Bridges Trust Poised for 80 Years

EXECUTIVE ROLES ANNOUNCED TO CONTINUE LEGACY

As Omaha-based wealth management firm Bridges Trust prepares to celebrate eight decades in business next year, its leadership team makes clear that 80 years is more than a number.

A legacy of service

Executive officer roles are transitioning to set Bridges Trust up for another generation of growth. From a modest start at the end of World War II the firm now manages $10 billion in assets, serving clients in 40 states and employing more than 80 people.

Effective July 1, former President and Chief Operating Officer Nick Wilwerding became chief executive officer and former Senior Vice President and Relationship Manager Jack Holmes became chief investment officer.

Edson “Ted” Bridges III, who’s been with the firm since 1983, transitioned from CEO and CIO to co-chairman of Bridges Holding Company.

Bridges is the third generation in the namesake firm. It was founded in 1945 by his grandfather Marvin Bridges. The founder’s son, and Ted’s father, Edson L. Bridges, joined in 1960. Ted joined a generation later. That continuity and stability at the top over multiple decades differentiates Bridges Trust from the crowded and often impersonal wealth management field.

“I’m proud of the fact we’ve continued to have a business that families can relate to, that’s been built to provide service over a very long period of time,”

Ted Bridges said. “The competitive advantage for our clients is our ability to think in terms of decades, not in terms of days or weeks or months.”

Client-driven focus

Innovation and integrity have been part of the Bridges Trust culture from the start. Founder Marvin Bridges became the first Securities and Exchange Commission registered investment adviser in Nebraska. He did this in the wake of the Great Depression when Americans’ confidence in financial markets was severely shaken.

New provisions were put in place to better regulate the industry and protect consumer investments. The changes were made, Ted Bridges said, to assure clients their assets would be well managed and protected by regulatory oversight.

“It provided a higher element of safety and security,” he said.

Bridges said the firm emphasizes professionalism “in the actual management of client assets as opposed to a sales environment trying to sell a bunch of products.

“Our culture is predicated on what clients need, which is excellence in wealth and investment management.”

Another example of the firm’s client-driven focus came when Edson L. established the first mutual fund in Nebraska in 1963. The fund, Bridges said, gave clients of modest means “the opportunity to have their assets in a welldiversified, professionally managed portfolio at a very reasonable cost.” From a hundred thousand dollars in 1963, the fund exceeds $200 million today.

“It’s a small piece of what we manage overall but I think my dad was very forward-thinking,” Bridges said. “It’s another facet of the build-to-suit

At Bridges Trust our people know you and your family. The same team that’s been providing service to you has been there and is going to be there. A key to our success has been that consistency, feeling of family, relationship, responsibility,

mentality that characterizes how we think about building solutions to meet specific client needs.”

Bridges Trust created the chartered trust in 1983.

“It allows for that consistency of investment philosophy and investment management process to be perpetuated over multiple generations,” Bridges said. “That’s been a successful strategy. Our clients really appreciate that continuity. With Bridges Trust named as a corporate trustee, beneficiaries find that we listen, we’re not adversarial, we give great service. That’s been a very positive attribute of the firm over time.”

Much of what his father instilled continues to undergird the firm.

“Excellence and deep attention to detail and always wanting to get it right. An incredibly strong work ethic,” he said. “I never heard Dad say, ‘Well, it’s pretty good, let’s move on.’ It was, ‘We are going to nail this, it’s going to be spot-on for the client.’ That developed into a phrase we use – build to suit. Everything we do is very specific to each client’s unique needs and preferences.”

In 2017 Bridges Trust partnered with the McCarthy Group to expand capabilities and secure future generations of local ownership.

“By the second decade of the new millennium, we’d grown to about $2 billion in assets under management. We’ve always reinvested back into the business to develop a broader, deeper array of services,” Bridges said.

Since closing, the firm has grown to $10 billion in assets and Bridges said its doubled client relationships from 300 to over 600. The employee count has also grown from around 20 to over 80.

