Financing your studies If you are worried about the cost of Higher Education, it might help to know there are a range of financial support schemes available to help you. Our friendly Student Services Department can offer you advice and guidance on any available loans or bursary options. Tuition Fee Loans

Full and part-time students studying a qualification worth at least 30 credits can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan available through the Student Loans Company. You don’t have to begin making repayments on your Tuition Fee Loan until you’re earning over £25,000. Taking out a loan might seem nerve-wracking, but your Student Loan won’t affect your credit rating and it won’t prevent you from getting loans in the future.

Maintenance Loans

As well as the Tuition Fee Loan, if you are a full-time UK student you can also apply for a Maintenance Loan from the UK government to help with expenses such as accommodation, food and bills.

Employer Sponsorship

Employers may be able to pay part or all of your fees up front if you ask them. If your study relates to your job then you will get to study a qualification that will improve your work performance and advance your career, plus your employer will benefit from a better qualified, more productive and motivated employee!

22

Grants for Disabled Students

If you have a disability or learning difficulty, you may be eligible to receive a Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) to help pay for any equipment or support you need. For more information visit www.gov.uk/studentfinance and search for DSA.

A little extra from Middlesbrough College - Bursary Scheme If you are studying a 3-year full degree programme you will be eligible for a bursary scheme of £1000. You will receive £500 in your first year and £500 in your second year of study. This is not means-tested and is split into yearly instalments across the duration of the course. This can be used as you wish but can help you to purchase course books, equipment, travel and accommodation.
