to its mixed nature that the cause of it is a blend of the above mentioned hearing impairments claims the school for the deaf. Here are some most common causes of these hearing losses as per the study conducted by the special schools in Noida:  Exposure to excessive noise is the basic reason for hearing loss. Noise levels exceeding 85db are injurious to the cochlea present in the inner ear. In these cases one should ensure noise reduction remedies and should opt for ear protections.  Lack of knowledge is another cause to the hearing impairments. For this situation it becomes imperative that you teach your child about hearing and the fragility of the mechanism as a whole.