As the company grows, collaboration and transparency are key.

“If people feel they have valid buy-in into what we’re doing they’re going to compete super hard to make that be a win,” Bridges said. “My leadership style is not telling people what to do, it’s building a team, playing to people’s strengths, and encouraging. In a professional services organization like ours, we’ve got really talented people with high initiative. They don’t need to be managed, they need to be set up for success.”

While the company has grown, keeping service consistent and personable remains a cornerstone of the company.

“Knowing that consistency of leading through change but staying the same in what we do and how we do it is going to be the primary driver of our success going forward, I have no doubt about it,” said CEO Nick Wilwerding. “Having that track record of the Bridges family doing it for generations gives us confidence we can carry it forward, not replaying the same script but definitely thinking about the same ingredients that led to our success.”

North Star

Jack Holmes, recently named CIO, said that a lot of the firm’s clients are individuals entering retirement, so explaining strategy is important for relieving anxiety.

“Our objective is to take the least amount of risk to accomplish those objectives, keeping sufficient liquidity so if we do go through volatility they have sufficient cash to cover that,” he said.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. What works in investing and managing money hasn’t changed, which is why Holmes said the firm tries “really keeping it simple and understandable, always falling back on the North Star of client objectives for the fund.”

“A lot of our clients-investors benefit from the simplicity of our portfolios in that way,” Holmes said. “We own high-quality businesses, we try to hold them for a long period of time and stay out of the way. That long-term time horizon is our biggest competitive advantage versus a lot of our peers that try to market time or outthink what the market’s going to do.

“Benchmarking a long-term horizon with clients is how we get past some of the day-to-day noise. We’re constantly communicating and always accessible. We’re not just responding, we’re being proactive, which I think is a big difference with what we do.”

Bridges said its smart growth approach has ensured the client remains front and center. Despite new products and technologies, the investment process remains rooted in: durability, scalability, flexibility, intuitive, rational, disciplined and repeatable.

“All those elements are essential to the great process and while we’ve got a lot more digital capability to get data, there’s no substitute for the in-depth analysis that comes through the process to ultimately make investment management decisions,” he said. “A great benefit to clients is our investment management team meets frequently in person. That aspect creates the opportunity for great communication. You can read body language, address things directly, get deep into the numbers and vet out the businesses and opportunities we are considering.”

The bottom line at Bridges Trust is client satisfaction delivered through tried and true methodologies that fulfill and exceed the fiduciary responsibility and client expectations that come with the work.

“It’s clear to us every day we are in the performance business, meaning results do matter,” Wilwerding said. “What we can control is the delivery of a very disciplined, focused process because we believe process drives performance.

“We don’t operate on hunches or gut feelings. We don’t rely on technical charts telling us how to invest money. It is very much based on an experienced process of how to manage wealth for generations. We have the benefit of the current leadership group to hang our hat on eight decades and we’re focused on carrying that forward.”

Community wealth

Holmes doesn’t take for granted the role he or the firm plays in helping secure family legacies and make communities better.

“We’re in a fortuitous position of a lot of responsibility with what we’re tasked with doing. The impact we can have on the families we serve is pretty immeasurable. It’s not just how much more money they have or how much more wealth we create, it’s how do they effectively pass it on to their kids and grandkids. Helping with that facilitation of wealth transfer is a big part of what we do,” Holmes said. “Also we’re fortunate to work with a lot of philanthropic clients who impact the community with the

wealth they have and our contribution to that.

“Roughly 20-25% of our assets are in philanthropic vehicles. We’ve made it intentional to provide philanthropic services for our clients as an evolution of trying to understand their needs. We’re fortunate to serve families that have a philanthropic interest and make a direct impact with their giving.”

Wilwerding said the firm’s expertise for growing wealth melds well with the generosity of its clients, some of whom include Omaha’s philanthropic titans.

Bridges Trust employs six CAPs (Chartered Advisors in Philanthropy) specializing in charitable trust administration, family foundation management, and oversight of trust, foundation, and endowment assets.

