Our students are at the heart of our community and during these strange and uncertain times we are doing everything we can to support and help students achieve their dreams whilst ensuring the safety of everyone. We will be therefore following government guidance regarding mass gatherings and as such our events will be in different formats across the year. This will include:

Covid-secure guidelines for safe study in the classroom The wellbeing of our College community is our number one priority, which is why we’ve implemented a range of measures following the Coronavirus pandemic. We are confident that by working together we can provide a safe ‘socially distanced’ environment for you when you come to our campus.

• 2m social distancing will be in place in key shared spaces of the College.

• 1m spacing will be in place in classrooms/

workshops and students will remain in the same bubble all day with limited movement.

• Hand santiser is available throughout the building.

• We expect everybody to wear a face covering

Cameron, Jerome & Jon Cameron Hawkes, Jerome Stephenson and Jon Young from MC Digital have been piloting the brand new T Level qualifications and have all been offered apprenticeships after impressing their employers. Jerome and Jon, who are both studying Level 3 IT have been completing work-based placements with Ovo Studio, a Digital Marketing Agency based in Skelton and have now both been offered Level 4 apprenticeships, specialising in Digital Marketing.

Taking you to your dream course

Vocational Courses Apprenticeships A Levels A Levels allow you to keep your options open with focused study of three or four subjects across two years. A Levels are a good option if you are looking to progress to University.

T Levels!

T Levels are a brand new qualification which are an alternative to A Levels. This 2-year qualification will help you to build the future that you want.

Apprenticeships allow you to earn whilst you learn! You will come to College alongside your job. An apprenticeship is a great choice if you are eager to earn money straight away and build your skills alongside experienced staff.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% of your time in the workplace, putting the skills you’ve learnt into action. Every T Level student will take an industry placement that lasts at least 45 days, helping you to gain valuable experience in

Our courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that they meet the needs of industry and prepare you for work. Levels Guide Entry Level: These courses will help you build up skills, experience and gain confidence to progress to Level 1. No formal qualifications are needed.

Level 1: These courses will help you progress on to Level 2 courses or into employment. These courses will prepare you with the skills in a specific trade/career. Level 2: These courses allow you to begin specialising in an area you want to pursue as a career. Level 3: These include A Levels, vocational qualifications (including Extended Diplomas, Diplomas, Certificates), T Levels and apprenticeships. A triple distinction star grade (D*D*D*) on a Level 3 vocational course is equivalent to three A* grades at A Level. You must have achieved an appropriate Level 2 vocational qualification and/or five GCSEs at grade 4/5 (C) or above. Please see the entry requirements for the course you are interested in studying as each course has specific requirements. Please note for some courses you will be required to start at Level 1 to gain the technical skills required.

Investing £12 million to create fantastic new facilities! New digital centre

Construction

We have plans to create a new multi-million pound digital skills centre that will open doors to jobs in one of the world’s fastest growing sectors.

Our plans also include the creation of a construction skills workshop where learners will get hands-on experience with tools and systems they’d expect to find in the workplace.

We are proposing to build a three storey learning centre. This complements the £3m Institute of Technology development which is already starting onsite. You will benefit from specialist IT and computing equipment worth more than £500,000.

The new workshop is specifically designed to accommodate classes for the T Level heating and ventilation pathways – a significant part of the construction industry.

MC6 The new digital centre will be located adjacent to our sixth form building - MC6. MC6 will be expanded to create new outside seating and social space, as well as a newly adapted café space.

Taking the lead on technical training We are thrilled to announce that we have been chosen by the Department for Education to be a partner college in the North East Institute of Technology! Led by New College Durham, Middlesbrough College will be the sole deliverer of IoT accredited courses in the Tees Valley. Having the prestigious Institute of Technology status gives the promise to our students and employers that we will deliver high-quality technical qualifications and bespoke training to provide a route for people of all ages and existing employees to gain industry specific skills. As one of the leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education, we deliver a range of IoT accredited programmes. These top quality technical training courses provide employers with a skilled workforce and students with a clear route to technical employment. Look out for the IOT badge in our course section!

Our Student Union was setup to make sure you have the best experience possible at College! The Student Voice and Student Union Executive Team lead it. You will be taught onsite at our Middlehaven Campus by experienced professionals. Megan Bowers Jay Howarth Jay studied Level 3 Information Technology at Middlesbrough College and has now graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in BSc (Hons) Computer Science and has secured his dream job as a Software Engineer.

Since completing her Level 3 Aviation Operations programme last year, Megan has now landed her dream job as a Ramp Services Agent for Swissport at Teesside Airport.

Qasim studied A Levels at Middlesbrough College Sixth Form and progressed to study a degree in Film & Television Production. Now Qasim works within the TV industry at various production offices in TV Dramas. These include The Split (BBC), Back to life (BBC), Tales from the lodge staring Jonny Vegas and The Vanishing starring Gerard Butler.

