ST. PATRICK- 'The Patron Saint of Ireland':

St. Patrick was the son of a minor local official in Roman Britain. When he was a child, he was a moderate follower & worshipper of the religion. However, it was later in the history books when he was captured by the Irish & later escaped from their custody. Then, he started to take religion as a serious affair & devoted himself to Christianity. His devotion to Christianity was way beyond many & something that made him a preacher of the beautiful religion. There was a dream that St. Patrick saw, and according to the dream, he was commanded to return to Ireland for the sake of helping the Irish people find Christianity.

The impact of his preaching was slow, but slowly & gradually, it was much evident in the Irish people. He gained followers and openly started his preaching to the Irish public. It was because of his efforts for the people & the religion of Christianity that the Irish started accepting Christianity & it soon became the dominant religion in Ireland.

WHY ST. PATRICK'S DAY IS A CELEBRATION:

The day's celebrations originated in Ireland, a gorgeous country in Europe. Most of these celebrations were religious, but it's a bank holiday & a public holiday only in Newfoundland & Labrador province. The rest of the provinces & territories follow the day as an observation in memory of the great Saint.

As the Irish immigrants started to arrive in Canada, they brought their culture & traditions with them. As part of these customs, culture & traditions is the feast of the Patron Saint of Ireland, which these Irish immigrants just injected into the Canadian norms & cultural practices. These norms & practices are still evident & are now a part of Canadian's cultural practices. Therefore, the St. Patrick's Day feast on the 17th of March every year is a key part of the culture & practices introduced by the Irish people in Canada.

People love it not only as part of the feast, a celebration & a get-to-gather but also as a key part of their religious authority & supremacy. As well all know, Canada is a multicultural country with many different religions that are worshipped simultaneously. It soon, in Canada, became a symbol of an Irish identity rather than more of a religious festival. Just like Christmas, also known as Xmas, Eid for Muslims & Diwali for Hindus. Today people from different religions & backgrounds in Canada celebrate the day as part of their religious traditions.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY- 'SOME COMMON SYMBOLS ASSOCIATED':

Some common symbols are associated with St. Patrick's Day as the day brings joy to be together apart from just religious symbolization & motivations. The colour green is a very common symbol celebrated on the day & makes everything go green. It's not about environmental friendliness, & ‘Going Green’. However, it's the significance of the colour with St. Patrick's Day. Greenery everywhere also is heavenly or related to heaven & this is why it is associated with St. Patrick's Day, which makes you closer to religion & closer to heaven. The other few symbols also include the Shamrock & Leprechauns.

Shamrock is one of the most common symbols you will see during Saint Patrick's Day. It's a three-leaf clover symbolizing both St. Patrick's Day & Ireland as a whole. According to the traditions that are mainly Irish, it's the Shamrock that St. Patrick used to explain the concept behind the Trinity which is indeed a fundamental Christian concept.

The colour green is a symbol that also symbolizes Irish nationalism. According to a patriotic poet, 'the whole world is Irish on the 17th of March'.

HOW THE DAY IS A CELEBRATION IN CANADA:

On St. Patrick's Day, some parades take place in Montreal. These are the annual parades that take place in Montreal, Quebec. It's an almost three to four-hour parade on the streets of Montreal and makes huge crowds gather on the streets. The happenings of the day events cover live performers, marching bands, and many people dressed up in costumes to join the parade.

Every Saint Day is important in terms of the religious following of the day & contributions of the Saint to Christianity. However, St. Patrick's Day is not only religiously related to Ireland but has values of patriotism for the great nation of Ireland. The feast of the day on the 17th of March is indeed a massive celebration for the people of Ireland & so it is for the many Canadians who celebrate the day with equal passion.