“Advising philanthropic charitable families in their grant-making endeavors is where we add a lot of value,” Wilwerding said. “It’s contributed to our growth. Being able to have successful outcomes for clients that lead to tremendous gifts for the benefit of bettering the community and the world is very gratifying.

Passing the baton

Wilwerding appreciates the steady navigation Ted Bridges provides and the foresight that’s gone into the executive officer transitions.

“An investment motto Ted Bridges coined is ‘think forward,’” he said. “Ted and the leadership group have done a tremendous job thinking forward on behalf of the firm and the firm’s clients, making sure the generational aspect of our firm and offering will continue. Ted being proactive in identifying the next-in-line leaders I think demonstrates the professionalism and the humility of service culture we have at Bridges. Having Ted remain with our firm as co-chair of our board is going to allow us to have this wealth of knowledge.”

It doesn’t appear a fourth-generation Bridges will work at the firm, but

Holmes said Bridges Trust’s time-tested client-centered culture won’t change while the current leadership team, all of whom own CFA charters, is in place.

“I believe it boils down to our shared dedication to excellence and our expertise,” said Holmes, whose background is in investments and analytics.

Eighty years being stewards of other people’s money, Wilwerding said, marks “a momentous milestone.”

“To continue to build upon a business that has such a sterling reputation in the community is what gets me most excited for this new role and responsibility, to continue to find ways to deliver value to clients, employees, and partners,” he said.

Building Wealth

ADDRESSING CONSUMER CHALLENGES

It’s a fact: consumers today are seeking more than just financial advice from their financial advisers. Many are looking for customized wealth management experiences to meet their unique needs and financial goals.

Tighter squeeze

High interest rates pose a major challenge in today’s economy. Historically, homes have been the primary asset for most families in the United States and have provided a route to build wealth. However, purchasing a home is not as easy as it has been in the past.

“The elevated price of housing, driven by low supply and high demand, has posed an affordability challenge for years,” said

JON GROSS

WEALTH MANAGEMENT DIVISION

HEAD – SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, UNION BANK & TRUST

David Spiess, private wealth advisor for Ludacka Wealth Partners/ Northwestern Mutual. “The elevated interest rates (and resultant borrowing costs) have only made that more challenging. While wages have outpaced inflation, they have not kept up with the rise in housing costs.”

Laura Combs, executive managing director for Mercer Advisors has seen similar issues.

“Higher interest rates have put pressure on consumers’ ability to save,” she said. “Higher interest rates also mean many first-time homebuyers aren’t in a position to purchase their next home – their mortgage payments on a larger home would be out of reach, even with a sizable downpayment from equity in their first home.”

Katie Bruno, financial advisor for Morey & Quinn Wealth Partners

said she’s seen more and more income restraints for consumers. This has played a significant role in how they can effectively plan and save for the future.

“Many cost-of-living adjustments offered by employers have not kept up with inflation,” she explained. “This means the cost of goods has increased more quickly than someone’s income has increased. This leads to less disposable income to save and invest.”

Jon Gross, wealth management division head – senior vice president at Union Bank and Trust, has a bit of a different outlook. He noted the primary challenges to building wealth are often due to old behavioral culprits such as lack of budgeting, low prioritization of savings, and misaligned consumer spending. He views the current economic environment as favorable to building wealth.

“Unemployment remains very low, and wages have generally increased at a decent clip the past few years, somewhat mitigating the pop in inflation we experienced coming out of the pandemic,” he said. “With financial markets at all-time highs and fixed-income investors receiving decent interest payments on their lower-risk investments, the ‘wealth effect’ is decently pronounced and people have not been shy about spending money, which has helped keep

the economy growing.

“I also believe there is a growing realization that a sound financial and investment plan has a place in most people’s lives, regardless of income level. The strategies used and the goals may differ, but the need for a long term, well-thought-out plan is fairly universal, and firms continue to broaden their product offering to meet the needs of such a diverse audience.”

