According to Table 1004.1.2, exhibition spaces fall under Assembly without fixed seats > Unconcentrated = 15 net sqft floor area per occupant. However, 15 sqft per occupant is intended for restaurants and event spaces and is not appropriate for museum/gallery exhibition spaces. According to the AIA, 50 sq ft per occupant is a more appropriate occupant load for exhibition spaces. According to 1004.1.4 Modifications: "Where the actual number of occupants of any space will be significantly lower than listed in Table 1004.1.2, the commissioner may establish a lower basis for the determination of the number of occupants." Based on this provision. we would seek an exception of 50 sq ft per occupant for all exhibition spaces and use 15 sq ft per occupant only for the auditorium where special events would be held. Our egress calculations are based on this assumption.

GENERAL STRUCTURAL NOTES 1. The structure consists primarily of square steel tubes (HSS), which provide the desired aesthetic when exposed and are lighter than equivalently strong wide flange shapes. 2. Open web steel joists are used in the mezzanine to achieve wide spans over the auditorium. 3. The structure follows the geometry of the building with HSS girders forming the primary triangulation. These triangles are subdivided with HSS beams for bracing and reducing spans. 4. HSS members are ASTM A 500 Grade B, 46 ksi yield strength 5. Steel members are fireproofed with black intumescent paint.