Taking A Level students higher A Levels are academic courses and Universities and employers love them! A Levels are a good option if you are academic and you want to progress to University. They allow you to keep your options open and study a range of degree programmes or progress straight into employment! We also offer a range of applied courses. These are vocationally orientated qualifications and are generally assessed through a mix of coursework and external examinations. These courses are ideal if you enjoy learning in a practical and work-related way.

Raising aspirations We want you to reach your full potential, so that’s why we created our raising aspirations programme!

This programme is for academically gifted students to prepare you to study at leading Universities. Our specialist coaches and teachers offer activities, events and support throughout your time at MC6 to provide you with the best possible preparation for University! Last year our activities included Medical Mavericks HandsOn Workshop, Social Mobility Foundation Work Placements, Nuffield Research Placements, Crown Prosecution Service Workshops, Oxbridge visits, University open events and UCAS talks. You will study 4 units on this course across your 2 years of study. These include civil dispute solving, looking at the civil courts and how they work, including the people in the courts and the role of Barristers, Solicitors and Judges. The introduction to criminal courts and criminal liability, looking at the role and function of criminal courts and the people who work in those courts including Magistrates, Juries, Barristers, Solicitors and Judges. Applying the law, looking at the law of murder and manslaughter and some property offences such as theft, robbery, burglary, criminal damage and fraud. It also includes aspects of tort, looking at the law of negligence. Â Entry requirements

Applied Psychology allows you to explore a fascinating insight into the science of human behaviour. After studying the foundations of psychology and research methods, you will investigate a variety of behaviours including gender, aggression, business psychology, health psychology and forensic psychology. This course also allows you to conduct your own psychological investigation, preparing you well for future studies. Assessment is through a mix of external examinations and internally assessed assignments. Entry requirements

Each year of study includes units that are either exam or coursework based.This course is suitable for anyone who wants to explore the Health, Social or Childcare sector or has a desire to work in these areas. This course provides you with the knowledge of children from birth to 5 years and the practical experience of working with children in this age range. You will be introduced to the role of the early year’s practitioner, legislation, framework and professional practice, play, development and learning for school readiness, professional development partnerships, additional needs and safeguarding and play. You are also required to complete 2 days per week placement and 3 days college work per week. Students must achieve all criteria to pass the course. Entry requirements

This course will provide you with knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people, from 5 years upwards. You will study planning, delivery, assessment, additional needs, bilingual support, personal development and reflective practice. You will undertake a 2-day placement each week in primary, secondary schools, special needs school or colleges and complete a minimum of 200 hours over the year. Entry requirements

You will complete a work placement to make sure you apply classroom learning in a real work environment and gain first-hand knowledge in a child’s development! Our dedicated Placement Coordinator works with nurseries, schools, crèches, playgroups and family centres in the local area to support students when looking for an employer to work with.

Football Development Programme Level 2 & Level 3 Are you interested in a career in football as a professional player, coach, referee, strength and conditions coach, analyst, nutritionist, psychologist or physiotherapist? We have the course for you!

We are now offering a brand new full-time Football Development Programme, aimed at offering many pathways into a career in football. You will have the opportunity to work with UEFA A Licence coaches within an academy environment to develop your skills whilst representing the College within the Football Academy. You will have opportunities to gain your FA Level 1 in football coaching, with options to progress down the coaching pathway, whilst completing work experience within different clubs and companies as part of the course. The direct links to clubs will create options to speak to professionals already in the field to further enhance your development. The course is tailored to demonstrate and provide the skills necessary to become a football coach, analyst, nutritionist and sports therapist. All units (football coaching, anatomy and physiology in football, performance analysis) will be specific to meet the needs of football, so you will gain an understanding of what it takes to work in the industry. Alternatively, if you check us out online www.mbro.ac.uk we have online application forms available for you to complete. Remember to get your application in to us as soon as possible as places are offered on a first come, first served basis and many courses fill up fast! Step 2: Interview Following your application, you’ll be contacted by our Admissions Team who will help you set up your College Account which will enable you to book on to a socially distanced interview here at the College. This is nothing to worry about, it is a good chance to visit the College and meet your prospective tutors. It allows us to get to know what your career goals are and helps us work out if your chosen course is right for you. Through your College Account you can access further events and information on how to enrol at the College in August 2021.

Step 3: Offer You will then be offered a place on your course. This will either be on completion of your interview or by letter. If you change your mind about your chosen course midway through the year just contact us and we will be able to get you onto your preferred course! Step 4: Enrolment Once you have received your GCSE results, you will be able to officially enrol onto a course in late August ready to start your studies in September. Can’t decide on a course?