Retiring in Nebraska

While the national retirement age of 65 is still very common across Nebraska, wealth advisers are seeing more folks starting to retire later or slowly easing their way into retirement.

““This means different things for different people. For some, it’s part-time work and spending a few days a week watching grandbabies or volunteering,” Bruno explained. “For others, it’s a total retirement from their current career to pick up a new job that is less stressful and can still meet their income needs. No matter what fulfills someone, it’s important to see it as a new phase of life that can last for decades.”

Spiess said that part of the reason for later retirement could be because Social Security benefits have been pushed out with full retirement moving from 65 to 67 years old.

Gross stated that while it’s not specific to Nebraska per se, he has seen a widespread rethinking of what retirement means.

“People are living longer and are generally healthier and more active than prior generations have been at retirement age, and, for those reasons and others, many are at least delaying the step into full-fledged retirement,” he said. “If they are effective and enjoy what they are doing, the path of least resistance seems to be to perhaps dial back the time on the job but not give it up completely.”

Combs said that retirement for Nebraskans is shaped by several key factors such as retirement age, cost of living and health care needs.

“Generally, those retiring earlier may face longer periods of financial uncertainty, requiring more conservative spending and robust savings,” she said. “Conversely, those retiring later might have more financial security due to extended income streams and higher Social Security benefits. Retirees in Nebraska can benefit from a relatively low cost of living, especially in housing and health care, which can make their savings last longer.”

Advice that lasts

It takes a concerted effort to make a retirement plan that allows you to reach the goals you have in mind – and that starts earlier than you might think.

“Start early. I cannot overstate the power of compounding,” Spiess said. “Einstein said ‘Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it. He who doesn’t, pays it.’ If you save 20% of what you make now, it will help you feel more

comfortable in the long term. Speaking generally, I always encourage people to start saving earlier, take advantage of an employer’s matching program when you can and create a plan to add a bit to your retirement savings each month to help boost the total.”

Bruno believes that staying educated and being a continuous learner is also a big component of building long-term wealth.

Reason #1 to choose UBT:

“Financial wellness is about managing money effectively,” she said. “It’s part of someone’s overall health. It’s been proven that money is one of the biggest stressors … Retirement plans have a lot of moving parts that should be monitored on an ongoing basis.”

Gross noted that sometimes people underestimate the sense of peace and well-being that comes from having a detailed financial

plan that helps them accomplish their life goals.

“The stress that comes from financial matters like carrying too much debt or not having an emergency fund in place is just as damaging as other life stressors and exacts the same toll on one’s health and well-being,” he stated. “A financial safety net and sound financial plan helps navigate trying times with a greater sense of calm while also freeing up mental space to focus on the things that you truly enjoy in life.”

TOP WEALTH MANAGEMENT TOOLS

We asked wealth management professionals what their favorite AI tool or app for managing finances are.

Katie Bruno:

For financial planning, one tool I use is Holistiplans, which allows me to upload a client’s tax return and then create a tax report complete with relevant observations. For clients, I think Mint and YNAB (you need a budget) are great apps that integrate AI to track spending and manage a budget. Both apps can provide insights that can help someone be more proactive with spending rather than reactive. I also like Credit Karma if someone is focused on managing their debt. Credit Karma uses AI to monitor your credit score and provide recommendations for improving your score.

David Spiess:

AI and GenAI, in the form we have now, is still very new in how it can be used. I look back to the advent of the internet and this seems like a similar inflection point. That said, there are some helpful tech-enabled resources for finances, including Mint and Intuit, which both have a very useful budgeting feature. Additionally, the Northwestern Mutual website has great resources to learn more about various financial topics, such as budgeting and different types of insurance.

Laura Combs:

Monarch Money is a great cash flow tracking tool along with Rocket Money (both have a cost). Every dollar is a free app that is great for paying off debt.

