The next FIFA world Cup will be held in Qatar in the year 2022. This will be the 22nd Edition of the Football world cup which is the most followed & most played sport in the world. Apart from being the most played & most followed, Football is also the highest paid sport in the world. FIFA is a body that organizes and monitors Football activity all over the world, & it’s headquarter is situated in Zurich. Gianni Infantino, the Swiss-Italian footballer is the current President of FIFA, the International body that strictly monitors the sport. The Senior Vice-President of FIFA is Salman Bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa who was born in Bahrain.

The next FIFA world Cup will be the second edition of the World Cups overall that will be taking place in Asia. The last time it happened in Asia was in 2002 i.e. Korea-Japan, and was won by Brazil, as they attained their 5th title. Brazil also became the country with most titles i.e. 5 titles since its first Football title in 1958 in Stockholm, Sweden. However, as a matter of fact this World Cup holds huge significance as this is the first time it’s taking place in Middle-East, and first time hosted by a Muslim nation, i.e. Qatar. A country that is very small in terms of area, but as far as GDP Per Capita is concerned it is on top of the list. Why Qatar deserves its place? As a matter of fact they have proved that to FIFA that they are the most deserving candidates to host the most prestigious sports i.e. World Cup. The next edition after 2022 will be jointly hosted by Canada, USA & Mexico in 2026.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF FOOTBALL WORLD CUPS:

The first FIFA world Cup was held 90 years ago in 1930 in Uruguay & was won by Uruguay. After that second world cup was held in Rome, Italy in 1934 and then later in 1938 in France. After the third edition there was a huge gap of 12 years as the tournament was postponed twice due to World War II. The next edition was held in 1950, i.e. post World War II, in Brazil and then in 1954 it came to Europe again and was held in Switzerland. The Scandinavia came into limelight for the first time hosting the 6th edition and it was hosted by Sweden, who also played in the finals, but lost to Brazil. The next edition was held in Chile and the 8th edition of the FIFA World Cup was the first World Cup held in England in 1966. It was not only the first time

English hosted the trophy, but for the first time England won the FIFA world Cup as well.

In 1970, North America came into the hosting list for the first time with the world Cup being hosted in Mexico. Later in 1974 it was held in the divided Germany, and took place in West Germany to be precise. The 11th FIFA edition was held in Argentina, and they won the world Cup in their home country. The 12th Edition again came to Europe and this time it was held in Spain, and was won by Italy for the third time. Mexico hosted the cup again in 1986 and then later in 1990 it was held in Italy again after 1934. The 15th Edition of FIFA world Cups was held for the first time in USA in 1994 and the Super power became the host for the very first time. The 16th edition took place in France and French were also the proud winners of the home World Cup.

FIFA WORLD CUPS SINCE 2002:

Interestingly, the 17th edition became the first one in Asia, i.e. Japan and South Korea became the joint host in 2002. The rest of the three being, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil hosted the Cup again in 2014 after 1950. The World Cup was held first time in African continent when South Africa was the first African nation to host the World Cup. The last edition of the FIFA world Cups was the 21st edition that was held for the very first time in Russia in 2018.

CONSTRUCTION OF STADIUMS & OTHER DEVELOPMENTS IN QATAR:

The Qatar 2022 will be held in eight stadiums that are being newly constructed to host the biggest sports trophy in the history of the games. Two stadiums have been already completed that includes Khalifa International Stadium and Al-Janoub Stadium. Three more stadiums i.e., Education City Stadium, Al-Rayan Stadium & Al-Bayt stadium are set to be inaugurated during 2022. All stadiums will be ready and delivered well in advance of the tournament. Qatar will be the 18th country to host the tournament and there has been massive developments already in place before the world cup takes place officially.

FIFA world cups is the only event in the history of all the Sports that are played and hosted all over the world. It holds mega significance since three editions took place Pre-World War II and is the most medieval amongst all the sports world cups that are ever held.
