That is why we deliver an extensive range of full and part time courses as well as apprenticeships and higher education programmes. We have delivered Access to HE programmes for over 25 years and have an excellent record of accomplishment for equipping students for university. We offer Access to HE diplomas in almost every subject sector area from Construction to Health so we have a breadth of programmes to support your future students. We recently added the option to study our health pathway online to further education.

Meet the Team Our Access to HE in Health team are experts in their field and have a wealth of experience to help you get to where you want to be. Ian Evans is a Course Leader & Academic Tutor and has worked for a number of years on Access to HE diplomas, supporting mature students returning to education. His specialist subjects include Mathematics, e-Learning, teaching, and learning. Ian really enjoys giving mature students a second chance at education and finds it really rewarding to develop their confidence throughout the year. He uses a range of technologies to support his students meaning they can easily contact him for support at a time that suits them. His enthusiasm for widening participation through technology has helped to lead the development of the College’s online Access to Health course.

James Wells is the Head of Digital Curriculum at Middlesbrough College and has worked in the EdTech industry for over a decade. With an academic background

Catherine Fortune is a Personal Tutor & an Academic Tutor and has been a very successful Access to H.E. (Health) tutor for a number of years. She has written a number of units for the Awarding Body including the latest response to the changing health environment, a unit centred on Digitally Enabled Care. She was part of a team that revolutionised the delivery of Access on the fast track evening programme and contributed to the introduction of a blended approach with classroom and online learning. As an experienced Access tutor Cath is very conscious of the barriers that mature students with a talent for care can face when looking to change both their and their families’ lives, and is excited at the possibilities and opportunities Middlesbrough College’s groundbreaking Distance Learning Access to H.E. (Health) offers. ​

Angela Ferguson is an Academic Tutor and has a wealth of experience in the education sector. She began her career teaching science in secondary school and progressed on to further education where she found her passion for supporting and developing the skills of her students. Angela has been a member of the Access team for a couple of years now and specialises in biology and diseases of the human body at level three. She enjoys developing resources that help to engage students to fulfil their potential on the e-Learning programme and go on to great careers.

FAQs Q: How will students learn the content?

Q: Is the course fully online? A: Yes, our course is a 100% distance-learning programme. Support is offered over the phone as well as through emails, Facebook and Skype. Q: What qualification will students gain by the end of the course?

A: Our programme has been designed from the ground up to include bespoke learning materials. Delivered inside Canvas, we use videos, animations and quizzes built to engage and assess learners effectively online. Q: What are the entry requirements?

A: Although we have no formal qualification A: The course leads to a fully QAA validated requirements, students will be expected to Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health. demonstrate that they are working at level 2 in Maths and English on entry. Q: What facilities do students have access to? A: As a Middlesbrough College student, they will have access to our extensive range of eBooks and Journals.