Jon Gross:

As a firm we are currently exploring a number of tools in the AI space and how we might utilize them in our various business lines. The introduction of generative AI solutions within financial management offers exciting possibilities, but I feel at the end of the day the most potential lies in augmenting rather than replacing the human touch experience that most investors prefer.

FROM LEFT, JUDITH AND AIRES REIS, OWNERS OF REIS’ BAKERY.

Reis’ Bakery A YEAR OF GROWTH AND CREATION

Growing up in a predominately Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, Aires Reis was surrounded by pastry shops. However, he was not a fan of the sweet products that these bakeries sold.

From spending time serving overseas in the military, Reis was inspired by how European breads and pastries could be extremely rich in flavor, yet not full of sugar.

That’s why when he began baking over a decade ago, he set out to use techniques that he observed overseas for creating rich flavors, such as using quality ingredients and adequate preparation time.

“It’s not so much about the sweetness or how much sugar you’re putting in, but by the actual flavor and ingredients that you put in the pastries,” Reis said.

Reis and his wife, Judith Reis, moved to Omaha a couple of years ago to be closer to family. After getting settled, Aires began experimenting full-time with baking in their home kitchen.

With the help of their eldest daughter, the two set up a Facebook page

where Aires began selling his baked goods. The popularity of the cottage bakery led Aires and Judith to look for a commercial space.

“Surprisingly it just took off. It had a life of its own,” he said. “Because the demand was so great, we could think about a brick-and-mortar shop.”

Attention to details

One of the things that Reis discovered early on in his learning process was that he had to stick to the country of origin when sourcing ingredients. He said that using American flour to make a French baguette didn’t yield the same result due to the differences and nuances of the ingredients.

Therefore, Reis’ Bakery uses French butter and flour in its creations to achieve the desired outcome.

“His goal is to make it as authentic as possible,” Judith Reis said. “And he’s been able to achieve that. But it takes a lot. It’s a science. He’s taught me it’s a science. It’s unbelievable.”

His goal is to make it as authentic as possible. And he’s been able to achieve that. But it takes a lot. It’s a science. He’s taught me it’s a science. It’s unbelievable.
- JUDITH REIS, CO-OWNER OF

Not only do the high-quality ingredients contribute to the uniqueness of the products at Reis’ Bakery, but so does the level of effort put into making the breads and pastries.

Six days a week, the couple is at the bakery around 3 a.m. and is working nonstop until the shop closes at 3:30 p.m. Everything is made by hand — nothing, including any jams or fillings, comes from a jar.

“Somebody will come in and say, ‘your bread smells like what bread smells like in Europe,’” Aires Reis said. “Or ‘what my grandmother used to make in Europe when I was a child’ … It keeps me going. It’s great to hear and know that people appreciate what you’re doing and the level of effort.”

The dedicated staff at Reis’ Bakery have also been an integral part in making the business what it is today.

“We’re just blessed that we have the staff that we have,” Judith Reis said. “People are having a really hard time with staffing and especially in the restaurant business, and we’ve been blessed. We’ve got some amazing, amazing, very dedicated, hardworking people.”

A family environment

Despite the long workdays, they describe the work environment at the bakery as a “family environment,” with the staff oftentimes playing music, dancing, and joking while working.

“If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, if you’re not having a good time, you should kind of be looking for something else,” Aires Reis said. “We thoroughly enjoy it, probably a little too much sometimes.”

Along with the staff, the community has also helped to support Reis’ Bakery through its first year of business. Judith Reis said that connecting with the customers has been one of her favorite parts of having the bakery.

“We are always thankful for our customers,” Judith said. “I don’t think they really recognize how they’ve encouraged us, so we just want to thank the community for passing the word and for encouraging us.”

Century-long partnership

UNL BREAKS GROUND ON PRECISION AG CENTER

At first glance, the groundbreaking of the National Center for Resilient and Regenerative Precision Agriculture at the Nebraska Innovation Campus is a catalyst for unprecedented innovation in the State of Nebraska. However, what many may not know is that the center is the result of a partnership that developed its roots back when Abraham Lincoln was president.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture was formed in 1862. That same year, the Morrill Land-Grant Act was enacted, providing federal funding to establish state colleges. The University of Nebraska was later established in 1869. As the university expanded over the next few decades, so did its relationship with the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS).

“Our partnership with the USDA goes back about 120 years, give or take,” said Mike Boehm, UNL’s vice chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. “We have always had USDA research scientists on the university’s property and it’s a really robust partnership. But the idea here was

that the federal government would invest funding and build a bigger platform.”

Adding a physical presence

Fast forward to a century later, talks of adding a more permanent presence for the USDA began in 2008 when the Nebraska State Fair grounds were moved from Lincoln to Grand Island. The grounds left by the Fair were repurposed into what is now the Nebraska Innovation Campus. Boehm said talks began to build a federal facility that would be staffed by the USDA on that campus. In 2020, plans were set in motion.

Congress then appropriated funds to begin the planning phase for the new National Center of Excellence.

“The new National Center was re-envisioned to focus on resilient and regenerative precision agriculture,” he said. “Three years since then, Congress has continued to appropriate federal dollars to create this new National Center of Excellence.”

Our partnership with the USDA goes back about 120 years.

He added that over 90 locations across the country were considered for the facility and Lincoln was the final choice.

What is precision ag?

If you’re wondering what terms like resilient, regenerative and precision agriculture mean, Boehm said to first consider how the world population continues to grow and how climate change is leading to more intense weather extremes. With water insecurity already a problem, what could the future hold?

“The focus here is, how do we ensure water security leads to food security? Which really leads to people having the basic essentials and then being able to hopefully live peacefully together,” he said.

With the future in mind, resilience refers to how far resources like water and soil are being pushed. Regenerative focuses on how resources like water can be revived and cleaner than it was before. He added that precision agriculture, while nothing new, is treating or watering only the areas of the crop that need it.

Boehm said taking a close look at how agriculture, such as crops, livestock

-

and poultry, is produced is where the university’s partnership with the USDA comes in.

“This what we focus on at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, but that’s also what our colleagues in the USDA that are positioned here in Nebraska also think about,” he said.

With the advent of big data and artificial intelligence, Boehm said agriculture is better equipped to be more resilient on both small and large scales.

“This national center provides a national platform of excellence that allows us to bring all of that study and ultimately translate that into actions and approaches that our farmers and ranchers, our food processors, our biofuels manufacturers, our advanced biomaterials folks, can use,” he said.

Construction on the facility began on May 6 this year. The $160 million laboratory will include 10,000 square feet of greenhouses and 10,000 square feet of headhouse space, the work center for the greenhouse. The ARS team will reportedly perform research on plants such as wheat, barley, sorghum, forage and bioenergy grasses respond to emerging pests and pathogens.

Corporate Philanthropy

A GUIDE FOR COMPANY LEADERS AND FINANCIAL ADVISORS

Financial professionals know that charitable giving can be an important part of an individual’s or family’s financial and estate plans. But it is also important to remember that charitable giving often plays a role in their professional lives as well. Many company executives want their company and employees to lean into charitable giving. That’s why it’s wise for you to be aware of the best practices in corporate giving — and the ways the Omaha Community Foundation can help!

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) at the Omaha Community Foundation is an easy tool for companies of any size to use for their charitable giving. The fund helps corporate leaders organize the company’s giving in a convenient, 501(c)(3)-qualified structure, avoiding the time and expense required to establish and maintain a separate charitable entity. Many companies appreciate OCF’s infrastructure, reporting practices, and compliance protocols to ensure that all tax laws and other IRS requirements are met.

The company can contribute to the corporate DAF each year, then organize donations to a single or wide range of nonprofits through a single source of funds. OCF can work with company leaders to develop a strategic giving plan that supports the company’s goals and culture. OCF can also help facilitate employee matching gift programs.

Companies can work with the Omaha Community Foundation to offer

DAFs to their employees as an added benefit. The employees can fund their DAFs using a wide range of assets, including stock received as a company stock gift. Companies can also donate to an employee’s DAF as part of a corporate giving match program. Your employees will have access to all of the Omaha Community Foundation’s services and tools, including a dedicated account advisor with a deep knowledge of the community’s needs and the organizations working to address them. Plus, our online giving portal makes it easy to give with a few simple clicks.

Another popular corporate giving tool is a company supported giving circle. Giving circles foster a sense of community and camaraderie among colleagues by pooling resources for charitable causes. They empower employees to collectively make a meaningful impact on issues they care about, promoting a sense of ownership and engagement within the organization. Additionally, participating in giving circles enhances corporate social responsibility efforts, demonstrating a commitment to philanthropy and social causes. REVOLUTION GROUP, LLC A HOLISTIC

APPROACH TO WEALTH MANAGEMENT

Ryan Fleischer comes from a long line of entrepreneurs. Growing up, he had a strong admiration for his father and grandfather, who he described as pioneers in developing current tillage practices.

From watching his family members embark on business ventures of their own, Fleischer became naturally drawn to entrepreneurship from a young age. His first endeavor was at the age of 6, when he went door to door selling sweet corn out of his wagon.

This passion for owning a business led Fleischer to found Revolution Group, LLC.

“Entrepreneur spirit pretty much runs deep, and then also just wanting to find value and create something that is different and unique,” Fleischer said.

Revolution Group is a custom wealth management group that brings family office style services to its clients by offering individualized planning and portfolio construction.

Rather than encouraging clients to take big risks to try and achieve a greater rate of return, Fleischer adopts the family office style of working with clients to preserve wealth generationally and grow at least with a modest rate of return.

Bringing about change

Before starting Revolution Group, Fleischer worked at a large family office where he learned firsthand what is accessible to people and how to create purposeful assets that achieve something within a person’s portfolio. He said that he adopted these same practices when starting the group.

“We don’t fit our clients into a model,” Fleischer said. “Every one of our clients gets their own adaptation of their own policy

and governance around their purpose, around their needs and around their goal.”

Fleischer said he wanted to focus on a holistic approach that incorporated private assets, ranging from real estate to collectible cars and wines, into portfolios.

“The biggest challenges would be the fact that we’re doing something so different,” Fleisher said. “Trying to get people to understand that this isn’t a transaction-based business, to understand that all their assets should be working together.”

Building friendships through Entrepreneurs Organization Nebraska has provided a sounding board for those challenges. He said being able to talk through those challenges provides a sense of “there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

“Just having that vulnerability … to say ‘hey, here’s some of the things that I’m struggling with,’ and to know there’s other people that maybe have gone through those same business struggles,” he said.

Despite the challenges that may arise from trying out a new approach, Fleischer said that his main concern is on clients’ results.

“Our focus is 100% to be the best,” Fleischer said. “Not the biggest wealth management firm, but to be the best wealth management firm that we can possibly be.”

The following are some guidelines to consider when posting legal notices with the Midlands Business Journal:

1. Submit a written notice in either Microsoft Word or as a PDF document either through mbj.com or through the Legal Department at legals@ mbj.com. For trade names, submit a copy of approved (bar code in upper right hand corner) Application For Registration of Trade Name from the Secretary of State to the same email address.

Please include your billing address and the desired duration you’d like your notice to run (trade names run for only one week). As a publisher and not a legal advisor we print notices exactly as they are submitted and therefor only comp reruns when the notice was rejected or messed up due to a MBJ error.

All companies submitting notices are responsible for ensuring the content fits with the State’s requirements and are responsible for the cost of republishing the notice if it is rejected due to misinformation or missing information

2. You will receive a confirmation and price quote. Legal notices, except for trade names, are charged per line. The flat fee for a trade name is $50. Payment is now credit or debit card.

3. Deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday for a notice to start publishing that Friday.

4. All costs include fees to file the notice with the Secretary of State and/or any appropriate courts.

5. Invoices must be paid prior to publication.
